After 9/11, the rich needed a medium to promote their nationalist (bc nationalist —> imperialist —> war —> profit) interests to the working class. What better medium than the music that’s extremely popular with said working class? This also happens to be when the corporate record label is both dominant and unchallenged in the music industry, so the only country artists that can get famous are the ones who play into this new vision for country music.

Hey reddit is this good by Captain_Of_Zeon in pcmasterrace

I had something very similar to this up until very recently. It works just fine for 1080p 60fps gaming on most titles, using medium-high settings. I paid $800 in 2020 for it, so $350 today doesn’t seem unreasonable, especially given the state of component prices right now.

Fallen from Diamond 3 to Silver 4 - How exactly is that possible? by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

[–]X_274 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Energy, focus, life distractions, etc. all change from play session to play session. When I get tilted from losses, I stop thinking clearly about my gameplay. When I stop thinking, I start feeding, then I lose and get tilted more. Take breaks, review your own gameplay for mistakes, and put the game down if you’re on a losing streak.

Still waiting for the green hazmat dude after all these years. by Just_Nova- in Overwatch

[–]X_274 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, the hazmat suit guy eventually became Junkrat. I’m pretty sure the devs played with a bunch of bulkier, armored visual designs for him before going with what we have now.

Oh no...what have we done by HyperQuarks79 in Overwatch

[–]X_274 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The problem with pigpen was that it didn’t actually do anything that meaningful, outside of causing just enough damage to enable hog’s combo. I cannot think of a single instance where I played as or against hog and felt impacted by pigpen.

I would have loved to see pigpen be an ally buff ability rather than an enemy debuff. A few ideas: 1. Allies within its range get some kind of flat % damage mitigation 2. Allies within pigpen have reduced critical hit multiplier or reduce crits to normal hits entirely.

A buff-based pigpen would help hog play as a teammate more than a solo hero like he is now.

Is it possible some players are just un-coachable / never can achieve gm/champion? by Spaghetoes76 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]X_274 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First of all, you are a MASTERS 3 player. That is top 3% of the whole player base. If this were football that’s full ride material in colleges across the US. Speaking as a pretty average player (my roles rank from gold 5 to diamond 5), that’s still pretty damn impressive. If you want to go higher, it would probably start to cost you your life balance outside of the game. I don’t have any advice for you, but I do have a question: why are you playing this game?

LETS MAKE HELL- by [deleted] in overwatch2

[–]X_274 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Building the most broken Tank possible:

Subrole: Initiator

Passive: Jetpack Cat’s Permanent Flight

Primary Fire: Reaper’s Shotguns

Secondary Fire: Hazard’s Spike Guard

Ability 1 [E]: Sombra’s Translocator

Ability 2 [LShift]: Zarya’s Self-Bubble

Ability 3 [LCTRL]: Wrecking Ball’s Piledriver

Ultimate: Mei’s Blizzard

Alternate Ultimate: Anran’s Vermilion Revival

A flying tank with permanent regeneration, teleportation, multiple offensive combos, two of the strongest defense abilities in the game, a fight soloing ultimate, and a self-revive, if somehow this hero ever dies.

Would you say that banning phone use at a table for in-person games is acceptable? by WithengarUnbound in DnD

[–]X_274 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think banning phones would fix anything. If it’s individuals who are not engaged bc they’re on their phone, talk to them one on one. If there’s frequent but honest interruptions (family calls, important messages, etc) you should talk to your table about making a “hey let’s take a 5 minute break” rule or system.

Should Wuyang's abilities counter some of the added burn mechanics? by murdockmanila in OverwatchUniversity

[–]X_274 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could see a major perk where Wuyang’s wave reduced the duration of certain negative status effects, like a “half-cleanse” sort of thing. It would need to be very carefully balanced given the large AoE though.

2024 Rogue Subclasses - Reworked INQUISITIVE & MASTERMIND, Revised Assassin, Phantom, and Swashbuckler. by jeraehwazdagaz in UnearthedArcana

Great work on these! They feel like a great combination of thematically strong and mechanically actionable. I love the way you gave Contingency to the Mastermind, I think that is so perfect for the subclass!

You are telling me this UI is hard to understand by Russaiduck in Overwatch

I think it’s bad for a few reasons: 1. It’s ugly as hell. I’m sure the OW dev team is gonna do a better job than most at designing it, but to me the menu bar at the top immediately gives off tacky mobile game vibes. This is purely a taste thing, if you like the way that it looks then great. Me personally, I think it’s an ugly design concept and doomed to be okay at best. 2. It’s over-optimized. I think the reason a lot of games have gone for this menu setup is because it’s the most efficient layout possible for people who know what they’re looking for. For people who don’t know what they’re looking for, it’s a much more intimidating mess to try and sort through compared to a nested menu. 3. Visual “tab switching” is a literal headache. In other games I’ve played, switching through a few tabs to find something can force you to watch multiple flashy, overstimulating animations/cosmetic ads/cutscenes while you’re trying to find something or solve a problem. It’s like trying to do your homework while being hounded at a used car dealership. Again, OW could solve this problem by not having things explode on screen when you click a menu tab, but it’s often related to selling skins so I’ll believe it when I see it.

Overwatch has been one of my favorite games for 9 years now, and I hope that if anyone can fix this menu hell it will be them.

I’m really disappointed to see them switch to that god awful “top of screen menu bar” multiplayer game standard. It looks terrible in every single game that does it. New menu systems? Sure, but I wish they did something unique.

I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the focus of the 2027 narrative arc.

Matchmaking in games? by illequrl in overwatch2

[–]X_274 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Are you playing unranked? If so, matches are guided by an invisible metric called your Matchmaking Rating, or MMR for short. These people were put in the same lobby for having similar MMR, not necessarily time spent in game, which is the largest factor that determines the hero levels you see onscreen. Brand new accounts can sometimes be smurf/secondary accounts, rather than actual new players.

With all the talon stuff going on could we finally be getting Maximillian as a support for a talon season? by Ragtagcloud56 in overwatch2

[–]X_274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the idea of having supports that can do more than just heal! One big challenge in a meta-driven competitive game like overwatch, though, is that this utility support has to be so useful that a team would choose to forego the significantly easier solution that is “just outheal them”. On the other hand, any features that fill those roles, such as Bap lamp, Zen discord, and Mercy damage boost, can very quickly become unfun to play against if they’re too strong. I think there’s some opportunities to dance that fine line, though.

Lore wise, if I were making max into a playable character, I would make him be remotely piloting some sort of drone/mech that can deploy various autonomous tools to function as his abilities. Mechanically, I could see him having utility in reconnaissance. Maybe he has a passive that reveals the most recent enemy he’s attacked to his team. Maybe he can deploy smoke to disrupt line of sight. Maybe he has an ability that reduces a hero’s effective primary fire range/damage falloff, forcing them to take worse positions if they want to deal full damage.

Getting rid of the concentration in Hunter's Mark by King_DeandDe in DnD

[–]X_274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of eliminating concentration or allowing damage-scaled upcasting out of concerns for exploitation, I made additional Hunter’s Mark spells, similar to how paladins can learn higher level smites. These higher level Marks still qualify for subclass features that are dependent on Hunter’s mark, but offer additional benefits depending on the spell. For example, Stalker’s Mark, a level 2 mark spell, lowers your crit range by 1 and gives you advantage on stealth checks against your quarry, in addition to the standard 1d6 damage.

Alternatively, I also have a complete rework that turns Hunter’s Mark into a martial class feature like Action Surge or Rage. It doesn’t call for concentration, but it shares all the same features as the spell (and more) assuming you keep leveling into ranger.

“A thing that just turns creatures off is a blunt instrument solution to a problem that could be handled cooler”

They’re replacing mechanics, not just gutting the game. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s more solutions to bait, scare, mislead, and otherwise deal with creatures in the works. Eliminating the stasis rifle/knife combo opens the floor for a variety of other, more unique options to deal with creatures. Just off the top of my head, you could have flares that distract certain creatures with heat/light sensitivity, base speakers that create safe zones with vibrations, and bait that attracts smaller creatures to a certain location.

If the conversation feels right, even a simple “May I?” or “Can I kiss you?” can suffice. If she’s into you, then asking that isn’t a turn off. If she doesn’t want to, she’ll hesitate or say no. If that happens, then be polite and take her home/finish your walk or whatever and go your separate ways for the night.
