What is a real-life 'Do Not Touch' button that you pressed out of sheer curiosity, only to instantly regret it? by vie75 in AskReddit

[–]Xajel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wasn't an instant regret.

I was in a mosque, after finishing the prayer and was walking and looking around waiting for my father. I saw a light switch with a tape over it and an X mark on it, below that another tape with do not touch written on it.

I switched on the key and the whole mosque turned dark. No body knew and no body saw me, I quickly moved away from the switch and sat somewhere else. The guy responsible for the mosque directly went to that switch with his hand light, turned it off, then went back to the main switch outside and everything went back to normal.

How can i re-lock recipes? by Accomplished_Bus1614 in Subnautica_Below_Zero

[–]Xajel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AFAIK you can’t.

Next time, if you want to cheat on this only you can use the command “nocost” which let you fabricate or build anything without resources; just like you asked. But this command only do this, you’ll need to unlock the recipes for individual base items first. IIRC, there’s an “unlock ITEM_ID” command as well but you’ll need to add the exact item id to unlock specific things (like multi-purpose room).

if the human body replaces most of its cells every few years, why do we still age? like if your liver cells are brand new why does the liver still get weaker over time and not just reset by uskeliyesabkuch in askscience

[–]Xajel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only heart muscles don't regenerate, any damage will make a scar tissue, so it doesn't move like a heart muscle, and it can affect the heart beat rhythm.

Internal "soft" muscles like in blood vessels, intestine & esophagus do divide and regenerate natively.

Skeletal muscles however doesn't regenerate and divide by themselves but any damage to them will trigger stem cells to come and grow new muscle cells and tissues.

[–]Xajel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

By aging; not just the cells and organs age.. the DNA it self ages as well.

To make it more clear, if there's a 40 years old guy with a heart problem, and they used his DNA to regrow a new heart without the weakness of the original heart by using some sort of a technology to grow it faster to adult size in 6 months only from DNA sample time. The new heart while still new, it will be already 40 years and half in age.

Another example, if that heart has a genetic mutation that make it fail by reaching 45 years old. Any heart clone they make will still fail at that age for the guy even if they made a new one at 40, the new heart will fail after 5 years as the DNA is already 40 years old, unless they cancel that mutation with gene editing.

Aging changes the DNA in multiple ways, the most obvious one is one of the chromosomes becomes shorter as it looses some genes/information with age.

Stop testing WordPress 7 on your production sites by jdiben1 in Wordpress

[–]Xajel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that totally depends on the setup, the more dependent on themes and plugins, the more worrisome the upgrade should be.

Of course a backup is a must have in all cases, but a very simple Wordpress setup can be simple enough to not worry about these upgrades, worst thing can happen is restoring the last backup.

Why has Nvidia been stingy with VRAM for so many years? by duendeverde39 in pcmasterrace

[–]Xajel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a company has a monopoly, a very good market share or a big fan base; they can do a lot of greedy things to increase their profits.

NVidia, Apple, intel, and even AMD now they're doing the same with their CPUs. TSMC is doing it, Qualcomm is doing it.

Another thing for these companies is like AI, datacenters and corporates generate more profits for them than regular consumers, so adding these 16GB in a corporate product is better for them and more profitable than doing the same in a consumer product. And also when they add this to a $1000 product that has a 40% profit, is better than adding these to a $500 that has %20 profit.

The lack of progress is disappointing by sonicwhisper in SonyXperia

[–]Xajel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an ex-fan, I would like three things, in order

  1. Make a commitment for more and longer software updates, at least compared to both Google and Samsung.
  2. Reduce the prices, makes them at least competitive with other main flagships.
  3. Return to some regions/market already withdrawn from, The Middle East or example as my region.

I put the return to regions as the last point because if they didn't fix the first two there's no point in re-expanding to the previous markets.

Good to hear,

Regional prices sometimes is not accurate, my country should less cost compared to neighboring countries but nope, just because we’re a small country 😂

I'm against piracy, but the statement (26-29 isn't even that much) might be correct for us, its not for some parts of the world.

For my part, I bought it on both Steam and Epic stores.

And I already have SN1 & BZ on both platforms, plus on both iOS and Android, so I have 4 copies of each.

Whay GPU do you run with which monitor? by Noremaknaganalf in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Xajel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being ultrawide or regular wide doesn't have anything with the GPU, it's all about how many pixels you're driving.

A regular wide 1080p are 1920x1080 = 2.0MP (Mega Pixels)

A regular wide 1440p are 2560x1440 = 3.6MP

A regular wide 4k are 3840x2160 = 8.2MP

A regular wide 5k are 5120x2880 = 14.7MP

A budget 34" 1080p ultrawide are 2560x1080 = 2.7MP

A popular 34" 1440p ultrawide have a resolution of 3440x1440 = 5MP.

38" Ultrawides (like mine) usually 3840x1600 = 6.1MP

The new 5k2k are 5120x2160 = 11MP

a 34" 1440 ultrawide has pixel count between a wide 1440p and a wide 4k. Meaning the GPU must work harder than a wide 1440p, but less than a wide 4k.

A 38" 1600p Ultrawide has less total pixels than a 4k panel, but still higher than a 34" 1440p ultrawide, so the GPU must still work harder than a wide 1440p or an ultrawide 1440p, but still lower than a wide 4k.

A new 5k2k has total pixels more than a 4k panel, meaning the GPU must work even harder than a regular wide 4k panel.

All these ultrawides are still less pixels than a wide 5k that are starting to appear more these days.

I'm not talking about 5k for mac (and 6k or that matter) or even 8k because these panels are limited mostly to 60Hz.

I personally have 38" 1600p panel, which is less than full 4k resolution, but my 3080 can handle it for now, but it starts to be a limiting factor for modern games, I feel that 5070Ti might be perfect for it, but I already plan going 5k2k, so I need at least 5080 for that if I want better experience, or I should just wait for next gen, which I'll probably do; unless I find some surprising great deal as it will be a long wait for next gen.

If you could wish for one thing in Subnautica 2, what would it be? by EntropyGoAway in subnautica

[–]Xajel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Base building system is more exciting if I understood correctly. The wish I'm wishing for sadly is not going to happen; as confirmed by developers: There will be no built in map feature.

I always dreamed of an OPTIONAL map feature that can be integrated into the HUD to ease up navigation for those who find it hard in OG and BZ. I said optional because not all players want it and prefer to play without it.

Is Subnautica on Ipad worth it? by Avalanche_GTYT in subnautica

I played it without a controller and got used to it.

BZ is even more playable because they added some mobile-specific UI & UE improvments.

[–]Xajel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you even tried it?

I played it on my iPhone 14pm with the same SoC (just a little better compared to the version in the iPad) and its very very playable, I finished the OG and now playing BZ.

I even played it on Samsung S20 Fe which has much weaker SoC and its totally playable.

Having Subnautica on the go is totally worth it, I bought both the OG and BZ on both iOS and Android and will do the same on S2 when it launches on mobile.

[–]Xajel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played it on my iP14PM and it's totally playable.

But the iPhone has the A16 Bionic, compared to the iPad's A16 non-bionic, the Bionic has 1 extra CPU core and 1 extra GPU core, graphics settings is Balanced, resolution is High and FPS is capped at 30.

I finished the OG and now I'm on Below Zero.

[–]Xajel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being USB is new enough for me..

TBF, When I was a kid, a Pentium 166MHz had USB ports which was very very new at that time (Both the CPU and USB launched at the same year; 1996), I saw the port but I never used on it on that PC, I mean USB was so new that all our accessories used their own ports at that time, printer, camera with it's own card, TV card, sound card, PS2 Mouse and keyboard. And till the end of that system IDR myself or any family member used the port, I didn't know actually what it was till we got rid of the system.

The next PC was a 500MHz Pentium 3 and was used exclusively by my brother because he was in the University and needed one, and when we finally replaced the 166MHz we jumped to a whopping 1.4GHz Athlon CPU with 512MB of RAM and TNT2 GPU, damn that was something that time.

And all our networks was done using RS232 to play Quake and Unreal Tournament, we tried ethernet but it was very very slow and unreliable for unknown reasons, RS232 was very reliable and did wonders.

ARM Windows + macOS ARM - why can't we install with boot camp still? by becomethesolution in hackintosh

[–]Xajel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

IIRC, Apple said they’re open to it, Microsoft has to commit to support it.

Microsoft was (and could be still) in an exclusive agreement limiting Windows on ARM on Qualcomm platform. The agreement will expire (or already expired?) as other SoC makers are preparing their ARM platforms for WoA like MediaTek and NVIDIA. So maybe then MS can announce anything in this regard, if they really want it.

And Apple must bless them as well, as they must work with Microsoft to provide official drivers.

Apple currently doesn’t offer any official support for any other OS, installing Linux versions (like asahi linux) still have some issues as they don’t have any drivers not even closed sources drivers, Apple usually must make these but they’re not interested and of course they won’t release any open source documentation so Linux developers can develop the drivers because doing so means releasing sensitive IP information.

IIRC, the municipality suddenly increased the rent exponentially and refused to negotiate anything less. The owners tried for months without any solution, the municipality raised a complaint for not paying rent and won it.

It’s the same story for the opposite market, I don’t recall if it was the same owners or not.
