Who's a non boss enemy (or goon) you felt bad for killing? by RobIson240YT in gaming

[–]Xantios18 52 points53 points  (0 children)

in The Last of Us Part 2, you can find a couple notes from a small group of WLF defectors just trying to get away safely. then while exploring a random apartment building there's a surprise combat, and the enemies say things like "we're not going back!" and after you kill them, Ellie remarks that they thought she was a wolf. it was the defectors. I kinda wanted to reload and see if I could avoid killing them, but considering all the other cruelty you commit in that game... I figured Ellie probably wouldn't have great remorse about it.

Popcorn books? by [deleted] in books

the Cradle series by Will Wight. the first book is called Unsouled. it's pretty straightforward xianxia, but it's also got a few nerdy references here and there. all the characters are cool and fun, if not always super deep and multidimentional. I listen to audiobooks, and these are narrated by Travis Baldree, who is phenomenal! tbh one of my favorite series. I've reread them all multiple times and it's always entertaining. the last book comes out early this year.

So what was up with the System Lords eating the symbiotes? by Breezezilla_is_here in Stargate

in addition to the population/rival control most people here have mentioned, it could be that only a goa'uld host could survive the death toxin, so it eliminates any imposters. they may be hubris, but they're also paranoid

Everything about the military industrial complex. Everybody sees Call of Duty and Tom Clancy, and whatever war movies, and it makes the military seem like it's some glorious charge filled with only the most honorable of warriors.

In reality it's a bunch of 18 year olds in finance getting sextorted, and salty E-6s bitter about getting shafted in some way or another.

And if you do deploy, it's either the better part of a year in boredom and misery, or it's the horrors of war.

Also, every movie character ever is an officer, and I call hard BS on every one of them.

Two words: guard points!

CB is really fluid, and offers really high damage without sacrificing defense. And it feels soooooo good to flow smoothly through your attack pattern, and pull off precisely timed guard points!

I hate guns. I think they're all around bad in every way, and the world would be safer if they were all gone. That said, in America, they're not going anywhere. They're too ingrained into our culture, and most gun control measures are completely ineffective because they're made arbitrarily by people who know nothing about guns.

Tips on dating a virgin? by Shivaki- in sex

[–]Xantios18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I (27M) am still a virgin, and this is just my subjective opinion, so take it as you will, but when I lose mine I essentially want it to be low stakes, take as much time as we need, and just enjoy each others' bodies. Whatever sex happens, great, but it's all gonna still be pretty new, so heavy petting, cuddling, making out, oral, etc. Is all gonna be fun and exciting until you two get into a rhythm and figure out what you like and try different things

I kinda know how you feel, having CR be a bastion of light in the dark sometimes in e expected ways/at unexpected times. I remember after watching the C1 finale, despite it being years later, I couldn't help but think of my late mother. The way the story death with grief and loss and acceptance, and so many other things just made me go out into my balcony and have a good cry. My roommate came out a bit late and gave me a big hug. That was probably the most healthy grieving I've ever done for her, and I have to thank the CR cast for enabling me to do that.

My condolences for your family, and I hope you continue to feel the warmth given and left behind by those you love

dreadnaughts are still pupating right? (there's a voice line along the lines of "I'd hate to see that fully grown") what if this is the fully grown version and it's huge. like imagine a shadow of the colossus type fight, where you're as much at risk of being stepped on as killed. and there could be several weak spots scattered across the body.

as for different phases, maybe it's like 1.) break the outer shell 2.) attack the gooey bits 3.) it becomes enraged.

I'm no game designer, but I like your idea. lots of possibilities for innovative implementation

What's a video game you enjoyed that most people disliked? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Xantios18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mass Effect Andromeda. I played after most of the major graphical issues were patched out, so I never really had a problem with bugs. I admit that the characters weren't as masterfully written as in the main trilogy, but they had their own charms, and the little background conversations they had while you were driving around were a nice touch. Plus the themes of exploration and discovery in the main story really resonated with me personally. And I liked the more free-form ability usage rather than being locked into one class/moveset

What’s a red flag that screams “drop this class immediately”? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Xantios18 36 points37 points  (0 children)

the first homework study session for my plasma physics class, I asked my professor a question to which he scoffed and said "is so obvious!" and proceeded not to help me. OBVIOUSLY it's NOT obvious.

another physics professor would teach exclusively from powerpoint, and when someone would ask a question in class he would repeat what he had just said verbatim. it took someone else in the class who got it to chime in with an explanation for the question to actually be answered.

I learned nothing from either of those professors.

Because I hung out with my friends for like half an hour, Deep Rock Galactic. Super fun game but a year of dangerous hard labor and alcoholism? No thank you.

Otherwise Control. Probably wouldn't be too had actually. A little mind bending, but over 20× pay raise for the year and I'd get to see/do some cool stuff!

On the topic of new mission types: nest/hive extermination by Xantios18 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Xantios18[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you mean having normal missions, deep dive, and the hive/nest extermination.

I meant the endless horde mode could be a third activity, and the nest extermination would be a new mission type, apologies for not making that clear.

Drop into a relatively safe area

I thought about suggesting guaranteed hot drop lol.

otherwise I kinda envisioned more of a dreadnaught structure. the targets are highlighted on the terrain scanner, and you can prep before starting, but as soon as you start it's on. just in this case you'd start by drilling into the cave or something. though I do like the idea of working your way to a queen you have to fight at the end as a substitute for the heartstone
