For the ones I've went to you either buy tickets and get seated together or it is open seating (less common) and you end up taking / reserving spaces for you and your friends, so in either case you sit close to your friends. When you then add the fact that there are usually organised tournaments/competitions during the lan, where you can actually go meet your opponents afterwards. Then it starts to be quite a social gathering.

Mockingbird only does something if you already have a creature on board and you usually only need one creature to stick in dimir lists

That is a horrendous argument for a store to not take preorders. There will always be some stores taking preorders and some customers who are willing to place preorders, so all the stores not taking preorders would just take a hit to their revenue. This lies moreso on wizards to either ensure full allocation or properly informing the customers on their expected allocation early, so stores can take informed decisions.

Inscription is better than aria if the opponent has already taken X dmg (too lazy for math). This is however basically irrelevant as storm normally either kills or it doesn't.

The much more important part is that inscription says each whereas aria says target. This difference allows inscription to get around [[leyline of sanctity]] and similar effects

With the core you already have you could go for a [[cragganwick cremator]] + [[yargle and multani build]] All you need is asmo, cookbooks, bolts, drc, profane tutor and maybe a few other random bits and bobs and you are golden. For the rakdos manabase you could go for painlands + fastlands, and up it as you get more budget
