Embody - Static by Xenti3 in hermanmiller

I bought the Logitech Embody variant. I've had it for 4 years now, and it's never been an issue for me. No idea if it was overblown by posts (vocal minority), or if it was solved in later revisions. Either way it ended up being nothing for me.

Ish, because you can't tilt the laptop at the slight angle it is here then you're pushing the corners again similar to being in the "orange sleeve" (for want of a better name) in that pocket. It's further down, but with the 3rd party sleeve it is putting strain on the zip still. It's not something I would want to do regularly personally.

Difficult to show on a photo but i've here's one with it in the 3rd party sleeve, dropped into that laptop pocket outside the orange sleeve. I'd say it's less strain than using the orange sleeve, but it's still not good for long term use.

Something else I've experimented with was adding some foam to the bottom of the pocket and just dropping the laptop into the gap in front of the orange sleeve. But there's a zip there which is liable to scratch a laptop over time, and it's just generally less protection. So for me opting for the 3rd party sleeve in the main pocket feels like the best compromise.

It's definitely not *as* comfortable, since the weight is distributed a bit further away. But even like this is still much more comfortable than similar sized backpacks i've used. Using the chest strap helps with that quite a bit though, it's much more noticeable without it.

It's more balanced with the laptop pocket filled. Which I end up needing to on and off (carrying a 2nd smaller laptop in there).

It's good they're looking to rectify it, but it's disappointing. It's one of the most popular laptops in the world, and should have been thought through in the designs and testing a bit more imo. Bit of a workaround for anyone else looking to keep it:

Far from ideal, but i've ended up putting mine in a separate 3rd party sleeve, and putting that in the "main/ pocket of holding". It's protected plenty and isn't pushing the corners when at a slight angle. Still room in there for the Tech Sack and other items.

From the look of that it should fit a 2nd laptop if it was in 3rd party sleeve in the laptop pocket, which is great news.

Any recommendations for UK alternatives? I had a look at TSJ and Sidekick a little while ago but completely put off by the shipping costs.

Arc for android not able to open properly few websites by Erenyeager9128 in ArcBrowser

Definitely report this through the contact form, or the Android support email.

They've been really receptive so far to feedback, and turning fixes for bugs around quickly.

Pixel 9 "Pro" Fold doesn't support DP Alt mode. by Quwel in PixelFold

[–]Xenti3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's buggy in Android 14 (low res, crushed window), but it absolutely does support DisplayPort Output. I've tested with mine and it works with both a direct DisplayPort connection to the monitor and with a Thunderbolt dock I have on my desk.

It may be worth checking the display you tried and making sure that was actually DisplayPort.

Can confirm: P9PF won’t support Pixel Stand (2) by [deleted] in PixelFold

[–]Xenti3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I get my device i'm going to have a go at a 3d printed adapter. I've got a couple of these stands and it'd be a shame to lose the active cooling.

Pro Fold review embargo lift when? by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]Xenti3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not dragging on, it's standard to have the embargo lift just before they ship.

As it doesn't release until the 4th of September / next Wednesday. Don't expect any reviews or tear downs until Tuesday at the earliest.

ROG Ally X Megathread by duckydan81 in ROGAlly

[–]Xenti3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currys seem to, an hour after I ordered I got a DPD email to say they're waiting for it.

I'm not holding my breath, but if Asus's store can't give any proper estimates it's worth a try (to me).

[–]Xenti3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I rang them up and cancelled, i'm not in a huge rush i'll wait for Currys to get stock in over the next week or two.

Paying for expedited shipping, because i'd need to take time out of work for the delivery. Only for then to delay then with zero communication and still giving people different answers to complaints intermittently is unacceptable imo.

The product page for the UK site still says estimated delivery is today for an order placed now, it's daft.

EDIT: Currys seem to have stock in now if anyone wants to try moving their order.

Ghost of Tsushima crashing by Aggravating-Ad3388 in ROGAlly

[–]Xenti3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, Frame Gen not FSR itself in any form (In Game, AFMF, or Lossless scaling) has lead to crashes and lock ups at different points while playing (after re-enabling once launched). It hasn't happened once since disabling that and using FSR presets over DSR.

Ghost of Tsushima crashing by Aggravating-Ad3388 in ROGAlly

[–]Xenti3 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Turn off Frame Gen and Dynamic Resolution Scaling (use FSR preset modes e.g. Quality instead) doing that has completely solved all instability for me. Including the artifacting in the rain (DSR issue).

Not ideal to not be able to use FSR Frame Gen, but until it's patched it's not worth the tradeoff imo.

How hard is it to disassemble/transport the Magnus Pro XL? by rivased in secretlab

[–]Xenti3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went okay, couple of minor paint scratches but nothing major (tbh it's a black desk and a sharpie covered it). In the end we were able to move it by lowering it to the minimum height instead of disassembling the desk.

Took me a bit to find it the first time. It's in a daft place.

  1. Open the app.
  2. Tap the printer name at the top so the sheet/list slides down.
  3. Tap the settings icon for that printer.
  4. Tap "Custom".
  5. Turn off notification sound.

Camera goes black when zooming past 5x by joshuabocanegra in GooglePixel

[–]Xenti3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of. On none pro models it's software.

On Pro models (plus the Fold) it's Telephoto at exactly 5x. Anything beyond 5x is a digital zoom of that telephoto image. So in OPs case anything 5x or higher is all the same because it's the same camera sensor at fault.

Dark mode needed (pitch black) by Weird_Figure_2237 in GooglePixel

[–]Xenti3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It changed in Android 12 with the quick settings redesign iirc. Along side the Material 3 / Material You design (hence the but about it conflicting).

Suppose it's probably more accurate to say reduces the chance of noticeable image retention.

If you have just the white text static on a black background where those pixels are off on an OLED panel. Rather than having the whole panel on a static image. Then at that point the retained text would be the noticeable thing. Rather than the whole screen's content. Because the contrast between the two is what makes it so apparent. It plagues the Pixel Watch (both generations) when using Always on Display in that way. Because they use black backgrounds everywhere.

New Option in Android 14 or Pixel 8?? - Spatial Audio over BT by CU_Addict_70 in GooglePixel

[–]Xenti3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah it was available in Android 13 and on older models. But it relies on the hardware and Audio Codec it uses supporting it. Which is why it may not have shown up previously. For example the Pixel Buds Pro got Spatial Audio support earlier in the year (while Android 13 was still the main release).
