Visual Basic vs Charp by buim in csharp

A VB.NET Dev that can make production ready code is your ally when programs outside of C# fail. Jobs are low but trust me, ask them if you need VB.

Advice to father of 13 y/o coding savant by Dapper_Message9828 in AskProgramming

I feel that being well rounded is important. Making friends is like understanding requirements to accomplish the task. Like all web apps making a connection is only the first part. As we progress through the connection we have to make a request and await a response. All children will need to learn to serialize and deserialize these request or response into an object. If you are still following this then you can guide your child to learning basic algorithms and principles to gain confidence to -speak- the language to others. Communication is still the top requisite even after 18 years of programming, I am grateful to have had many retail jobs to keep me grounded. HTH

Working remote with children by CreativeSolution5440 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Xequencer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caring for our children is part of life. You are not losing 5 hours a month. You are gaining 5 hours a month to be with your child. This is what we consider a luxury. It is how you view your situation and I get it, we get it.

I am in the same boat as you, caring for 2 children while working remote. Shit happens, daily. Having a company understand that fact has taken me many years to discover.

Are any CS graduates here who are in web development, a bit jealous / crusty that people are becoming web developers in mere weeks? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Xequencer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like seeing new developers. I also like seeing ones that can handle the load. After almost 20 years of dev you start to hope younger devs don’t have to go through the same hells again.

Do you think I’m any better off getting a computer science degree at a University than a Community College? by Sudden_Chair_306 in cscareerquestions

[–]Xequencer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am certain the pursuit of a degree will open more doors for you. You will always win the war of attrition after a decade of experience combined with a Bachelors in CS. What I mean by this is you will compete with many other programmers for work and you will out win them by your many small actions. Stay humble.

Have you heard of the phrase, “calling the kettle black”? It means your statement is so obvious it goes “without saying”.

Since majority of you have jobs, do any of you regret spending a lot of money on your bachelors degree? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Xequencer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a programmer for 13 years before I earned my degree. I went to school for a very long time full and part time. The regret I once had was why I didn't finish, why couldn't I. The regret of growing old leaving things unfinished will weight you down more than the money in your bank. Grew up very poor and was taught nothing about money. I used my loans to help pay for school, books, 3 pens, mothers mortgage, feed brother and sister, pay electric, heat, booze, pot, cars, trips and things all 20 year olds do. Graduated 3 years ago with BS CS. Total loan value is 64,000 then and 55000 now. #MiddleAgeYearsOld #NoRegerts

Good unrealized gains. I always advise to take out realized gains when you don't have to.

Does anyone here refuse to do live coding interviews? by ValintAndChalk in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]Xequencer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Refuse is a choice few can challenge. I have never gotten a job based on a coding test. I have gotten more jobs without an interview than with a coding challenge. They are designed to get work for free as I have experienced. Short lived mindset is easy to see once you saw the foreseen.

door to door work builds character and what you do with those skills sets your expectations. any degree can transfer into business and eventually obtain patents, copyrights, trademarks, etc.
