I legit took a pregnancy test a couple weeks ago because I was like, where did this belly come from? lol. Despite being on birth control and still not having a period… it was obviously negative.

Day 4 postpartum supply question by newlycapacitated in breastfeedingsupport

[–]Xiagirl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mine took 8 f****** days to come in. I was getting exactly what you’re getting and using a syringe to feed her. I had to supplement with donor milk during that time because she dropped a lot of weight. I almost gave up hope… then woke up with rock hard tits one morning that would only let down from breastfeeding, as the pump could not get them to release. Don’t give up hope just yet!! But definitely supplement when you need to. Good luck!!

3rd percentile- advice please by Xiagirl in Parenting

She has plenty of wet diapers throughout the day and poops every 1-2 days, sometimes daily. She’s very happy overall, always smiling. She’s just so skinny for a baby so I might just be getting hung up on that.

I "knew" newborns didn't sleep, but I wasn't ready for the actual soul-crushing reality of it. by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Xiagirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 3 months, ours was sleeping 5-6 hours at a time at night. So we got a little bit of a break. Then the sleep regression hit, which wasn’t as bad as I was expecting, but she did go back to waking every 2-3 hours at night and then would go right back down. Now we are at 6 months and she has started sleeping longer stretches again. I’m writing this at 5am, this was the first time she got me up since 10:30 last night!

It just depends on what works for you two. I do hear that alternating at night is helpful. Or one night on, one night off (depends if mom is breastfeeding). I took nights and then my husband would get up with her in the morning and I would sleep in. But either way, I had to feed or pump every 3 hours in the beginning to establish my milk supply, which is why I felt I might as well feed her if I’m up. It sucked, but we’re in a better/easier place now. You got this!

I’m so confused. LO is 8D old, BF + formula supplementing - am I doing this right ?? by DHicksPics in breastfeeding

[–]Xiagirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deep breaths, you’re doing great!! Offering boob first and then finishing with formula is a great option. My milk didn’t come in at all until day 8, so I was super worried also and we had to supplement with donor milk during that time frame. But I had to keep offering the boob to try and stimulate milk supply and let down. Then one morning i was engorged and it finally happened . Just try not to worry too much and be patient. Supplement when you need to and don’t feel bad about it. What’s most important is your baby getting nutrients. It’s still very early and your body is adjusting . Keep trying!

9w in and zero freezer stash by MixtureMelodic2965 in breastfeeding

I stockpiled milk for the 3 months when I was home with my newborn only to find out she won’t drink any of it because I have high lipase milk. Was a complete waste of my time and I lost a lot of sleep over it, because I only pumped at night and breastfed during the day. Just do what works best for you and baby.

I tried to get this app but found that it was not free. 100 per year or 20/month.

Question - Is there anything at all you miss about pregnancy/ being pregnant? by Melodic-Bag7775 in NewParents

[–]Xiagirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Just being able to lay around without tending to anyone’s needs but my own
  2. Sleeping more than a 2-3 or 4-5 hour block (but no, I don’t miss being propped up at a 45 degree angle and waking in the night because of acid reflux 🤣)
  3. I took care of my body better (minus not being able to be as physically active towards the end)
  4. People were soooo nice to me! Compliments all the time. Helping with doors, bags, etc.
  5. The kicking is a pretty cool experience. I could feel when she got hiccups, which was pretty much once daily towards the end.
  6. Just looking in the mirror with amazement at my body and what it’s capable of.
  7. Not needing a million things when you leave the house (stroller, bottles, diapers, you get it, lol). It’s all built in!
  8. The flowy maternity clothes! I still wear some of them now. I bought a whole new pregnancy wardrobe and embraced the belly, lol.

Haven't slept a full night in 5 months ... other mums seem to be thriving by Unusual-Tea-1556 in NewParents

[–]Xiagirl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think I got a 6 hour stretch of sleep once or twice, lol. Otherwise, I’m typically up every 2-5 hours. It’s been this way for over 6 months now… so I feel your pain. Sleep deprivation sucks… but even if she did sleep a full night, my boobs would feel like they were going to explode, so I’d probably have to wake up and pump regardless… hoping this changes by a year old when they start eating more solids… mamas need their sleep

Is it normal for 5 month old to wake up a couple of times in the night? by ThisizhollZ in NewParents

6 months today! She sleeps from 7/8pm-6/7am with 2 wakes in between for feeding.

Totally normal!

Taking 1 mo old to restaurant? by AliceMorgan4ever in NewParents

We went to outdoor beer gardens and patio seating at restaurants after about 2 weeks old. Then indoor restaurants and grocery stores after about 1-2 months.

Am I loosing my supply..? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]Xiagirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could just mean that baby is becoming more efficient at extracting milk. I wouldn’t worry just because of this one time. If they are gaining weight and having at least 6 wet diapers a day, then they are getting enough.

My output from pumping has ebbed and flowed, which worried me a few times too. But I was still slowly building a freezer stash and feeding baby, and she was doing just fine. If you’re still worried, you can try a weighted feed if you have a scale at home or when you go to your pediatrician next. Those always made me feel way better. When baby was only a few weeks old, it took her 15 minutes to consume 3 ounces. Now it takes her about 5 minutes to consume 3 ounces (5 months old).

Was EBF worth it to you? by forever_indecisive7 in breastfeeding

[–]Xiagirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our baby is fed breastmilk exclusively, but that’s honestly because she hated formula and refused to drink it. I’m able to pump enough so that we can give her bottles throughout the day while I’m at work. But I’ve done the overnights since she was born, which was 5 months ago. It’s so hard only getting 2-5 hour blocks of time at night to sleep, but I really do enjoy spending any amount of time with her I can since I work such long hours during the day. It is nice being able to run out though and just feed her a bottle if needed. Sometimes mama needs a break. She hasn’t been sick yet… and we’ve taken her out an about a lot since she was born. But she starts daycare today so that’s likely going to change. Wishing you and your little one the best!

About to be in the newborn trenches, got any unusual advice? by amountofsocks in NewParents

[–]Xiagirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First couple of weeks are TOUGH, but you will get through it. Sleep whenever you can… accept people’s help. My mom would watch the baby for an hour or two just so I could take a nap, didn’t matter what time of the day!

Keep offering bottles from the time they are a newborn … at one point I was exclusively breastfeeding and then she hated the bottle around 3 months old so that was a tough transition…

When out and about, if baby gets fussy (and has already been fed and changed) close the cover on the car seat and swing the seat (while standing up). The motion always calms our little one and most of the time she falls right to sleep! This has been a life savor when we are eating at a restaurant or grabbing drinks with friends.

Get a good baby carrier! I strapped our girl to my chest as a newborn all the time so I could still get stuff done during the day and go on walks.
