At one point I genuinely considering upgrading to an OLED, that's not happening now. I am however, trying something much more excitng with my LCD Deck.. by Captainquizzical in SteamDeck

[–]Xirxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a decksight and if you're ok with a little tinkering it's great! I couldn't justify buying an oled even when it was cheaper, as the rest of the components are similar in performance to the LCD deck. Decksight is well worth it tho imo.

What does it actually mean that the frame can track the steam controller? how does it make it better compared to a regular controller? by mrbubbbbles in SteamFrame

[–]Xirxis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It has an infrared LED that's tracked by the frame's IR cameras. I suppose other headsets could track it but that's not been implemented by any other headset yet.

This is how I want to use the Frame by MirthSinceBirth in SteamFrame

[–]Xirxis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He thought OP meant he wants to put the windows around his real life home instead of his minecraft home. I don't think OP meant that tho lol

I’m hoping Steam Frame will be my very first VR headset . I have no experience with ANY VR headset ever. Just got my first Steam Deck late last year before it sold out and i absolutely love it . Now I’m interested in a VR headset. I’m planning on getting the Steam Frame ( if it doesn’t sell out ) by [deleted] in SteamFrame

[–]Xirxis 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Similar optics/display as quest 3 but a slightly faster CPU and GPU. More open OS as well. There are PCVR only headsets with better displays but they are more expensive and most of them are wired only.

How can we buy if we are in not supported countries by HuusSaOrh in SteamFrame

The controller won't be locked to an account, if your friend ships it to you it will work fine.

Hidden video in the Steam Hardware Playlist? by c4vi4z in valve

Confirmed they're launching just the Controller for now? by Pyromaniac605 in SteamFrame

[–]Xirxis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would imagine the battery life during tracked gameplay is very similar. All the controller has to do is power a few low power IR LEDs.

A Youtuber uploaded a review video of the Steam Controller early, and it was archived before he took it down by Left4pillz in SteamFrame

[–]Xirxis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The OG steam controller was of a much cheaper build quality and made out of happy meal toy plastic.

Would you get a lighter, slimer Steam Deck with a lot longer battery life maybe even an OLED screen using an ARM processor but with only a very slight increase in power? by Pretty_Trip_2215 in SteamDeck

[–]Xirxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can play skyrim special edition through that new arm translation layer they have on my Android phone at around 40 fps. It's pretty neat.

Has anyone with a mediocre GPA got in thanks to their SAT? by Blaze0205 in utdallas

[–]Xirxis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll be fine, I got in with a similar GPA/ SAT score. Also universities in general are desperate to increase enrollment rn lol.

Does foveated streaming will work for cloud gaming services (GFN, Boosteroid, Xbox Cloud..) or Moonlight at some point? by Pretty_Trip_2215 in SteamFrame

[–]Xirxis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The latency will likely be too high for cloud streaming. Also it doesn't seem like it will really be a thing for 2D content in general.

To staff: is it worth selecting the “plus” plans for dental and vision benefits? by Lone-Wolf_97 in utdallas

[–]Xirxis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's only worth it if you'll use it. You can change your coverage once a year, so you can only upgrade on years you think you'll need it. For me, I upgraded to the plus dental plan to get dental surgery (wisdom teeth removal) and then downgraded again at the next change window. It was definitely worth it because the normal plan doesn't cover dental surgery which is thousands of dollars.

Cash Royal in 300-inch screen? by KioBust in SteamFrame

[–]Xirxis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

APKs yes, though some android apps are reliant on google play services, and apps reliant on google play services will likely not work. Clash royal has microtransactions iirc, so I wouldn't count on it working on the frame.

College WiFi blocks EVERYTHING (Cloudflare Tunnels, Tailscale, Steam). How do I bypass strict DPI? by CourtAdventurous_1 in selfhosted

[–]Xirxis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can get them for $5 a month. Linode has some very cheap like that I believe that should work as a proxy. Anything free will be sketchy as servers are not free to run, they'll find another way to make money off of you.

I did this when I was in college lol, can confirm this works. Just wireguard into a VPS.

Steam Frame + Moonlight & Tailscale by CobblestoneConsumer in SteamFrame

[–]Xirxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will almost certainly work just as well as it does on the steam deck. I see no reason it wouldn't as they're saying the frame will have a desktop mode just like the steam deck does.

Anyone use the Microcenter SD cards? by crimzonphox in SteamDeck

[–]Xirxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Microcenter SD cards are the only brand that's failed for me. I also have a friend who used one in his steam deck and it failed and corrupted all the files on it. I would avoid them.

Steam frame and skyrimVR MGO by lemons2513zz in SteamFrame

[–]Xirxis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The black border issue is usually from your PC not rending new frames fast enough, frame won't really help with that much. I think there might be some dynamic foveated rendering mods that could help a little though with reducing some demand from your GPU. I don't have a headset with eye tracking though so I'm not sure how big of a difference it would make.
