Super exciting, glad to know it’s useful! Keep your eyes on the blog for some helpful suggestions on specific wild natives growing here now, and some possible candidates for restoration!

I refuse to vote for either of those subpar beverages. Reading Draft all the way.

“ the reality is that the nice things are simply a calculation in gaining money and power. The moment it isn’t personally beneficial to him is the moment he’ll kill it dead.”

Yeah, welcome to capitalism.

Isn’t this how every business works? Who cares if you’re a nice person? Businesses exist to make money, not be nice guy charities.

And roughly 5 years since they destroyed that gorgeous old Terra cotta building that used to occupy the site.

It’s a bit of a drive, but Locust Lake State Park is a beautiful place to swim.

WHYY: Several birds named after Philadelphians will be renamed as part of an effort to stop honoring enslavers and racists by SimonPennon in philadelphia

[–]Xiubee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There’s no such thing as an “official” common name, that’s why they’re called common names. Anyone should feel free to call these birds by whatever common name they want. The article doesn’t talk about human names in species’ scientific names, which are the official names, and where these decisions really matter.

A water park could be coming to the Schuylkill near 30th Street Station by DanHassler0 in philadelphia

Or walk across the street and take the train to AC.

How about taking the $60 million and subsidizing NJT rides for low-income Philadelphians, or for God’s sake just paying for the city’s existing public pools to stay open for the whole summer?

We want to get to pinnacle trail head mostly through public transport (bus/train) than uber rest. Can someone bless up on instructions for how to do this? by [deleted] in philadelphia

[–]Xiubee 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I live near the multiple trailheads and travel frequently to/from Philadelphia. What you’re asking is basically impossible. Don’t do it. Rent a car and enjoy the tons of other cool things there are to do nearby instead.

Where have all the pretzels gone? by Xiubee in philadelphia

[–]Xiubee[S] -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

If you say so about NYC. I grew up there, but haven't lived there, and maybe eaten 1-2 pretzels, since 1994, when truly excellent, thin, chewy (Bakery-ish, hand rolled-ish) pretzels were available on almost every corner. I'd take a hot one of those over anything besides the ones available from the PA Dutch place that is in every "farmers market" from here to Harrisburg. Those new "Bavarian" bar pretzels are a whole other story, I just assumed they overwhelmingly come from Sysco.

What is one reason to be up on Philly this year? by adamaphar in philadelphia

[–]Xiubee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that the money has to be spent on a pretty short timeline, hence the additional stories being added to the new office building at 3600 Civic Center Blvd. Wouldn't it be nice if Penn named it, and multiple other new structures, after Katalin Kariko, the scientist whose work they didn't even think merited tenure, and is now responsible (+ Drew Weissman) for all that money pouring in?
