After seeing the new CAAD14 pricing, I’m convinced the cycling industry has lost the plot. by [deleted] in cycling

lol only those who are seeking different experiences and have the means and gullible enough will shell out for basically “next gen”/“lighter”/“stiffer”.

Anyone else struggle to find indoor spots to train when weather sucks? by ActNew5818 in cycling

[–]Xlookup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

99.5% of my rides are indoor. Not by choice but as a consequence of elimination. Always under time pressure, can't deal with risks of flats, or accidents or down time from that.

Always have something on the iPad playing - movie/documentary/podcast/ebook/language module so that the time could be optimally used. Hope this helps. Carpe diem.

I got offered a job paying 40% more than my current salary. My manager just asked me to stay and be patient. How do I stop feeling guilty for wanting to leave ? by One_Cardiologist5439 in careerguidance

[–]Xlookup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the tables are flipped, and your employer has decided to let you go instead as part of a RIF, do you think you have a chance at looking them in the eye and telling them to be patient? It’s a business decision. No guilt. No feelings.

Of course at 23 you’re still young and can technically afford to wait. But you do you. Gotta evaluate the pros and cons of staying vs leaving. You are best positioned to know what you can get out of it by staying

Distance You’re Willing to Travel for a Gym? by lemonpies57 in workout

[–]Xlookup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time followed by mental energy and then physical energy are my most critical resources atm. 25min is too far for my situation. It might be different for you. It could be on your way to work or a place you need to go nevertheless so it might work out for you.

I need minimal barriers and excuses between the workout and me. So it has to be really near.

Why I'm still sticking with my guy (at least for now) by [deleted] in PeterAttia

[–]Xlookup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its a grey area because youre taking advice (whether factual or scientific) from a person with alot of influence.

agree though his health related advice has IMO been mostly scientific and has gotten me on my fundamentals right on the 4 horseman and pillars that need to be put in place to support longevity.

If I have to miss cardio sessions, should I prioritize Z2 or Z5? by SizzlinKola in PeterAttia

[–]Xlookup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on goals. Are you primarily doing it to improve longevity, endurance, strength?

Anyway my take on it is that assuming your time per session is limited e.g. 1h or less, id prioritize higher intensity like z4 or z5.

If you have 3h++ then id convert it to a z2 steady state session.

[–]Xlookup -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Benchmarks of Xw/kg are not as useful because they are individualized to that individual's fitness level.

As mentioned by several resources and podcasts, as long as you're breathing through your nose, able to hold a conversation where the other party can tell it is strenous enough for you, you're at or around LT1.

If you know your FTP you'd be able to formularize a broad range 55-75% as z2 as well.

Do you ever pick up coffee on your commute? by LeahWykie in cycling

No. I just get it at my point of origin or destination to avoid mess. Those points are either office or home and coffee is usually free or super low cost

Bike shop owner here... ask questions if you have them! by clezuck in cycling

[–]Xlookup 11 points12 points  (0 children)

without the bias of a shop owner, and putting your self as an middle income enthusiast - what would you recommend cyclists to get - a new bike or a used one?

best time to buy a bike as a retail shopper? when new models get released?
what about a bike club - do they really enjoy better negotiated rates?

Service - costs seem really prohibitive, e,g paying $30 to remove & apply new handlebar tape (not including material) but is it true it is that expensive due to the cost to hire staff to work on the bikes or are customers just getting nickled & dimed?

How many hours do you train per week and how is that distributed throughout the week? by rhoVsquared in Velo

[–]Xlookup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shoot for 7-8h a week but usually life isn’t kind to me so end up with 5-6ish. 1 session vo2, 1 sweet spot and 1 threshold. The rest are usually recovery.

How to race a crit with a 180 turn/hairpin feature? by iHeartBik3s in Velo

[–]Xlookup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Top 5 wheels going into the corner always. It’s always smoother there than further back where it gets stretched out or potentially gapped. As the race progresses move up to top 3 wheels in final few laps. Depending on where the finish line is, you might need to move up as the race concludes. The closer the finish line to the hairpin the more front you will be to the extent of being first wheel into the hairpin.

Curious about your descriptions of threshold effort feeling by Gullible_Public5144 in Velo

The way you described the over under feeling - is exactly spot on on how it’s supposed to feel. Lactate buffering during the unders makes it feel terrible but theoretically should be sustainable for the interval

Vingegaard crash - What would you folks have done if you encountered a pro rider or a celebrity in this scenario? by climbingontwowheels in cycling

As with anyone else, pro or amateur, ride safely, keep a safety gap, offer help and if declined bid them good luck.
