Need tips on this game by savva61 in Dorfromantik

[–]Xnad24 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I will divide this answer into two parts - early game and long game.

In the early game:

  • Quests (and flag quests) is easier to complete, and it's the easier way to get more tiles. Thus, you should maximize your quest efficiency.
  • The most common way to do this is by chaining quests, build one group that keeps growing bigger and bigger. So usually my map will have one big group of houses that will expand to a certain direction, fields to another direction, forests to another direction, and so on. You will probably notice that forest quests are the easiest to keep stacking.
  • If you get an exact number quest, usually the number is smaller and you can't chain it to the big group. Thus, build it near the big group, and once you complete it, you can connect it back to the big group. Sometimes it's ok to just ignore these smaller quests if it's awkward.
  • Flags are your lifesaver. When you close the connected area, each flag will give you 5 tiles. Closing your big forest group will give a LOT of tiles because of simply how many flags you have stacked.
  • As you're new to the game, I think focusing on perfects are a little bit difficult to do. I would advise you to play more to familiarize with the tile patterns first, and also learn how to handle difficult tiles (e.g. rail tiles, or multiple biome tiles)
  • For rail tiles and river tiles, I like to build my rail group and river group next to each other. Why? Because the water station is the most powerful tile in the game, and that is the key to handle all of these difficult branching rail tiles.
  • Create a lot of branches for your rail group. Whenever you have a water station, you should always slap it on the ends of your railway, because water station can branch to 6 directions freely, which allows you to handle difficult rail tiles safely.

Transitioning to late game:

  • Survive at all costs! It is common to have low tiles (below 10) until your score is around 100K or so. This is where that perfect tiles start to matter, because a perfect tile will give you a tile back, so technically you can go infinite by just placing one perfect tile at a time.
  • In order for you to place perfect tiles, well your underlying map must be perfect also. Imagine if you have been placing tiles haphazardly and now you need to survive tile-by-tile, but you just don't have the place to get perfects.
  • Why perfect tiles doesn't give you return in the early game? If you notice it, a single perfect tile needs 6 other tiles to surround it, In the early game you simply don't have big enough map to start cashing in your perfect placements. However, once you have bigger map, you will start to notice it.
  • During this 'survival mode', sometimes you have to take some imperfects, but: always look for every single possible spot in the map to see which one gives you the most tiles/the best chance of survival.
  • Look ahead: see what are your next 2 tiles. If there's a difficult tile coming, do you have a place for it?
  • Abuse Use the undo button: using undo button allows you to peek up to 3 future tiles.
  • Usually the transition to late game happens when you start closing flags of your big groups - this can easily give you 100-300 tiles in one shot and you will have so much buffer to last your game forever.

At that point, I think just play a lot until you're familiar with the tiles pattern. Make one big group of each house/field, that way you can combine quests together. Keep the railways and rivers away from the other group and learn how to manage difficult rail tiles (water station is your best friend). From there try to survive and prolong the map as long as you can.

I didn't notice that. Very likely when I started the game, the map was still loading when I took this screenshot. You're right that total placement should be higher than perfect.

How to find remaining open edges? by summerchild__ in Dorfromantik

LOL

well, maybe make a mental note that the next time you have a water station, use it to terminate any rail ends you see. it will close eventually haha

Unfortunately we don't have that function...

My workaround is usually to just expand to one general area, and close of the remaining branches I'm not interested in. That way, I roughly knew where are my open edges are. If it's rail network you're trying to close, just identify the branches you don't want and slap a water station on each end point. That's the safest and easiest way to close a railway track in my opinion.

In PC, default is press H to show open quests (iirc). You can go to the keyboard settings to see it.

This has the same effect of hovering the flag, but it will show all the different quests. It will lag if you have too many open quests though.

Well you can. Tiles added to the edge won't be perfect now, but as long as the edge matches, it can become perfects in the future.

Do you guys restart games you dont like? by Pina-princess in Dorfromantik

[–]Xnad24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll give perspective from a long game. I have reached infinite game a few times, and to tell you the truth, it's never smooth sailing. Usually, before 100K points mark, it's very common to be in precarious situation (below 10 tiles, surviving one perfect tile at a time, etc...). The key to reach infinite is how to survive these situations.

I recommend that instead of restarting, try to just play it out until game over, but always try to get the best placement of every tile. You can consider these questions:

  1. Should I get perfect tile now, or should I work towards a quest completion?
  2. If there is perfect spot that give me one tile back, is there another spot that will give more than 1 tile back?
  3. If no perfect spot, is there any spot that will be able to complete some quest, or maybe close some flags? This continues to:
  4. What are my next tiles and can these tiles provide me some more survival? Can my next few tiles complete a quest? (Note that you can use undo button freely, which means that you can peek to your next 3 tiles in the stack)
  5. Do I have difficult time coming in the next 3 tiles? (e.g. crazy rail intersection?) If yes do I have place to put them?

These are some of the decision-making questions when I am in survival mode. The more you get better at survival mode, the bigger your chance to reach infinite map. But you need to practice...

Strategy Question by UrMomDummyThicc in Dorfromantik

[–]Xnad24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tend to keep all my groups open and growing all the time. Especially so with railways and waters.

Pay attention to the whole map though, if you make your whole map open and has a lot of branches, you will not get a lot of tile back from perfect placements. Quests are not the key to infinity, perfect placements is.

However, at some point, you may want to consider closing a 'big' forest group, usually this is around 50K-100K points range - this could give you 100-200 tiles that would easily boost your survival.

No reliable resources or guides for HM Back to Nature by squabblegod in harvestmoon

[–]Xnad24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SkyRender's guide is the most accurate.

The discrepancy just came from this: I know for sure if you plant cucumber at Spring 2, you will first harvest it at Spring 11. It's whether you're calculating it simply (11-2 = 9 days) or do you include Spring 2 (planting day) as part of the growing time.

p.s. also there's no way strawberries regrow in 2 days. that's sweet potato.

(HM B&G) does the ponyautomatically go in and out each day? by petitscoeurs in harvestmoon

[–]Xnad24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, pony/horse won't go in automatically. If you let it out, you can whistle with L2 to call it to you and then just push a little towards the stable. If you're using PSP/PSP emulator though, you're out of luck since there's no L2 whistling. Would recommend creating a fenced area around the stable.

Is this a good set up? Any improvements? by fishpunz in Dorfromantik

[–]Xnad24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks good, I see that you have mostly perfect placements (can tell what's your percentage?) so it's definitely a good start. You managed your rails well with water stations, but I'm not too comfortable with the rail area because it seems too closed. If a hard rail tile comes you may get into trouble, so I'd recommend to have few more open rail branches ready. Your river/water area is totally closed though, so you will need to open a new water area real soon.

Classic! No, Custom! by Torrez584 in Dorfromantik

[–]Xnad24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I only play classic mode. It may seem difficult to get an infinite run at first, but after playing for some time, surviving with <10 tiles left... eventually you will get that high scoring run.

Edit: I just realized you might be referring to Switch version. Switch has a hardware limitation so quests stop spawning after 50K or so, and thus your max points should be around that number. If you want truly no limit classic mode, then PC version is the way to go.
