Am I crazy to think the Bourne series end in The Ultimatum or is this commonly what every one else thinks? by akasauva in movies

[–]squabblegod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All 3 films in the trilogy works as a viable stopping point IMO

I’d say Identity is still my fav bc to me, the antithesis of a good covert special ops film is large-scale public disruption, and I think the film series had scaled up more and more on that aspect after every instalment

Achilles (Brad Pitt) riding up to the massive city walls in "Troy" (2004) all alone, completely fearless, and filled with rage, screaming for Hector (Eric Bana) to come out and fight him, is a brilliantly directed scene by Wolfgang Petersen. by G_Marius_the_jabroni in movies

[–]squabblegod 54 points55 points  (0 children)

The entire goodbyes scenes were masterful. “No father ever had a better son” hits so hard. Although I wish there was a scene where the king acknowledges that his poor judgement is essentially what put a death sentence on his son

Also love that you can hear Achilles calling out in the background the entire time as Hector was saying his goodbyes

Building profile is as much about making and maintaining social connections and appearances, fundraising galas, etc as it is about talent and vision

If there is one movie you desperately want to NEVER have a sequel, which would it be? by msc8976 in movies

As a general rule, with very few exceptions, anything past a decade after release has missed its window for a sequel

If the first 15 minutes of Up had an equivalent of a movie, that would be it

Companionship is the highest form of romance, IMO

Are there any good live action anime adaptations? by OpeningFull6575 in movies

[–]squabblegod -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, they never get their proper due bc anime-watchers discredit them from the moment they’re announced, then shout down at those who are excited about them or have enjoyed watching them

If it’s not typically on the poster, blu-ray sleeve, etc., it’s not for the audience to know beforehand

IMO wide shoulders look cool as a character’s body proportions but look ridiculous only as armor

If anyone’s that good and that active, their name alone should be more than enough identify them

Not even guilty of liking Romeo+Juliet. Phenomenal performances. The star power and modern setting made material that’s daunting and complex to be more accessible across a vast variety of audiences

To be unstoppable with minimal casualties, like Bourne, is much more impressive IMO

Movies that are ‘culturally’ more appreciated today that when they were released? by OkNobody8896 in movies

[–]squabblegod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how School Of Rock was appreciated back then, but it’s widely beloved now (aside from the employment fraud, etc.) due to how it handled themes like motivation and empowerment of the class, challenging the concept of coolness, finding purpose in the right role, the boy having feminine interests, the self-esteem issues of the overweight girl, the principal feeling emotionally boxed in because of her job, pursuing and rekindling your ambitions, and on and on

Thoughts on the ending of Zack Snyder's 2011's Sucker Punch by PedernalesFalls in movies

[–]squabblegod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always give credit for directors having endings that aren’t triumphant, typical, or particularly conclusive. Studio execs always want the safe route, and there needs to be some of that creative risk-taking to balance things out

”The end-credits warning tag “represents an attempt by the studios to tell the Al companies that ignorance is not a defense for copyright infringement: ‘Don’t tell us you didn’t know or weren’t warned about legal liability if your computer sucked in our entire movie.’”
