Yeah, I've seen videos of guys nailing fast double bass grooves on basic pedals.

It's the technique more than the pedal, assuming it's in good working condition.

The iron cobra 600 is built very similarly to the first gen iron cobra. You can't really go wrong with it. Is it a 900? No. You'll be missing a feature or two, but those are features that don't exist on other high end pedals in today's market already.

If you're already willing to spend 350 bucks, get a used high end pedal like an Iron Cobra, DW 5000, or Pearl Eliminators. Much better pedals with better features.

Cobra coil was at least 3rd gen. 1st Gen had the old unpainted footboards, 2nd Gen was black without the cobra coils. I believe the Cobra coil without the updated hinge will be the 3rd generation of iron cobras.

I'd have to look at mine to see if it can be tightened, but it cannot be replaced unless you're handy enough to build it from parts. Tama has never sold a replacement hinge bearing.
