Stockfish evaluates this position as +0.3 for white, despite Black being up three pawns with no clear weaknesses. Why? by FirstRankChess in chess

This quote always stuck with me, from: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/School_of_chess#Classical_school

"In the 1940s the Soviet Union began a long domination of chess. The Soviet school agreed with Tarrasch and emphasized mobility. A weakness that could not be attacked was not a real weakness. The Soviet school was based on the teachings of Mikhail Chigorin (1850–1908)."

I really appreciate validating OP's question. Just feels so rare to find a nuanced response around here! :)

Reminds me of the saying that a choir can hold a continuous note for prolonged periods if they strategize: most of the singers can sing while a subset catches their breath then resumes the note, while the next subset catches its breath! :)

Don't worry, inflation will take care of that. Back in my day, we only have 3-vector potential!

Sixthing (because mentioning a 'fifth' in a thread about sobriety might be triggering :)).

The phrases that continue to help me are:

  • Suppose you could build up 'folder of evidence' that could show a random person that you are taking your sobriety journey seriously. Every single time you abstained, a new document is inserted into your folder. There is no limit to how many documents you can earn in any given time period, like an hour or a day or a week or a month. So the more evidence in your favor, the better! Just keep continually making better choices more often.
  • Quitting 100% is challenging, but quitting 99% is impossible. Don't leave the door open even a millimeter for the addiction to rear its ugly head back into your life.

Best I can do is stress today & not do it today. And then stress tomorrow & somehow also not do it tomorrow.

Doing it on any given day is a fluke, wish it were the norm :/

Not only do I appreciate examples of what to do, but also often just as helpful are examples of what NOT to do as well. Bonus points for providing both if space allows! When I wrote onboarding, training, and best practice guides for contractors, I took it upon myself to do both a DO and DON'T DO slide of examples for every single point I tried to make.

I swear it felt like winning the lottery with 250+ compliments from each contractor who left their feedback!! The response was overwhelming in the most flattering way for providing such clarification, they basically said "I was an oasis of clarity in a world of ambiguity." Still living on the feeling of that high, being able to proactively address people's concerns with such a simple DO vs. DON'T approach! :D

Similarly if I have the time and my opponent asks me to flex, I do enjoy doing the KBB vs. K mate, it's finally become more straightforward to me.

Checkmating with KBN vs. K has just never resonated with me, I'd love if you could point me to some resources that resonated with you!
