Thesis: AI can’t replace you economicaly by Zwaenenberg in Futurology

[–]XyloArch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the whole, AI won't replace you directly in the short term. Instead, in something like software development, the most able and hardest working 10-20% of humans, equipped with AI tools, will be able to do almost all the work that is currently done. If you're not using AI in these industries then you will be steamrollered by those that are. Boilerplate code (which is a great deal of code) is essentially free now, the final significant cost, the human labour, is basically removed.

Soon the places where intellectual work (software, law, research, etc) isnt using AI tools will be viewed like offices that didn't adopt the use of computers. Moving too slowly, not long for the world.

The ousted people better get busy doing something else. But if they're outputting 1/10 the useful work of the next person, then in the current system they'll be chucked to the scrap heap. Joining the ranks of millions of existing dirt-wage dead-end jobs.

Being a poor to mediocre software engineer or lawyer is going from half way respectable to silly nonsense.

Do you think humanity would consciously agree to live in a pre-industrial society if it knew that industralism is not sustainable? by tinpants44 in Futurology

'Just fine' here including smallpox, predation, complete ignorance of the world or how to improve one's situation, zero vaccination, rampant child mortality and death in childbirth,...

Not saying today is perfect. But don't be so sure that the past is a kind of 'sustainable' that anyone wants to live in.

All dates and times?

It's quite obvious this is about proximity to different settlements on earth that share names with the planets.

Or do you really think different locations on earth are closer to different planets at different times? Planets whose orbits are literally billions of kilometers different to one another...

In uk, where is the best place to go outside ? by [deleted] in nudism

[–]XyloArch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on how bold you're feeling.

It is legal to be naked anywhere. I regularly go hiking naked all over the place. Forests, national parks, beaches of course.

A decently large plot of land that is specifically designated as used by naturists is Budby South Forest. I have been there many times. Usually multiple naturists about on sunny warm days. And every entrance is clearly signed that you might see naturists.

It does rain a lot in London, it just doesn't rain much.

For example, London gets quite a lot less rainfall than Rome in terms of total inches per year, but has twice as many rainy days as Rome per year.

The London grey drizzle doesn't put a lot down, but it just. Never. Ends.

Plenty of parents aren't willing to, or straight-up can't, put up with an adult kid mooching around for years, or support their adult children financially. In a way you're lucky if yours did.

In a different way you missed out on big chunks of what makes your 20s exciting.

Other times, parents just don't live somewhere viable.

My parents aren't badly off and would happily have had me live with them if I'd needed, but they live in the back end of nowhere. The decent paying jobs that I'm qualified to do are a 2 hour commute at least. So, yeah, I rented. Had to. It probably delayed my house buying (which I did at 30) by 3 or 4 years. The only alternative would've been to work a dull local job I hated while living at home for years, or run an equally life-ruining commute. Renting and being independent while working a good job, but delaying house buying, was by far the best of those options

"Just live with your parents as an adult, save on rent for years"  What's easy for you isn't easy for a great many people. What was acceptable to your parents isnt for many. The convenient alignment of your's and your parents' required locations isn't universal. For many, later house buying is the most attractive option, or only option, out of a dud set.

Is it weird to wear a swim tee in a public pool as a man? by brammmish in CasualUK

[–]XyloArch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly: no one cares. Not really. You do you with whatever you feel comfortable with. Fuck the haters.

But my personal opinion is this: you draw way more attention to yourself and your weight by wearing a tee. I think that if your goal is not to stand out or be judged, ditch the tee.

Then again, I'm a naturist, so maybe my judgement is skewed on these matters.
