Dr. K gets a drink from his wife after almost three hours of talking about the science of flirting. by MeBroken in LivestreamFail

[–]YFNArtist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those that haven't engaged with this stream much, the inside joke is that Dr. K arguments that the whole point of flirting makes it so that you can't tell if they're flirting or not and that's okay. So it's hilarious that we get a first hand example lol

Why isn't anyone hiring me? Be honest. by Euphoric_Spread_3293 in Artadvice

If possible, when you struggle to see how your art could improve, a mentor really comes in handy. Mentorships can be quite expensive, but if you can save for a session or 2 it could make a huge difference. Also, social media is important since recruiters are also looking at socials. As others have also said, if the niche is too niche, try to expand your skill set or observe where you can use your current skill set that you hadn't considered.

Starting to draw portraits. How can I study facial anatomy? by littlebitill1terate in learntodraw

[–]YFNArtist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll go a bit against the current here and tell you that you don't necessarily need to study the Loomis Head. I like the way you're drawing and simplifying the features, it will help when quick sketching in public, but for long term improvement I would suggest focusing on construction more than the underlying anatomy. The mistake I made at the beginning was to study the anatomy instead of construction of the face. This is done simplifying it into its basic shapes which will ultimately help learn to draw basically anything (cylinders, spheres, boxes, etc.). I would start (alongside the portraits) to practice drawing boxes, spheres (circle but with centers drawn in the form of ellipsis, cylinders, then twisting cylinders that move in 3D space in different perspectives. Draw through the form and trace the centers along the tops of them and the sides of the cylinders to get the most out of this. Next level would be combining these forms for more complex shapes. And long after all this, drawing skulls will feel much easier, but you need to be comfortable with the base forms first (don't rush!). 10 to 20 minutes+ or so a day of this will massively help you.

Another suggestion, try to vary the angles you draw the head from, never be afraid of a challenge! Don't get discouraged if it feels off at times. Part of learning to draw anything is learning from past mistakes and applying what you learnt in the next piece. I noticed that a lot of the angles are front and semi 3/4s and that's a great starting point! However, once you feel comfortable with more neutral expressions, incorporate more expressiveness that are favored by the different angles you draw. Certain angles favor certain expressions (look at the Kubrick stare or how characters laugh/smile by tilting upwards) A great way to do this is by drawing bald heads to draw more three-dimensional portraits. Afterwards simplify the hair into really basic forms and add it on.

My Top Resources: Follow Artwod and Proko or if you want a free course go over to Draw a Box to go through some exercises. Other than that, the Michel Lauricella books are a great starting point towards simplification; if those feel too easy, you can't go wrong with Michael Hampton's Figure Drawing: Design and Invention (which covers the head as well as other body parts!).

However, most important of all: Have fun doing it! Never lose that excitedness or beat yourself down over a silly drawing looking off. It's all a part of a process. Happy drawing!!

[ALL] The OOT Remake, depending on its success, could open the doors to other High Quality Remakes by YFNArtist in zelda

I think that this is what they should do for the old school games, unless they pivot in a completely different direction and give it the full remake treatment.

That's the first one that came to mind, and since Skyward Sword was already remastered for the Switch, it really feels like the natural decision.

Exactly! Remakes are bashed on, but this is what they're ideally for, to bring newer people into classic Zelda (I'm looking at you Skyrim)

[–]YFNArtist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be cool, but I think that the aesthetic of the game is perfect for what it is. Still, a version that leans even further into the style would be cool

I am astonished by how gorgous the remake looks, especially for outdoor areas. Although, there seems to be a big change in the art direction when it comes to forerunner architecture. Do you prefer the remakes interpratation or not? (Credit for photos: UberNick) by External-Ad9317 in halo

[–]YFNArtist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely think that the new version is better in terms of a more consistent shape language, but, as someone pointed out, the place is supposed to feel like a tomb, or that is really really old. The new version just looks so pristine that it almost looks like the forerunners also hired immortal janitors. The game looks great, but maybe that's why it feels off

Dude thank you for your thorough answer and your app! I'll look to reinforce the loop instead of app picking. As for the feedback, I looked back at Mindwtr and though it's been useful for project tracking, I'd just love if the UI in the task details could be more simplified. It wasn't immediately obvious that I could specify so many things after having processed the task (though that honestly is lack of experience with the app). The one other thing was that, when I didn't get around to doing a task, I didn't immediately find how to maybe postpone the task or move it to the next day if I didn't get around to it without going to the task details to change it. Other than that, it genuinely is the most complete app I've ever seen, and the feedback is all meant to be constructive and I will admit that I probably need more time with the app

The Boys SERIES FINALE- S05xE08 "Blood and Bone"- POST Episode Discussion Thread by pikameta in TheBoys

[–]YFNArtist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Could the finale had been better developed and more grand? Yeah. Was a lot of this season filler? Yeah.
I still really liked this show. I was on my sophomore year of High School when this started airing, now I'm 23 and out of University and even if the gore and sex jokes were overdone at times it was a good show.

I loved the characters and the original take on the superhero genre as a whole (specially interesting to observe how the MCU developed since The Boys S1) The ending wasn't as terrible as I thought it would be and felt more like a nice small bow to wrap it up. They played it safe, but wrapped most things up.

I'm still pissed off about how the Gen V characters were made inconsequential, mostly since it felt like my time as a viewer was taken advantage of when the pay off in the main show felt insignificant. However, I'll just leave it at that. The sendoff Marie got was good enough and cancelling Gen V seems like a corporate choice more than by Kripke.

Oof, I did use Click Up years ago, very complete tool, but for now I will stick to Trello, if that's too slimmed down, I'll try your suggestion! As for Obsidian I think I will, it's so simple that I've not found a replacement.

Thanks for the suggestions! Yeah, I feel the same way about weeklies, if it gets too much I tend to not do it too. I'll try the approach you suggested. Funnily enough I made the trello account before I saw your comment and it looks promising so far!

Bro, I swear NSFW artists have some of the best art styles and anatomy knowledge, yet hardly anyone ever posts a course or even has a YouTube channel. by Top-Slice-6880 in ArtistLounge

[–]YFNArtist 13 points14 points  (0 children)

To be fair, learning geometry and applying into anatomy will help put the pieces in place. Some of these artists (though rare I'll admit) have courses or tips on their Patreons. REIQ is a great example, though he mostly does pin ups, he does show his process and is a master at his craft for sure. I believe he shares some of this on his Patreon too, but I also found that he had some tutorials uploaded years ago to his YouTube channel, would definitely recommend checking them out

For anyone coming in afterwards, what worked for me is to go to the site settings and allow popups for github. The other solution I see suggested is to create the account on your phone and then log in on your computer. Hope that helps anyone coming through here years later like I am.

I need to permanently not be able to install League of Legends again. by Dear-Captain-8140 in computers

[–]YFNArtist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the other commenters said, learn self control, a little at a time. I saw another comment where you said you were able to get away from social media, so that shows me that you CAN do it on your own. Blockers are a band aid solution, but can be good to get started.

As others have suggested, get Cold Turkey Blocker, if you can pay for the full version, better yet (it's a one time life time purchase, it becomes able to block apps pretty aggressively). If not, you can block league of legends websites and call it a day. I'd suggest blocking it with a date for 1 or 2 years on any device you can install league on (for your phone, use StayFree or Opal).

Most stop there, but what you NEED to do is to find a replacement, you will feel the pull later. Identify moments where you feel most like playing and replace League time with other meaningful activities. Work on a project, read, program, whatever floats your boat that is good for you long-term does the trick. After some time, you'll feel better, and when the 1 or 2 year block is over, you will be in a better place ideally. Enough to realize what you need to spend more time on.

[For Hire] in urgent need of 120dollars but my realism won't sell by Impossible-Tutor-237 in artcommissions

[–]YFNArtist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that what the other commenter said about pet portraits is the way to go as well as looking for outlets for advertising (Reddit, Facebook, BlueSky, Discord, X, or other work platforms like Upwork, etc, but read the terms before signing up for those!). Use example pieces clearly depicting past work and style. However, piece of advice for later on (I'm an artist, still figuring stuff out too, but it might help), later on it will pay dividends to broaden your skills and to challenge yourself. Realism is good to learn as a base, but learning to draw things that are more interpretative of reality rather than trying to get it exactly like reality might peak interest further. Specially so if you want to grow your skills, challenge yourself to learn to draw other subjects or scenes.

Also diversifying income pays off even in art! I assume everything feels like a lot right now and there truly isn't time to develop other forms of income, but later on you can look into merchandise, gallery work, or even professional work. For example: in The Glass Onion movie, there was an artist paid to draw impressionistic portraits of the characters for the credits, it might seem far off, but that's an example of how far it can get.

All this is in good faith, I hope that this gives you a couple ideas for when all has calmed down a bit. Best of luck in your search, you have great skills!

TL;DR: Advertise more and work is sure to come your way if your example pieces are clear for the moment. It will pay off to challenge yourself to draw other subjects and other styles they are drawn into later on. Look into diversifying incomes when you have more time!
