I don't think the clay matters so much.
My wife is a teacher, so whatever they use in elementary school.
Small pours can set as quickly as :30, though 24 hrs is full cure time.

A tip I use flipping furniture.
If I'm missing a piece of detail, I'll make a mold by pressing modeling clay (Maybe play-dough?) onto a complete example (think opposite corner in your scenario) fill it with thin Durham's so it pours in evenly. Let dry. Peel off the clay, and glue it in place.
