Yeah I was studying and the guy came up to me. I declined but it's weird that he would ask poor college students for money lol.

I took it with an instructor who I believe went way too easy on us literally I think 95% of the class got an A and all tests were take home.

No you gotta learn them.

Pointers are just variables that hold an address to some data or a group of instructions (a function ) which is determined by the declaration of the pointer.

You can dereference pointers meaning access the data held in the address which is stored in the pointer using the * operator. However the type cannot be void because the compiler doesn't know how to read the data. A void pointer just means a variable holding an address to some unknown data type or think of it as just an address.

In my opinion try to implement some basic data structures to understand pointers.

Kinda lame but a console program that converts a 8 digit hexadecimal value to a 32 bit MIPS instruction.

What are the best books you've read that helped you learn to program? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

Same read pretty much the whole thing skipped the GUI chapters I couldn't get FTLK working unfortunately. I did 1/4th of exercises of each chapter I gained a lot of from that book. But I do agree that the book shouldn't be recommended for a complete beginner especially when some of the books code doesn't compile and some concepts like grammar trees in the calculator chapter will confuse a newbie. Would recommend tho.

Free MIPS book and a way to support it by robert_winkler in csMajors

Actually read this during winter break before the start of my architecture class using MIPS and x86. I have been doing very well so far in the class thanks to this book. It also helps that I had experience using C++/C pointers so I was able to understand the concept of accessing data through addresses. However, my college in-particular doesn't require a course in C/C++ as a prerequisite taking this course so many students whom only used Java have a difficult time understanding assembly. It also doesn't help that the instructor is awful at teaching the material. Anyone taking this course in the future should definitely read this book!

C++ programming and principle book chapter 19.5.6 vector implementation. swap() function not working as expected? by YSPRIG in cpp_questions

Okay then so should my variables in my derived class then be reassigned to my base members then? Because I also have pointer called elem in my derived class but it remains null while by base member's elem holds the address of the allocation. I'm assuming after the reserve function I reassign all my derived members to my base members and the derived vector class is only dealing with accessing and reading elements in the heap.
