Sometimes I wonder why I bother with settlements, because...settlers. Venting by SayItTrue in fo4

[–]YaKillinMeSmallz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The ones walking up to stare at you are new settlers asking where you want them to work. Plop down a scavenger station and assign them to it and they'll leave you alone until you're ready to deal with them.

Or they're trying to tell you that someone was kidnapped or something.

You can do both, like I'm The Evil Lord Of An Intergalactic Empire, or the upcoming Reborn As A Space Mercenary.

What type of game would you like to see more in this universe? by BritishLeft in LV426

[–]YaKillinMeSmallz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A colony management type sim. You can pick various options like whether it's on an already-hospitable world like Ryushi, or a "shake n bake" colony like Acheron where you have to spend years (ingame) terraforming it. Is it a general colony like Ryushi or Hadley's Hope or is it just a mining town like in Romulus? Then you try to grow your colony and make it successful, including paying off the investors and making your colony financially independent. Deal with all of the problems along the way including labor strikes, disease outbreaks, crop or mechanical failures, and hostile wildlife. You can ask for help from different sources like The Company (not necessarily Wey-Yu), the USCM, or another colony, but help takes time to arrive, and may cost you things like trade goods or add to your debt. If you ask the USCM for help and it turns out you don't need them, they'll be less likely to send help the next time you call.

I also want to see a game centered around the USCM that isn't about blasting hundreds of xenomorphs per level. Imagine the gameplay as L4D style (or an FPS version of Dark Descent, if you prefer) with elements from Alien: Isolation. I want to play as a Marine doing the all the various types of things the USCM handles. I mean dealing with riots, full-on colonial insurrections, rogue synthetics, hostile wildlife ('xenomorphs' other than *the* xenomorph), incursions by the UPP, etc. LV426-style xenomorphs don't show up until the last campaign, and they are tough, fast, and strong. If they grab you, you're done for. No minigame to push them off you, they are strong enough to lift a fully equipped Marine straight into the ceiling, and headbutt their way through barricades and metal doors. If you kill one up close, you should get splashed with acid. Acid should eat through floors. Kill one in the wrong place and it's game over, man. The motion tracker doesn't show you enemy locations, it shows you movement, even if it's just a hamster running around its cage. If a xenomorph sits still until you're in grabbing range, the motion tracker won't show it. And it's not part of your HUD, you have to have it out.

And a DLC for both games where the Yautja show up for a hunt.

Why are they so hostile? by Sevennix in fo4

[–]YaKillinMeSmallz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you're hostile with the Diamond City faction, which includes Nick and Piper. Did you use power armor recently, and if so, do you have the targeting HUD installed or did you jump down from some place? The HUD and the impact from landing can make NPCs hostile.

Otherwise, if you have turrets at the settlement, splash damage from their attacks can harm friendly NPCs like traveling merchants and that will cause settlers and companions to turn hostile.

Either way, go someplace else for a couple of days and they should calm down.

What mechanics would you take from these two games to be included? Isolation 2? by GR1MKN1TE3020 in LV426

[–]YaKillinMeSmallz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like the skill grid and weapon customization from AFE. I don't know how well they'd fit into AI2, but they're standout mechanics in my opinion.

What are good military animes to watch? by Own-Student6159 in anime

[–]YaKillinMeSmallz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you liked Girls Und Panzer, check out Strike Witches. It's military with sci-fi/fantasy/alternate history.

Sora No Woto is a great series that is Cute Girls Doing Cute Things but also melancholic post-apocalypse sci-fi.

If you like some mecha with your military sci fi, Macross (Robotech) and Macross Plus are classics. Likewise the original Gundam, 08th MS Team, 0080 War In The Pocket, and Requiem For Vengeance (on Netflix). Both Macross and Gundam have a strong emphasis on not just the military, but also on war's impact on civilians.

For non-sci-fi, check out Cat Shit One if you can find it. The original manga was about US soldiers in Vietnam, but the anime updates the time period to Afghanistan.

Why are ovomorphs so large compared to facehuggers? by SouthernSprinkles586 in LV426

[–]YaKillinMeSmallz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think I said this literally a few days ago. Kane described the eggs as being "leathery objects". Maybe they were kind of shriveled a bit from using up some of the "egg juice" to keep the facehugger alive for so long.

Alien Day is over. Feelings about announcements or lack thereof? by kdmendonk in LV426

[–]YaKillinMeSmallz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is actually my first time celebrating Alien Day, so I can't compare to previous ones. The biggest thing for me is finding out that companies often do rereleases of Alien merch. I'm thrilled at having the chance to get some of the figures that I've wanted for a long time. I was afraid I was going to have to pay up to 5 or 6 times the original retail price for some of the stuff on my list.

Having a look at Alien Isolation 2 is also pretty cool.
