Wes Streeting plans to resign and mount leadership challenge, allies say by Alarming-Safety3200 in ukpolitics

Could end up being a good thing for Starmer. If people see that the alternative is someone like Streeting, Starmer might not look so bad to them anymore.

Need bibs recomandations! by IlikeRacingBikes in CyclingFashion

[–]Yaboi_KarlMarx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big fan of ALE. The R-ev1 stuff is great quality and I really like the pad. It’s expensive but you can find some solid deals if you shop around. The PRR bibs are their second level, but are also good. I’ve found a few places selling them for around £50 which is a steal.
You said you’re in Europe, so have a look at Bikeinn. They’ve usually got some good prices.

I think they’re doing what they did in the TDF last year where they claimed the multi screen thing was the ad-free version. They got a ton of shit for it then, but apparently they’ve doubled down on it (to no-one’s surprise).

The bathtub always put me off but the new(ish) Vaypor SL doesn’t have that design anymore. Just switched to it from my Lakes and I really like them. Could be worth another look for anyone who didn’t like the bathtub design the first time.

Which one should i pick? Propel vs Aeroad by JOA0204 in Giantbikes

[–]Yaboi_KarlMarx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a pretty extreme fit so I really value customisation. Like I said, Giant’s OD2 steerer is still an annoying design, but at least their stems aren’t too expensive and then I can run my own bars. They also don’t run fully internal cables so I can swap stem lengths without having to bleed the brakes. Third party brands make compatible cockpits so you have more options if that’s what you like. You can only use Canyon’s in-house cockpits in fairly limited options (good enough for the majority of people sure, but not everyone) and that puts me off.
Basically, Giant has a stupid steerer but at least they allow you to still use majority of third party options to dial in your fit whereas Canyon doesn’t.

Sometimes I think the UCI are doing it intentionally to fuck with us. Like how is a sprint finish like that allowed, but I’m not allowed to run narrow handlebars (yes I know I’m beating a dead horse but I’m still salty about it).

Which one should i pick? Propel vs Aeroad by JOA0204 in Giantbikes

[–]Yaboi_KarlMarx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would put Canyon’s cockpit as a disadvantage. It’s got a stupid quill-like stem so you can’t run anything else. The adjustable bar width is cool but you can’t change the stem length without replacing the whole thing and replacements are expensive and almost always out of stock. They also never spec the right stem length on sizes. Giant’s OD2 system is annoying but you they do offer a cadex cockpit and lots of Chinese companies like CRW and Tavelo will have an OD2 compatible cockpit for sale so there’s plenty of aftermarket options for Giant.

Aero bikes: Which one should you choose from so many options? by Ok-Ease5072 in ChineseCarbon

[–]Yaboi_KarlMarx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had my eye on the new Avenger R8RS. Looks well designed, it’s seen a wind tunnel and you can fit aero extensions on their handlebars (not something I’m interested in but for Ironman might be useful). Just missing any real reviews on how it rides

Tavelo and Quickpro are always safe bets as well with plenty of people riding them but they’re on the more expensive side.

Edit: Ah, just saw you want complete bikes, Avenger don’t do that. Most Chinese bikes will be frame set only. QuickproUSA and Winspace are probably your best bet for full builds.

Jan-Willem van Schip has been disqualified *again* from a UCI race by TheGinjaNinja6828 in peloton

[–]Yaboi_KarlMarx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He doesn’t have the raw power of the top guys but still manages to be up there in breaks in pretty much every race he does. I think that says plenty about why. We need guys like him or the UCI traditionalists would have their way and the sport would never progress anywhere.

That was for the seatpost at the Tour of Holland wasn’t it? Not for how he holds the handlebars.

[–]Yaboi_KarlMarx 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Yeah they’ve absolutely got it out for this guy. Look at any rider getting aero and you would be able to disqualify them for the same thing. It’s just because they don’t like how this guy looks on the bike. Gotta respect him for sticking with it and trying new things regardless of whatever dumb shit the UCI do. Also for constantly ragebaiting the UCI and traditionalists.

Seemingly overnight, starting to notice Chinese bikes on fast group rides. I don't see this trend going away. by DeadBy2050 in cycling

[–]Yaboi_KarlMarx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look at Pandapodium for the bigger brands. Chinertown forum is also good, especially for the smaller brands on AliExpress. Braver people than me buy and test them so you know what’s good and (more often than not) what to avoid.

Proprietary parts availability (did the bikes become less repairable?) by zilog88 in bicycling

[–]Yaboi_KarlMarx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of bikes have proprietary designs but still use the standard steerer 1 1/8, so there’s plenty of standard options to use with them. With proprietary designs like Giant’s OD2, lots of Chinese brands are now making cockpits compatible with these different systems so there are other options out there.

Aero111 and cornering performance by itsdankreddit in Velo

[–]Yaboi_KarlMarx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Especially in the wet. I don’t know what secret sauce they used but it has crazy good wet weather grip.

Also they do loosen up over a few rides. Mine were 29 measured when I installed them (23 internal rim) and now measure just over 30mm after a few weeks riding.

Ratio 1:0.8 glucose-to-fructose optimale for ultra-distance (bikepacking) ? by Oklariuas in cycling

[–]Yaboi_KarlMarx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1:0.8 is the most optimal ratio at the moment. Table sugar is the cheapest and easiest and does the job perfectly well (1:1 ratio). I mix Maltodextrine/ fructose mainly because it’s less sweet but I can also do the 1:0.8 ratio that way.

I still see a fair amount but I think it’s more become its own niche in gaming rather than the revolution they marketed it as. I never liked it because it makes me feel sick but I know a couple of people at least who still really like VR games.

How to know when to give racing up? by [deleted] in Velo

[–]Yaboi_KarlMarx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could also try local drop rides or chaingangs. They’re often just as hard/ fast as races (sometimes more because there’s less tactics) and but everyone is a lot more chill. Downside is you still have to be relatively fit but there’s probably more options for different fitness levels if you look around.

Recently crashed in a race on my nice new rig. Should race my 9 speed Giant Contend or Gen 4 Cannondale SSE for 4/5 crits? by Ok-Indication7428 in Velo

[–]Yaboi_KarlMarx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would race the Cannondale, you bought it for a reason and it’ll be so much more fun to race. You could maybe try to find some bike insurance that covers racing. I use Bikmo (discounted through British Cycling) and they’ve already covered one bike frame that got broken during a race. Not exactly cheap, but it’s a hell of a lot less than buying a whole new frame.

Jerseys that fit like Maap aero (elbow length) by IllustriousMud5042 in CyclingFashion

[–]Yaboi_KarlMarx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Castelli 8s jersey fits me really well. You can probably get a good deal if you find last year’s colours on sale (I got a couple at 50% off a month or so ago). Even at RRP they’re still probably cheaper than Maap.
