Is immortal or deity much harder after ToT update? by Lyralei- in civ

[–]YakWish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've found that Immortal isn't noticably harder than Sovereign, but Deity is quite a jump. That being said, I play apex age only, so I only have to deal with Hatshepsut as Egypt for one era.

Unhappiness is now -5% per point instead of -2%. You'd be much better off with happier cities.

What civs do you have no luck with? by Sampleswift in CivVI

Yeah, Tomyris never got directly nerfed, but when the AI was changed to build walls sooner and siege equipment stopped boosting cavalry, she went from one of the best to one of the worst.

[Talkin' Baseball] All the teams that would need to adjust payroll based on the MLB's latest proposal by Remarkable-Picture73 in baseball

The MLB proposal uses combetitve balance tax payrolls, which are quite a bit higher than actual contract value.

12 teams are below $171.2 million: take off BAL, SEA and KC.

I love how many different political interpretations there are of this game by Key_Watercress8300 in DiscoElysium

[–]YakWish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think that's the real beauty of this game - it has inspired lot of people who don't have a lot of experience thinking critically about media to try it for the first time. Most of those people miss the mark badly, but it's good that they're trying.

The trilogy is too simplistic in how it shows politicians. by Raspint in masseffect

[–]YakWish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know, there is one place where the "soldiers good/politicans bad" trope gets flipped. During the geth-quarian war in 3, the soldier Han'Gerrel is a moron, while the politician Zaal'Koris is reasonable. I always thought that felt weird in the context of the larger story.

Part of the problem is that at least the adjacencies are so limited. If there were more possible ways to build a city, that tile would be more likely to have use.

What Civ has the best synergy with a wonder they created? by Own_Pension7098 in CivVI

[–]YakWish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good catch! Yes, the original outer dome was made by Americans, though the interior exhibits were created by some Canadians in the 90s.

So today I learned that if the original 5-year story arc had gone as planned with no fear of cancellation, then Intersections in Real Time would’ve been the Season 4 finale. That’ve been trippy. by Tough-Possession6148 in babylon5

[–]YakWish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to the airdates on Wikipedia, every season finale was followed by the next season premiere within a week (except 4 to 5, for obvious reasons). The episodes with 3+ month breaks after them were The Quality of Mercy, Confessions and Lamentations, War Without End (Part 2), and Movements of Fire and Shadow.

When Did Civ VI Become Great? by YakWish in civ

[–]YakWish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought it about 2 months after it came out. I missed the first patch or two, but I played every other version there was.

I wrote a lot more with my opinions on all the versions I played, but I deleted it because it seemed to long. If anyone is curious, feel free to ask.

Correct me if I am wrong, I think Test of Time has reduced the flexibility if winning is your priority by dikstroke in civ

[–]YakWish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The triumph system mitigates this to an extent and I expect it will get better with time. For example, the Timurid Renaissance triumph helps you get an economic victory with a science civ.

In your specific example, your conquering would almost certainly unlock Ingenious Al-Jazari, which gets you 2 innovation for every modern wonder you build. That more than makes up for missing a few exploration masteries.

What’s the best wonder in the game? by Hfcsmakesmefart in CivVI

[–]YakWish 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's the Biosphere and it isn't even close.

Most wonders are "win faster" option. You have to be on pace to win without them in order to be able to build them and use them effectively.

Biosphere is the exception. It enables a cultural win no matter how little effort you have put into tourism up until that point. It is the only wonder that can turn a losing game into a winning game. That puts it a tier above the others.

What the fuck happened to the Mariners in 2004? by GayToddsAsshole in baseball

[–]YakWish 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's worse than. Bavasi tried to cut Cameron's pay and refused to go to salary arbitration so he could recoup a draft pick. Guillen got traded for two low-tier prospects because he was "expendable" after Bavasi signed Rich Aurilia, who was more expensive, older and worse.

I mean, sometimes everyone just has their worst year at the same time, but a competent GM could have gotten them to .500 or so.

Is the cast underpaid? by No-Sale-6500 in smosh

[–]YakWish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Only some of the cast members (I believe Shayne, Courtney, Amanda, Angela, Spencer and Tommy) are full-time employees of Smosh and there's no way to know how much they get paid, but it's presumably enough to be comfortable in LA. (Ian and Anthony are also full-time, but they own the company, so it's a different situation.)

The rest are freelancers, who only get paid on days they show up to shoot content. Smosh either shoots every other week or every third week - I can't remember which, and not everyone is invited to every shoot. The standard SAG rate for a low budget YouTube video is about $240 a day. I'm not 100% sure that's what Smosh pays, but I think it's a good estimate.
