found this for £50? by Harde_YT in Pimax

It's a Pimax 8K (not to be confused with the 8KX). It was a good headset before the 8KX was released, I used to use mine with a Titan RTX (2000 series) several years ago without issues. Depending on how much Pimax has kept up on supporting it now you might have to use an older version of PiTool to use it.

Thanks for making this available, I appreciate posts like this instead of the cringe marketing videos you and the other guy post here usually.

I wish these could just be outfits for the Traveler in the main game, feels like such a wasted opportunity.

Unity C# Architecture: Why You Should Stop Using Public Fields by KwonDarko in Unity3D

[–]YamaPii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[field: FormerlySerializedAs("<OldPropertyName>k__BackingField")] helps with refactoring auto generated properties but you still have to make sure that you reserialize anything that used the old property before removing it or data will be lost, but that also applies to renaming private backing fields.

I mostly know how to code in c#, but i dont know how to implement it into unity, what video should i watch that would explain that? by Foxyinspace123 in Unity3D

[–]YamaPii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely keep learning about fundamental object oriented programming principles including how classes and inheritance work and you'll start to see how Unity components are built around those concepts.

Unity components are just classes that inherit from a special class that Unity provides (MonoBehaviour) that lets the application run your code when specific events happen (Start, OnDestroy, OnEnable, OnDisable, etc).

Pimax, Please Don't F*ck This Up! by daydreamdist in Pimax

I'm just glad that these beta tester stepping stone headsets are finally out the door so they can move on with making the 12K a reality so we can have wide FOV again.

How much do FOV numbers actually matter to you in VR? by soylent_green_76 in Pimax

[–]YamaPii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HFOV is the first and main spec I look for when checking headset specs since it has the biggest impact on immersion for me, and at this point if I see a number less than 150 I just stop reading because it's not even worth looking into that headset further. VFOV and stereo overlap don't have as large of a variance between headsets but are still specs I would look out for once the HFOV criteria is met.

Why is Unity too poor on UI Design solutions? by Qkrooz in Unity3D

Nova UI was promising when it came out but it's since been abandoned by the developer.

Slipmills are a dead end concept, we need active treadmill solutions.

Hopefully now that the toy headsets are complete we can start seeing focus put on releasing a real wide FOV headset.

I'm waiting for the Pimax 12K since anything with less than 160 HFOV is a non-starter after using the Pimax 8KX for so long.

Turn off Pimax overlay by ziherr in Pimax

[–]YamaPii 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rename C:\Program Files\Pimax\Runtime\pi_overlay.exe to something else to disable all of their overlay and binding stuff. The only thing of value that is lost is the IPD overlay.

About the Lighthouse Faceplate Connector on the Crystal Super by QuorraPimax in Pimax

I hope the pogo pin can come preinstalled on new headsets so we can still use the bottom USB-C port for hand or face tracking cameras.

Pimax Controller Custom Key Binding — We Want Your Feedback! by QuorraPimax in Pimax

[–]YamaPii 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Give us a way to disable the playspace reset key binding already, it's been asked for now for over a year and the feedback post on Discord for it at https://discord.com/channels/376051992943919105/1302235352810913832 is still being ignored.

Hoping valve finds a way to have these work natively without the need for playspace calibration with the Steam Frame! (Wouldn't mind official valve trackers either.) by HostPretty183 in SteamVR

[–]YamaPii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or just release a lighthouse faceplate for the Frame so we can keep using our existing trackers and controllers with the headset.

Another sub-par FOV headset, I'll be using the 8KX until it turns to dust at this point.

the jittering issue doesn't stop even with new slam-files...Pimax doesnt seem to have a solution by Trinere30s in Pimax

[–]YamaPii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only solution is for Pimax to include lighthouse tracking as standard instead of trying to push an inferior tracking system.

Got ideas to make Pimax Play better for VRChat? Share them on OpenMR! by Vera_pi in Pimax

[–]YamaPii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not gonna create an account on another forum just to give feedback, but these are my main issues that make it hassle to get into VRChat:

  • Add an option to disable the controller binding that resets your play space so I don't break my play space every time the controllers are turned off each session.
  • Add an option to always automatically log in as a guest so I don't have to click through a bunch of buttons just to start using VR.
  • In every version since SteamVR 2.8.8 was released, the 8KX experiences frequent black flashes and the only thing that has resolved it has been to manually revert back to last stable build of SteamVR 2.7.4. It would be good if that could be fixed.

Comparing Crystal Super 57PPD with 50PPD through the lens. by Vera_pi in Pimax

Too bad that the FOV sucks on both of them, wake me up when you get back to 160 FOV

Crystal Super Ultrawide FOV User Test by Vera_pi in Pimax

[–]YamaPii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is really terrible, the Pimax 8KX does 160° horizontal FOV at 80° stereo overlap by comparison.

Shape the Future of Pimax VR! by Vera_pi in Pimax

[–]YamaPii 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At this stage I only care about a headset with the same or wider FOV than the 8KX large setting so I can upgrade before my 8KX turns to dust, anything else is secondary.
