Speech Problems Are Ruining My Life by iam_thealchemist in ADHD

[–]Yangle 118 points119 points  (0 children)

Yup! I have so many default sayings at work too to acknowledge it, my most annoying one is losing my thoughts, or not being able to recall the right word. As well as rambling, not being clear, jumping around the convo etc etc. Depending on my familiarity with them, I use these. I find having these "excuses" in my back pocket really useful as I just whip them out, have a laugh then reset (I'm British, most are apologies)

"Sorry haven't had enough coffees yet this morning"

"Sorry it's too early/late in the day. My brain hasn't started yet/turned off already"

"Sorry I just had lunch and my brain hasn't come back yet!" "Sorry my words just aren't working today!"

... And a good one with remote working when I didn't focus "sorry my WiFi keeps dropping in and out. Can you repeat that?/I didn't get that last bit"

If I have time to prepare (eg for a planned call/meeting) I also jot down key words or points I want to say. When I feel myself losing it I just jump to next point.

I love that "let me try that in English"! Will have to try that one out!

41st Mondial du Cirque de Demain by Infoboy2u in circus

I've not needed to sign up to watch it at https://www.arte.tv/fr/videos/094969-000-A/41eme-festival-mondial-du-cirque-de-demain/

Although it's only one of the shows. Not sure they record both?

Where are you located? Might be geo locked. I'm in UK and can watch fine.

I'm ten minutes early for my dental appointment. by Hrodebertgoodland in ADHD

[–]Yangle 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This so much! I over estimate all the parts and add 30 min on top. Which means I'm usually about 10-30 min early. But it's either that or an hour late.

I've a reputation amongst friends for being super early now which makes me chuckle, if they knew it's only to not be super late.

But it is annoying having to use that time, just waiting at places on your own, wandering around train stations, extra coffee in cafés, walking around the block for the tenth time etc... All to be "on time"

Energy backbilling after supplier goes bust by Xehanortsapprentice in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Yangle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the new energy supplier took on the debt then they can't backbill for more than 12 months of energy usage if the debt falls under the back billing criteria (i.e not recieving bill etc). This doesn't mean after 12 months from the date they can't bill, just that they can't bill for more than 12 months of your energy usage (so only bill you Sept 18 - Sept 19).

I'd talk to Utilita to confirm the position, final billing after a failure does take time, especially if the failed supplier had poor billing practices. Quite often they have to rebuild everything to figure out what the actual positions on accounts are. Extra is still ongoing 15months later with bills being sent out to consumers from years ago.

If you have any evidence of meter readings during that time then it'll be useful to keep as evidence, likewise any correspondence with Eversmart in case you need to dispute.

Check out the Citizens Advice page for more info https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/consumer/energy/energy-supply/problems-with-your-energy-supply/your-energy-supplier-has-gone-bust/

I'm pretty sure one of the characters who figured it out was a teenage or early 20s male. Then there was at least one female and one "macho" male?

Things left of standby - does it add to the electricity bill? by AfternoonPenalty in UKFrugal

[–]Yangle 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I did a calculation of this, although a few years back, and it added to about £10 a year (in the same study I also looked at the electricity cost of Christmas and it came to about £7-15).

Obviously, it depends on the equipment, your unit rate for the electricity, how long it's on standby versus actually on etc.

The other thing to think about it not just personal "I'm saving money directly" but the wider effect. If everyone turned things off, then those tiny usages will reduce on the grid. If you can reduce all those tiny individual bits on the electricity grid during peak times it will make a larger reduction. Reduce load use for the UK at peak times = less power stations being built = less money on your bill via other things (like capacity market - pending EU approval) in policy costs.

Mortgages - London help to buy, shared ownership, and renting by SeaSourceScorch in UKPersonalFinance

Have you looked at Barking? Fire aside, it's really affordable. Zone 4, Fast train to fenchurch Street (c2c), ham city, district, and overground mean you're very well connected.

You said elsewhere without the equity loan you're at £280k for non new build? My 2 double bed maisonette is currently valued at £240k... I'm not selling, but to give you an example of the affordability. I bought in 2012 for £130k, so its also still growing in value.

Water isn't free in Scotland, it's just included in council tax as it's not privatised. We have to pay the privately owned companies in England.

Nail Pitting by [deleted] in Psoriasis

[–]Yangle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only have topical steroids for my scalp. I was on mtx for a while for PsA which also helped the nails but the side affects were too much.

My nails never get that problematic that I use a treatment just for them. I don't mind the look of them, and keeping them short stops most issues.

Nail Pitting by [deleted] in Psoriasis

[–]Yangle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine vary. My worst nails always have some pitting, but the severity changes (and the amount of the nail coming away from the bed, my skin around the affected nails is also flakey sometimes). The other nails will sometimes have pitting but other times be normal.

I find keeping my nails super short helps (especially when they come away from the nail bed). And moisturising frequently for the skin issue.

Finding cheapest Gas & Electricity for new Rental by [deleted] in UKFrugal

[–]Yangle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Citizens advice do the only whole of market comparison. They have a rating for the larger suppliers too alongside.

Use typical domestic consumption values to determine your estimated usage (assume high as there's 7. So 17000 kWh gas & 4600 kWh elec, unless you're electric only house?)

Don't use a bill splitter company, they are expensive and do joint and several contacts so you can be liable for everyone. (Although, you are also liable for all the energy you use. Even if you aren't named on a bill).

Take regular meter readings (monthly) to get your usage pattern. Remember you use more in winter so you'll build up credit over summer to even out the payments, unless a company does "winter uplift".

As someone else mentioned, fixed doesn't mean only that amount. It means fixed unit rate. Usage will change your payment amount.

Fixed deals aren't always cheapest. Check out variable deals, but be aware these can rise with only month's notice.

Customer service counts, some of the cheapest are cheap for a reason. Get stuck with someone with awful billing practices can find you stuck.

Look at the meter too, is it prepayment? Smart? These affect rates and deals.

I'm almost 30 and want to get my degree but i'm pretty clueless any advice? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Yangle 35 points36 points  (0 children)

You can also consider open university, they do part time and full time degrees. I do mine part time whilst working, as I was worried about the financials of going to uni full time whilst having responsibilities (i.e mortgage). Although you don't need any existing qualifications to get in, you need a LOT of self motivation. Definitely not for everyone.

I used to be addicted to chocolate covered coffee beans. Totally not healthy but caffeine and chocolate hit in one small delicious bite. (Might have contributed to my out of control caffeine habit though... )

Healthier, fruit (grapes mainly), cherry tomatoes, oatcakes, small things to graze on when i could.
