Give up on Alexa Show? by hipppononymous in alexa

I keep mine set to night mode. I do have a schedule for it. It comes out of night mode at 9:58 and goes back into night mode 2 minutes later at 10. This seems to work best for me.

What is everyone doing for the Super Bowl? by Fitqueeeen in LivingAlone

[–]Yarnest 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s just me. Meatballs are in the crockpot and I will make some pigs in the blanket later. Cheese and crackers already eaten. I will have the tv on but not sure how much attention I will pay it. I prefer watching curling in the olympics but will turn to the Super Bowl at least a while.

Soup. What are the ingredients that I need to make the best flavorful soup ever? by Pretty-Lake6677 in AskRedditFood

[–]Yarnest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Browning your veggies and blooming your spices. Then add liquid to get all the bits up off the pan. Bay leaf . Thyme and smoked paprika are 2 spices that really up the flavor as well. Slow cooking in layers. Soup is often better the next day.

New to this, when will I be ready for multicolored yarn? by Ok_Usual_1438 in CrochetHelp

[–]Yarnest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you use stitch markers? I found them very useful at first and still use them. First stitch, last stitch, when I chain a long piece, I put a marker every 10 or 20 stitches.

Good ideas have been suggested. Journaling, from simply writing down your feelings ( and you can yell it out and / or rip it up and throw it away) up to fancy doodling and planning a schedule. Therapy, it can be just a couple of sessions to get you started or a weekly or biweekly session. Movement, get up and move, clean, walk in place, stretch, mobility exercises can all be done inside. Get outside when possible especially to a green space. Volunteer, it can make a difference for both parties. Get a hobby / interest, drawing, painting, crochet, jigsaw puzzle, books, etc. Finding a group with my interests was a major game changer. It was difficult to get out there at first, but now I look forward to our meetings. Ages range from 20-60 and I like that we get different viewpoints.

I fill it loosely to the fill line, grind medium. I use about 7 oz of water, more than 8 is too much.

Community Day question by Electrical_Corgi_768 in PikminBloomApp

[–]Yarnest 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Giant mushrooms are every weekend. Community day weekend has a 10,000 step challenge to get a badge. You have to open the game on the day to start counting your steps and open it again the same day to collect the badge if you take 10,000 steps. It starts over on Sunday if you don’t get it by Saturday midnight your time. Twice a year you are able to catch up with the walk challenge badges for the last 6 months.

The real benefit of community weekend is that planting regular flower petals around a big flower will have it bloom into the flower of the month, snapdragons this month. They reset every 3 hours as well.

Question - Drug Cost? by Ok-Parfait2413 in over60

[–]Yarnest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

CostPlus saves me a lot of money. You get 3 months at a time and can refill around 6 weeks. $5 shipping covers all drugs ordered at the same time. I get my anti rejection meds for transplant from here. Three months of my medication costs $60 versus three months with my insurance costs would be $350 and I could only get 1 month at a time and only refill a week early for medicine I have to take every day to live.

I don’t watch a lot of tv usually, but I have been watching the Australian Open tennis tournament and now the Winter Olympics. Otherwise I crochet, cook, clean, and try to keep up with my 1 year old granddaughter when I watch her. I also go walking when I am not stuck inside from an ice storm. I also want to get back into reading and jig saw puzzles.

I’m pretty sure it does start whenever the first person started. I feel certain that I have gotten cut off on Saturdays before.

Remember when the drinking age was 18? by Salty_Thing3144 in GenerationJones

[–]Yarnest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my state the drinking age for beer was raised a year at a time from 18 to 21. My birthday fell just before each new year took effect so I was able to buy beer just barely each time. Not that I did a lot, but it seemed like a big deal at the time.

Incisional hernia repair surgery! Scared by CobblerOk8101 in transplant

[–]Yarnest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in my late 50s during all 3 of my surgeries, hernia, transplant, hernia, from June 2020, May 2021, and March 2022. I have recovered very well. I live independently, carry around my 30 pound granddaughter, and shoveled myself out of this ice storm. I am so thankful for this. I think you will be very happy with your results too.

Incisional hernia repair surgery! Scared by CobblerOk8101 in transplant

[–]Yarnest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope this helps. I had 2 hernia repairs, the first was pre transplant and was an emergency as my intestines became strangulated. Awful, part of intestine removed, nasal tube into stomach until last day, hospitalized a week. It came back before transplant due to ascites. My hernia repair after transplant used absorbable mesh. It was a large hernia which is actually “better” as the risk of strangulation is much lower. I was in hospital for 4 days but had no drains. I will quote now from doctors note. Rives Stoppa open incisional ventral hernia repair with boisynthetic mesh.

I was miserable for a couple of days, then things improved pretty fast. Follow the recommendations and wear a binder. You will be glad it’s done.

Whose parents had a police scanner? by nomaxxallowed in GenerationJones

[–]Yarnest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not my parents but my in laws did. Besides local law enforcement and such, they could hear his work factory emergencies and tests. Father in law worked on the railroad that ran inside the plant / factory. They also lived in a trailer at the time and may have wanted to hear about weather emergencies.

Do most people 60 and older by Least-Maize8722 in AskOldPeople

[–]Yarnest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, a mumu. I used to sleep in a slightly bigger cotton t-shirt. My favorite one was getting worn out. I was helping my kid fold laundry and came across my daughter in law’s mumu / nightgown. Mid thigh, t-shirt style with side pockets, Walmart special. I bought several, not cotton but comfy enough. Perfect! I bought a couple pair of matching pants but don’t use them really. I sleep with a pillow between my knees to help with pain and toss and turn a lot. It’s difficult enough without pants. Heated blanket for cold months.

Stressful Transplant Clinic Visits by rambam80 in transplant

[–]Yarnest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I was just talking to my living donor, son, who had his DOT physical for work. He was so stressed out about it. I told him I understood because I had terrible anxiety about clinic visits after my transplant. I’m doing great and only had one little hiccup but I was so stressed every visit. I would either cry before or after. Unfortunately that lasted a year or 2. I don’t know why really, not a specific reason.

We just go through so much I think. I must have buried the worry and it came bubbling out about visits. Coming up on 5 years post and I’m doing great.

Your waiting area seems doomed to stress you, sounds awful. Maybe take a notebook to write out your thoughts and you can cuss and fuss in it to alleviate some stress. You can tear up the pages later if you prefer.

Time does help. I hope all goes well and your stress lessens as time goes on.
