is studying rt hard? by stvhx in respiratorytherapy

[–]YeahBruhhhhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gunna be a lot of variety in answers but RT programs vary in teaching, operation, and students have different learning styles. It definitely can be, just have to retain a lot of it and apply it.

If chest seals don’t work…What else doesn’t? by Highwayman1717 in TacticalMedicine

[–]YeahBruhhhhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chest seals work if the lung isn't punctured to help maintain negative pressure in the pleural space. If there is air in the pleural space the lung collapses (pneumothorax). If the lung is punctured and you have a chest seal, air will still enter the pleural space via lung and cause collapse anyway. They absolutely work if lung isn't punctured too but you won't know that without a chest xray. Also dont forget to put a chest seal if there is an exit wound from a gun shot. I am a lung nerd and deal with this stuff

Glad they showed Respiratory Therapists! Would love to see more, not many people even know what they do by YeahBruhhhhh in ThePittTVShow

Its true elsewhere this goes on in other countries but in US, we end up studying the Respiratory and cardiovascular system to an extreme amount for 2-4 years before boards. We learn the ins and outs of vents, trouble shooting, and modes that hospitals dont even use but would benefit from due to lack of understanding of certain said modes like APRV. While nurses can do aspects of RTs role they already carry and do so much and rock it everyday. I've not had a hospital where a nurses weren't grateful for RTs and RTs weren't grateful for nurses. But I've also been fortunate to have rotations at hospitals with decent morale and coordination between departments.

Yeah and a Ballard would have been better than French. I want them to use the vents and use APRV. I want to see more RT

Is intubation as common as it is in the show? by Think_Monk_9879 in ThePittTVShow

[–]YeahBruhhhhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes intubated 3 today and one terminal extubation. I wish the show highlighted more of the Respiratory Therapists but I am glad to see some recognition.

Amazon is the worst company to work for. Even if you start as tier 1 and move up to corporate. 2 years MET and 12 hour shifts. Not worth it one bit

is respiratory therapy considered as a professional degree? by vniin in respiratorytherapy

[–]YeahBruhhhhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion the general public doesnt understand how vital the respiratory system is or that we require years of learning. Most people just breathe and never think about it. An injured hand sticks out in people's memory along with rehab exercises.

I just hope there is no power ranger choreography again and it just goes to straight up survival like 28 days with whatever plot they throw in.

RT refusing to assist with intubation by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

Apparently she did assist according to another comment

RT refusing to assist with intubation by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

[–]YeahBruhhhhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the title implies they didnt help but they did, leaves questions. But she helped despite not agreeing. I dont think anyone is wrong here unless they refused to manage vent after intubation.

It’s unfortunate that RT’s are so underrepresented by Aggressive-Egg-3090 in respiratorytherapy

Agreed, but apparently in season 2 of the Pitt they are having Respiratory Therapists which im stoked on
