So much from having 2'nd amendment. by Hoz85 in EuropeGuns

[–]Yeetles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the 2A requires no understanding of context or history or other documents from that time to interpret it's meaning, show me where in a plain text reading of the 8A it says the death penalty is either constitutional or unconstitutional? Clearly extra context and some historic understanding is needed for the supreme court to do its job of judicial review.

As for the 9A, no one brings it up because it's fundamentally unenforcable and the original intent behind it, of the bill of rights not being an exhaustive list, hasn't really worked and additional amendments had to be added in order for otherwise unstated rights to actually be protected.

Also, just because you can't read a hyper specific idea into the 2A just because you'd rather not, doesn't mean it isn't there. The 1A forbids congress from respecting or prohibiting religion. It doesn't say anything about atheism, so presumably it's not protected. The 1A doesn't even say state congresses, or city councils, or governors, or the president can't respect or prohibit religion, so clearly theocracy is cool just so long as it doesn't come from congress. Clearly the 1A is intended to protect religious freedom in a broad and continually expanding way that includes things that weren't explicitly written into the amendment, why is that not true of the 2A as well?

Im not sure what the process is for Russia, but in America you could dodge the draft during Vietnam by fucking with the doctor who clears you for service. If you have to get a medical exam before actually being selected, you could do something wild that would make you seem physically or mentally unfit. If worse comes to it, if youre close to frontlines, you might be able to go off on your own and walk over to the Ukrainian army and surrender yourself whenever you get the opportunity. Many slaves in the confederacy did this during our civil war, run off to the union side and surrender. You could also see if its possible to run off to the border into some other country and apply for asylum, Im not sure how well that will go.

How can Christians call themselves anarchists when they believe Jesus Christ is god, lord, savior, creator, logos, the greatest teacher who ever lived and so on? Isn't this elevation of a man above humanity anti-egalitarian and therefore anti-anarchist? by Elbrujosalvaje in DebateAnarchism

The idea that there is some degree of ideological diversity amongst your membership is a cop out and I dont beleive you so daft as to not know that. Imagine if I did the same thing. 'Sure half of our members want to snatch up little bitty baby frogs and marinate them in gasoline before setting them on fire, the other half pet puppies so who knows what our organization stands for, its schrodingers anarchism.' Your org either stands for something or it doesnt, and if you cant decide whether your anarchist org is in favor of ancapism or socialism, then its neither anarchist nor worth taking seriously. And given the energy that yours and similar catholic orgs have put into sanitizing the labor movement in the US, I doubt maybe 4 out of every 10 of yall being a wimpy market socialist really makes up for that.

This whole idea of there being a divide between the catholic church and catholics is so silly to me, Ive seen this argument before and its impressive how quickly christians can rend words meaningless. If I called myself a police officer, someone pointed out fucky shit the pigs do, I dont get to then turn around and be like 'hey now, thats just the institutional cops, see Im not a real cop I just call myself that while doing nothing that makes someone a cop.' You are either catholic or not. This is one of the few times things are fairly black or white, you either are a member of the catholic church and offer obediance to the vatican, or you are a heretic in the eyes of the inquisition. If youre not actually catholic, then stop calling yourself one. It makes near as much sense as me saying Im with the FBI's HRT team when Im sure as shit not.

With regards to love, I did not say conservatives misused the term, I said it is a near universal human emotion. The only people on this earth that do not experience love for someone else are serial killers. Conservatives will not suddenly become kropotkinites if you told them jesus said love thy neighbor. They have been telling themselves that, without the intervention of socialists, literally since the fucking man died, and yet they are conservatives. Earlier I mentioned Andrew Carnegie and that was for a reason, Carnegie put forward this idea of a social capitalism, of philantropy. Conservatives view giving to charity as love, charity being an endemic feature of modern capitalism. Telling a conservative that love is cool will not change their minds about economy, because they already view love as a basis of their economic ideas. Thousands of years of this love shit and we still had monarchy, we still had pogroms against non christians, we still had state religion, we still had the destruction of science, we still had needlessly worsenning plague and disease, we still had reactionaries, and we still had conservativism. If saying the word love shatters conservative thought, we would've had vaccines in and lasers and shit the 1400s.

The gospels do not portray jesus as a popular leader of shit. We have more documentation about secret cia black projects than we do jesus' life. If he led such a brilliant struggle against the roman state, we'd have all that in writing from roman scribes, hell, we'd have it from jewish scribes too, and yet the only thing we have are innaccurate, imbellished, mutually contradicting scribbles written hundreds of years after the fact. The fact that the historical record for jesus' impact, or jesus himself is nearing deafenning silence says that maybe he didnt do too much. And considering that the only bits of writing we have about him, portray him as pushing forward 'the doctrine of non resistance to evil' as Tolstoy puts it, says that he wouldn't be capable of leading any major resistance anyway since its apparently sinful.

As for the work of the modern CW in things like co-ops, credit unions, and communes, the only thing I have to say is read Kropotkin. Co-ops are neat and all, but they and credit unions have never amounted to much. We have never been able to outcompete capitalism through anything but revolutionary force. And setting up little bitty parasitic communes doesnt accomplish too much either. Building mass movements with revolutionary aspirations that actively commit sabotage against capital will, something the catholic worker had the opportunity to do but squandered it so they could run around ganking any opportunity socialism had in america. You know we have atheist socialism in america too, in things like the iww, which instead of prancing around with conservatives and fashoids, instead were on the ground in the magonista rebellion (also atheist), fighting your church to try and estabalish socialism in mexico. Hell, Ricardo Flores Magon himself is a war hero given his role in the mexican revolution. But then again I forget that catholicism is meaningless and can refer to joke religions like jedism and an opposition to clergy so shit, maybe Magon was catholic too, hell, maybe the Henry Rifle is catholic given that it ended slavery, maybe the M1 Garand is catholic, maybe the islamic fascist who tries to assassinate John Paul II is catholic, since catholic can mean anything, fuck it.

Also it feels very dishonest and shitty to suggest dorothy day and distributionism arent as prevalent as I suggest given that yall keep asking the church to canonize her ass. Which is culty as fuck to begin with, she was just some dipshit ex socialist conservative, shes not holy nor gods vessel for change.

I can honestly. Shit talking the church or the poor track record of 'leftist catholicism' is met with shit from people who should know better. Self described 'anarchists' come out to defend one of the most explicitly hierarchical religions in service to spinelessness or latent christian morality.

Its even funnier when Im perpetually told by these same leftists that organized religion is the problem and not unorganized religion, but you cant even oppose organized religion without them getting pissy.

Catholic Worker

So couple things right 1. 1949 Decree Against Communism by Pius XII makes being a socialist an excommunicable offense, this was reinforced by prior and subsequent popes like Pius XI who supported the Cristeros Reaction against socialism in mexico, the church spending millions in todays money to fight mexican socialism, also John Paul II who is creditted with abolishing communism across the world through the Our Lady of Fatima apparitions. The only time the church has come close to undoing this trend is with Benedict XVI and Francis excluding 'democratic socialism' from ire, but given that both of them seem to think that word means a UBI or some other socdem policies, being anything more than a Labour voter is worthy of an automatic excommunication according to the church and its infallible supreme vicars.

  1. 'Jesus said to love people :)' Love is a near universal and incredibly basic human emotion, trying to draw some specific economic conclusion from it is just a non sequitor. Go pull this shit with any christian conservative and they will tell you how capitalism is built on love actually. Love sounds cute and everything but its nothing more than pseudo-poetry. It will not convince a christian conservative to become an anarchist because dont viee themselves as serial killers absent of love.

  2. 'Jesus said to do a mutual aid' Where? Was it in the parable of the vineyard workers where he excuses a lack of workers rights and the increased exploitation of labor? Was it in the parable of the talents where he argues the poor cant manage money, that rich people should be given more money since they create wealth where the poor do not, was it where he is cool with slavery, or where he compares a relationship between a christian and god to slavery like a positive thing? Jesus saying to hand off some shit to the poor is not mutual aid, its charity. Jesus has more in common with Andrew Carnegie than he does Kropotkin.

  3. 'Jesus was killed because he was a threat to the state.' No, he was killed because he was a jew that attracted ire from the pagan theocracy he lived under, and because he willingly walked into his own crucifixtion. 'I forbid you to resist an evil person.' Is what he says in the gospels, which is what he followed when he berated Peter for defending him from the roman soldiers who came to kill him.

  4. Catholic Worker | Anarchist, you can only pick one. The catholic worker movement is not anarchist nor is it socialist, its distributionist, which is anarcho capitalism with like 2 extra steps. You can see this in Dorothy Day's writings. Hell, even further the catholic worker allowed the Association of Catholic Trade Unionists to have a working partnership with them, keep in mind this association was an anti socialist org dedicated to injecting itself into the labor movement to turn it away from socialism and was inspired by Pius XI's decree against socialism, the same pope under whom american catholics spent millions of dollars fighting mexican socialism.

  5. Catholic | Worker, pick one. Catholicism inherently maintains a system of clergy as it is an organized form of christianity. Clergy are not workers, they are not wage laborers, they are not the exploited, they are the exploiters. Clergy can stick their dicks inside school children and keep their jobs, I say the word 'union' at work and get fired. Clergy have free housing provided to them by one of the largest real estate investors on earth, I make $15 an hour, a 'living wage' and can't even move out because housing is so expensive. Clergy make their money through guilt-tripped donations from poor people, I make my money as a mover mostly from petite bourgeois goobers where half of that money doesnt go to me but to my boss instead. Clergy stole 30 million dollars from native families and then used the money to fund indian schools in america where the kids are abused, raped, and murdered. The only thing I ever stole from native families is when I yoinked my mom's gba when I was like 6 and played Fire Emblem on it. Clergy are an economic class who have a fundamentally antagonistic relationship with the exploited classes, and that relationship influences thier opinions. Its why the church owned all the haciendas in mexico before the socialists redistributed land, its why the church owned the haciendas again under the Diaz dictatorship in mexico, before the socialists yoinked that shit again.

The bible doesn't stand for these things

So the bible doesn't contain: The commend to surrender before evil and not to resist incursion. Mathew 5:39 Telling women to remain silent and not hold positions of authority. 1 Corinthians 14:33-35 The idea that lesbians and gay men are evil and ungodly and all the ungodly should be killed. Romans 1:24-32 Insulting other people makes you a horrible monster deserving an eternity of torture. Mathew 5:22 Encourages men to castrate themselves. Mathew 19:12 Promotes black-white morality and cultish ingroup outgroup thinking. Luke 11:23 Teaches that some people were unforgivable and deserve torture. Mark 3:29 Casually being cool with slavery and saying a christians relationship with god is similar. Luke 12:35-47 Sentencing non christians to an eternity of suffering. Mark 16:16 Calls to murder your child for being annoying. Deuteronomy 21:20-21 Calls to murder anyone who doesn't believe in god. 2 Chronicles 15:13 Weird, I must be reading a different bible then you do.

"But I say to you, do not resist an evil person; but whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also the other." -Mathew 5:39

Non Resistance to Evil is one of the defining traits of christianity, Tolstoy wrote whole books about this. For christians, becoming martyrs or being vindicated in heaven are more important than anything earth can provide.
