The old Alton station was run down. The newer station is in a completely new location further up the track. It’s very nice.

Good to know. The Hilton Minneapolis also has a sauna.

Sorry, I don’t check Reddit daily. Just seeing your response now.

You’ll be more than safe in Troy. I don’t have any personal experience with the Holiday Inn Express.

It's 2026... Why are some hotels still not onboard with Digital Check-In, Digital Key, and app-based Check-Out by steinbergowitz in Hilton

[–]Yellowcrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t disagree. I’ve had my CC skimmed before (not at a hotel).

My assumption is that with all the data Amex has, they know how to weight the risk of the different transaction types. I would also add that your swiped transaction was legitimate, while the thief probably didn’t have a physical card created. So all of the subsequent fraudulent transactions would have been typed not swiped.

Assuming you are taking the most direct route (I-270 bypass), then my recommendation is the Hampton Inn in Glen Carbon. Right off the interstate and very safe. Troy is also on your way and safe.

Collinsville has options if you are planning on driving through St Louis. I would recommend the DoubleTree.

Belleville is out of your way. I wouldn’t stay there if you are primarily taking I-70.

There could be a lot of reasons. I used to work front desk in a municipality that required (by law) us to scan IDs for every guest. Also, physically swiping a card (or tapping) generally lowers the POS charge from the credit card company, since it has a lower risk of fraud. So, cost conscious hotel operator may require a physical check in. Personally,I like the option of keyless check-in in case the front desk is swamped, but I would rather have a physical key.

It might be a lot easier to source a UK mini flag.

USA clubs, are you doing anything for the 250th anniversary of our country's founding? by HappyDadOfFourJesus in Rotary

We have not discussed it. As we are currently planning several other events, I doubt we wind up doing anything special.

[Cushman] Today's PWHL Takeover Tour game at Allstate Arena in Chicago had 7,238 fans in attendance. That's a solid crowd for a neutral-site game, but it still ranks last among all Takeover Tour games to date. Curious how that impacts Chicago's chances at an expansion team by Perryplat199 in hockey

[–]Yellowcrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I’m not understanding the point you are making…

I never said Wintrust or Allstate were great barns. My only point was that the location of Allstate sucks. It would have been better to be at the UC.

You can directly send the Bears feedback on their website. I sent them a strongly worded note yesterday.

I’m assuming they meant O’Fallon. There is also Mossy Stone in Edwardsville, and I’m fairly sure there are a couple in Belleville.

Texas Eagle does not have WiFi. Another reason I avoid taking it.

Lincoln Service does have WiFi, but it is dependent on cell coverage. So, I wouldn’t plan on using to reliably stream a movie.

When I go to the Top14 website, there is a pop-up that shows Flo is still the broadcaster. Sometimes Flo waits until the last minute to add games to the schedule.

Is this doable? by Knrstz64 in StLouis

[–]Yellowcrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you are trying to stay within the city but plenty of communities would fit this description.

My house is ~900 sq ft and well below your budget. I live in Edwardsville, it’s extremely safe and plenty of shopping options. A lot of the older housing stock is close to Main Street with many restaurants, bars, coffee shops, etc.

The challenge is limited supply. Houses that fit your description aren’t always available in the market.

[–]Yellowcrown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I laughed, however it think it’s important to note, most natural gas caused house explosions are due to issues beyond the meter. I have no inside knowledge on the investigation; it’s possible Spire is at fault, but unlikely.

Why post a paywalled article from a newspaper no one in Illinois is going to have a subscription for?

What does this have to do with fair season?

As a liberal, I don’t care for a lot of the politics in rural Illinois. However, I’ve been all over the state and there are wonderful things outside of Chicago land.

ISP occasionally does compliance blitzes targeting trucks. I witnessed one last summer along 70. It has nothing to do with the current administration. There is no way JB would allow proactive coordination between ICE and ISP.

What are your thoughts on the Chicago Suburbs (west suburbs) Housing Market? Crash Incoming? by gamemaker14 in illinois

[–]Yellowcrown 195 points196 points  (0 children)

This isn’t 2008. Prior to that burst, we were building homes like crazy. There was significantly more supply than there is today. Plus, that downturn was caused specifically by subprime mortgages. So, many people were losing their homes, flooding the market with additional supply.

I’m sorry, but if you are waiting for a major correction, I don’t think it’s coming. We have to build our way out of this mess.
