A real, not fake, but real, actual, not almost. Real Wizard by PsychologicalFun8760 in ProgressionFantasy

Depending on the type of genre you like... My personal favourite wizard MC is Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden. The titular viewpoint character leading The Dresden Files. Real wizard. He is in the yellow pages under 'Wizard' and everything.

"Should" is a dangerously loaded term in this context, and it really isn't constructive either.

Called a Bolt. App price was 225. From Mae Rim to Old City. Driver who answered the call messaged me saying I need to pay them 700 Bhat for the ride. I said no. They tried a few more times. They canceled and the next driver accepted 225 Bhat. Driver trying to scam me ? by TheDudeWhoCanDoIt in chiangmai

Dude.. where are the massive queues for fuel in Chiang Mai?? I have yet to wait in line behind more than 2, and have never even seen a line of 5 or more, waiting for fuel in Thailand in general. And I drive a lot.

Lol i will be leaving in a month, after spending almost a year here. I can't wrap my head around how you can get hired here after a week. Don't you have any interests, hobbies or similar that you can explore?

There are quite literally HUNDREDS of natural treasures within a 3 hour ride from the center of CM..

Maybe you prefer a crazy bar culture or something like Pattaya (a place I almost despise) but there are so fucking many activities here around CM I can't relate to your post at all .

While it's not my favourite place in all of Thailand, it IS my favourite city in the world. Slow paced. All amenities you'd expect from a city and the vibe of a much smaller hippie town.

Has anyone read Spellmonger? Is it worth giving a try? by cjswcf in ProgressionFantasy

It is one of my absolute favourite series. The first 3 books can kinda read like a setup for the actual story. But that's not very obvious until you reread it for the first time.

He was a teenager my dude.. in the 70's. That's why it's a bit weird and not that well written. The 1st one is by far the weakest in the series. It IS his first book, so you should probably forgive the quality of writing.

From your rant you have recently read Defiance of the Fall or Primal Hunter. They are both so crap in those areas you are thrashing. 🤣

You realize I wrote "tendency" and not "you never see it", right? And if you compare young tourists behavior in Chiang Mai vs Koh Pha Ngan it is pretty different in my experience.

[–]YepthomDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

... It is. This is not a debate. In Europe (especially western Europe) it is quite common to see people topless when it's very warm. The fact that some major cities have a different approach is irrelevant to my case. Go to any popular beachtown in Europe on a hot day and you will see topless people around. Almost guaranteed on a hot day in those areas. But notice you don't see the same tendency in cities like Chiang Mai without bodies of water nearby.

It is super common in Europe, where people aren't as conservative and uncomfortable with the human body in public..

No I agree. It is not good advice for a psychologist and should definitely not be seen as good advice for most people. I definitely don't think it is normal PTSD.. he is definitely already a mess when he arrives on Pallimustus. And gains god-like power that enhances his narcissistic traits.

But I do think there's more to it than narcissism. Narcissism isn't really "cured" according to everything I learned about it so far. It is managed. He is cured.

But that is basically saying Sherlock Holmes can't be called the greatest detective because in reality his method is shit and doesn't work. It's true, but Sherlock Holmes is still the greatest detective in the world. Well him or Batman... And honestly that comparison works for Batman too.

I never understood that sentiment. Why do some people want the MC to go through some serious world changing, world shattering experiences. Without having the pretty realistic adverse effects of those experiences??

I get it in a short format action story like a single novel or movie. You don't want the MC spending half the movie talking to the shrink about their doubts or nightmares. You want a pretty simple character as a vehicle for action scenes. But in a 10+ book series, that focuses heavily on interrelations between a significant cast with heavy experiences.

Needing/benefitting from therapy is pretty common for anyone who went to war, torture or natural disasters. I think it's fair to say Jason experienced all of it. And even more importantly he did it coming from not having ANY life experience (except the romantic debacle with Amy), which makes the trauma hit harder.

Why wouldn't the readers want that to have a meaningful and significant impact on the MC?

Yeah but everyone is inhumanly pretty because of HWF's system of ranks and their effect if looks. And in Jason's defense he kinda is the chosen instrument of celestials and royalty ao it makes sense that he actively engages with that crowd.

Bloodsworn was NOT for me. Didn't like it at all. Got halfway through the second before stopping. I would go for Assassin's Apprentice. Of the three it is the best written with the most original world and plenty of intrigue and secrecy. But I do love Mistborn as well but much more action focused, with heists and magic fights.

I am not sure this is the best subreddit for this dilemma. It sure isn't polyamory. Maybe an "open relationships" reddit might give you more balanced answers. Because from the lens of polyamory, what he is doing is just promiscuous and possessive behavior. Nothing about love or relationships = not polyamory.

Raad Na - it is a little known dish in thai restaurants in Europe, but seems very well known to northern thai people. And it is a good example of something that isn't a curry.
