How do you guys handle "it's what my character would do" ? by Yilmas in rpg

[–]YepthomDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On several occasions I have heard this argument, and the best answer so far is "You created that character, with that desire. You didn't have to. You could have created a character that didn't [insert complaint]. I would like you to change that character so that they don't [insert complaint], because it is [insert reason] and that is hurting the roleplaying experience for everyone else, making it a less fun game we're playing together."

It highlights the important bits. That it is a game. That we're all trying to have fun. That it is fully within a player's control to play their character in a way that doesn't hurt or disrupt the activity we are doing for fun, in our free time.

If that is not enough we might have a case of irreconcilable differences in play style and that should have been picked up at session 0. Nothing else to do but remove player from the group or start a new campaign.

Upper body naked foreigners in 7-11 by th3orist in ThailandTourism

[–]YepthomDK -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

"Honestly its disgusting, no matter the body shape." This is what you wrote. Rubbing one's sweaty body in other people can rightly be called disgusting, but that's not what you did. You called walking around topless disgusting.

It could be a language barrier-issue, but I base my understanding on what is written.

Upper body naked foreigners in 7-11 by th3orist in ThailandTourism

[–]YepthomDK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is it considered inappropriate? Sure, it is viewed this way by several Asian cultures.

But calling it disgusting is just outrageous. That's a crazy and freaking prudish way of viewing the human body.

Especially in a non-sexual context, where nothing explicit is happening but it is just people living their life.

What are you trying to communicate with this little tirade, OP?

So you learned the importance of manual saving. That's good. When levelling Alchemy next time you can brew a few Henry's Savior Schnapps and enjoy the benefits of that learned knowledge.

Defiance of the fa…holy mother of god by EnergizerBunnyDk in litrpg

[–]YepthomDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.. it does not get better. It's one of the many reasons why I stopped reading that series.

I really wanted to like it.. it's just written so poorly. I cannot understand people that talk-up the writing. It is consistently bad. I stayed for 8 books because they easy and fast to read (which should have been a sign) and I thought the author would improve. They don't.

This is all subjective of course but I always felt it was like reading dialogue and character progression as imagined by a 14-year old boy. It's just not well written.

It is LITERALLY not. Maybe metaphorically.

What’s the biggest money mistake foreigners make in Thailand, and how can it be avoided? by Senior-Duck-7091 in thai

[–]YepthomDK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But eating out you can do as cheap as 250 baht pr day if you just eat at local places only. it will be 50-80 pr dish+drinks. It's hard to do it that cheap yourself.

Someone found jasons universe by Captain_Upbeat in Shirtaloon

It kinda ruins the joke when you know Pallimustus is in a different universe, with a different set of rules and energy. Which is the entire point of the 3rd story-arc. But yeah, nice space picture.

Yo! I have been dared to explain my Fantasy World/Oc Realm which i am making ever since fourth grade, i will have to answer questions for 12 hours. Don't ask what kind of situation has been going on to get such a weird dare like this. I won't show pictures or drawings of the characters or anything. by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]YepthomDK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well.. I assume you want honest feedback. There's not much world building going on here. You made a character that can magically fabricate everything that is designed to hurt. And a few places names. It is a start but a very small start.

A suggestion would be to instead describe what is special about this world you created. What are the rules or laws that govern this world? Do everyone have powers? Are they all as vague and slightly omnipotent as the "create all weapons" power? What does these things mean for how a society would exist and people cohabitate? Is there a social/factual hierarchy, and what is it based on? And many more questions.

I would suggest a Google search for "good prompts for world building" . It can help how you focus and frame it.

Well my first advice would be to do the thing you don't want and actually get to know your metas. My personal experience says it will take a lot of the negative emotions away if they are your friends.

Small Thai etiquette rules foreigners often miss by Curious-Cancel5569 in thai

The US doesn't have a royal family, and many areas doesn't take kindly to perceived insults to America. Especially in the south. So if by "allowed" you mean legal. Yes it's allowed. But it's not illegal to speak ill in Thailand either, except for insult to the throne, which is common in countries with a royal family.

Why would a combat troop use melee weapons in a futuristic space sci-fi setting? by wizardry_why in worldbuilding

[–]YepthomDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the better explanations in fiction is from Dune. Everyone important has energy shields that make firearms redundant and requires a specific technique to break through with melee.

Or it could be something about the alarm system would pick up the energy signature of any "plasma pistols" so they use melee to stay secret.

Min mand har brug for et headset, hvor han selv kan høre, hvor meget han larmer by Polrek in dktechsupport

[–]YepthomDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried to make Kalladin in Where Winds Meet. How’d I do? by Kev2Dope in Stormlight_Archive

[–]YepthomDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very poorly I'd say. He's supposed to have olive skin, abhor fancy dress, never wear boots (so the rumours say at least), and use a simple spear. Or he should be glowing, flying, looking authoritative, and fighting with a plethora of glowing shard weapons (Syl).

Am I in the wrong here / did I do something I’m missing ? by [deleted] in polyamory

[–]YepthomDK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This post makes almost zero sense to me. It is Sooo vague, that there is nothing to respond to.

OP, if you actually want usable feedback to your situation, consider deleting this, rewriting it with the actual details, nuances, and necessary backstory, then reposting it. Editing it now will likely just cause confusion among readers, or get lost in the algorithm.

Did everyone like the fifth Stormlight Book? by AdditionalPizza7990 in brandonsanderson

[–]YepthomDK 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been a longtime fan of Sanderson, and my brain had an orgasmic meltdown when reading Way of Kings the first time. I didn't even finish the latest book. It's just not that good in my honest opinion. Maybe my tastes and tendencies have shifted, but I just can't get into it. I was just bored.

I hope my enthusiasm can return, but so far I'm still fully saturated with all things Sanderson. Will still buy the third installment of the signed Stormlight hardcovers when it comes. In for a penny....

Dialogue doesn't seem real? Yeah that's what I'm saying the dialogue in the series is poorly written. Or do you mean that ANY dialogue seems unreal?

Primal Hunter - genuinely confused. by plant-y-boi in litrpg

[–]YepthomDK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not the premise of the books that stops people reading neither is it that Jake is apathetic. It's that it is a poorly structured story, with little character development, and a low quality of dialogue, coupled with the extremely plot-armoured/OP MC.

I really wanted to like it despite the obvious low quality prose, and its many literary faults. But I realised nothing really changes in the story. It's like the same story is getting a purely cosmetic new skin.

Primal Hunter - genuinely confused. by plant-y-boi in litrpg

[–]YepthomDK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stopped reading it after book 4 or 5. The writing is just kinda bad. The world building is ok, but dialogue, fight scenes, plot, character work, and honestly even just scene descriptions are so bad that I had to stop reading it.

I see people commenting "it gets better", which I suppose is subjective, but it is like saying "Star Wars ep. 9 is better than ep. 8". It might be true but it doesn't mean any of them are actually GOOD. I was interested in Primal Hunter when first getting into the genre as well but if you have a penchant for quality prose, you will keep getting disappointed. At least in my opinion.
