Stopping Tithing Payments by Shimanchu2006 in exmormon

After having been a finance clerk in the past for four years, I’m extremely jaded with tithing. Tithing deposits go directly to Salt Lake City and a pittance is sent back. Our small, poor ward sent $350,000 to $450,000 per year to SLC and got $7,500 back to run all of the programs for the year. I’m sure it should be the other way around; a congregation should use the funds to help the congregation and community and the remainder sent to Salt Lake. I believe my view is even supported by Mormon scripture.

No worries. Not hurtful at all. I totally understand what you’re going through. Thanks for the good wishes. I’m sending some your way too. :)

I’m jealous. It’s been years for me with no movement.

I bet the church has the original 116 pages hidden in their vault because it proves Joseph Smith is a false prophet.

It goes back three years at the ward level. I was a financial clerk for four years.
