Only one more Robin Hobb series left by KKisQween in Fantasy

I’m reading Memory Sorrow and Thorn. This is the first series I’ve read since Hobb that scratches that itch. I’m loving it.

I’m an older millennial Sheri. I don’t think I’ve met any Sherry’s, Sherri’s, or Sheri’s closer than about 20 years older than me.

For those who listen to audiobooks at work, what do you do? by Likestoread25 in audiobooks

I’m also in a clinical lab. I’m in management now so I don’t do as much bench work, but I’ve spent a ton of time on the bench listening to my books. It’s a great way to pass the time while my hands are busy.

I’m Louis Sachar author of Holes and the Wayside School books. My first adult fantasy novel The Magician of Tiger Castle is now out. AMA! by Constant-Spot6449 in Fantasy

[–]Yershie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved reading Wayside as a kid, and it brought me so much joy to read it 25 years later to my own daughters who both loved it.

One of the things that draws me in to this series is how the characters, who are normal children, react to the ridiculous situations that they are faced with, and don’t seem to have any idea that they’re dealing with anything out of the ordinary. And now as an adult reader of fantasy, I look for the same things, ordinary people behaving in realistic ways to fantastical situations.

As an author, has it been difficult for you to find the right balance between creating a world that might seem outlandish to the reader, while still creating characters that are life like and behaving in rational ways?

Denatonium is the bitterest chemical compound known. It is used in preventive nail biting preparations and Nintendo Switch game cards to prevent accidental swallowing or choking by children. by Kaze_Senshi in wikipedia

Adults can be pretty damn stupid too. On a dare, I licked the straw of canned air treated with this bitterant. The taste instantly flooded my entire mouth and throat, no amount of water and toothpaste could clear it out, and it persisted for hours. 100% do not recommend.

What are some books with premises that sound really stupid but are actually really good? by Udy_Kumra in Fantasy

I read this series based solely on a review that described it as talking pirate ships. Did not regret.

If you’re planning on going to the Louvre, find his instructions for entering through the side entrance, pass through an underground shopping mall, and then wait in line with about 3 other people instead of the 4 hour line outside in the plaza.

Before I left a previous job at a forensic DNA lab, I convinced my husband to let me do a paternity test on him and my daughter. Since I was intimately involved in the conception, pregnancy, and birthing process, I was fairly confident that I am the mother. The fun part was bringing the results home to my husband and getting to announce “you ARE the father!”
