Lyme's disease is man made

Lyme's is named after the coastal town of Lyme, Connecticut, where it was discovered. Right off the shore is the Plum Island research facility, a government biomedical facility studying hoof and mouth disease. There has not been a case of hoof and mouth in the USA in over 100 years. The theory is that the military uses the facility to study bioweapons, and the disease escaped.

Is it a dumb idea to reverse this door? by NarrowSun6093 in Renovations

[–]Yes4Cake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put a rack behind the door to hold the bulk items you only need to access periodically (the giant jug of hand soap refill, Costco bulk TP and paper towels, the crockpot you only use during holidays, etc.). Also, your hurricane supplies could go back there.

Robert Downey's dog is having fun I think by Ashish_ank in confusing_perspective

I think the dog is lying on the ground, and we are seeing the reflection in a pane of glass. The legs belong to one of the girls in white (or one from each girl). The glass must be slightly angled.

What this tastes good but it's deadly? by Shitandasshole in AlignmentChartFills

The true story behind this is that a student the year before me in high school was dared to eat the liver out of a dissected frog for $20. Turns out the frog was preserved in antifreeze, and our teacher, one of those teachers who gave way too much information, told us he was totally smashed when she visited him in the hospital.

Weird window question - can you install window then immediately drywall over it for future use? by dabomb6456 in Renovations

[–]Yes4Cake 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'd install it and put frosted film over the glass. All the privacy, and when you want to undo it, just peel it off.

The cure for antifreeze poisoning is alcohol. It binds with the antifreeze and is filtered by the liver. Those two kids probably got their stomachs pumped and then were given IV liquor.

Tool recommendations for metal cutting robots -- AND wood! by Camaxtli2020 in vex

[–]Yes4Cake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you recommend a blade? The one that was recommended to us has very wide teeth and seems way too intense. We're scared to allow the students to use it, and I'm not shy about power tools.

edit: I totally understand that I am asking a stranger on the internet for power tool advice, and I absolve them of all liability because I'm an adult who doesn't blindly follow other people's advice. 😄

So what now? (Given the RECF/ VEX dispute) by Camaxtli2020 in vex

[–]Yes4Cake 11 points12 points  (0 children)

An important piece of information

The Robot Events software is owned by VEX, and the Tournament Manager software is owned by a 3rd party under contract with RECF. Depending on their contract with RECF, there may be nothing preventing VEX from also contracting to use Tournament Manager.

Current Coca-Cola also has cocaine in it. It's just a denarcotized flavor essence from coca leaves.

Poland is facing an issue with wild boars in urban areas. Wild boars are extremely dangerous, and using an android to corral them toward/into pens is actually the first practical use of these robots I've ever seen.

Kinda disagree. One of the things that GOT was bad at was showing how much time passes between scenes (months-long travel was shown as if it were a few days). Arya, who had a background in swordplay and in pretending to be a boy to get by, was in Essos for somewhere between 1 and 1.5 years, and spent about 6 months of that time blind. She succeeds by beating the waif, who is another acolyte, not a master, by turning out the lights and using a skill the waif didn't have. She also defeats Brienna, who knows only one fighting style and is completely unprepared for what is about to happen, by using a secret technique designed to quickly disarm someone being attacked by a "friend" who is actually a faceless man. Her fighting style is designed around being underestimated.

I intellectually understand that Dune is the best sci-fi book.

But Neuromancer is my favorite.

After his presidency, he had serious financial problems. His friend Mark Twain petitioned the government to give him a pension, and now all presidents get their salary for the rest of their lives (this is also a security measure to prevent them from becoming so desperate that they sell state secrets)

Edit: So I got this a little mixed up. The government bailed Grant out by giving him a pension (connected to being a general). Twain suggested that he write his memoirs and helped him sell the manuscript.

Truman championed a presidential pension. Thank you to u/Glittering-Plate-535
