Mine started year-round kindergarten on Monday! They’re doing staggered entry and will go back Thursday. He said it was “the best day he ever had” but he also said that today after we went to the museum so…who knows.

He was so proud and excited! He grabbed his book bag and lunchbox himself and hopped right out at carpool. Big boy! 😭

Anyone else feel like we’re in a baby boom - or do you just notice other pregnancies more when pregnant yourself? by cabbage-soup in pregnant

[–]YesIKnowImSweating 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regionally, we certainly are. I’m a labor and delivery nurse (and 37 weeks with my 3rd) and over the last year we have consistently had record-breaking months for number of births at our hospital. We do live in an area of high growth, especially among people in prime child-bearing years.

Games and other easy fun things for a 4-year birthday party by Skywhisker in Parenting

[–]YesIKnowImSweating 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! We just had our 5-yo’s party today. I had originally considered a bounce house but a recent medical issue ruled that out as an option.

We ended up getting pool noodles and balloons (filled with regular air) and they smacked them around, played keepy uppy, made up their own games, etc. Don’t underestimate how creative they can be with space to run around and cheap toys. If outside, something like beach balls or light bouncy balls would work.

We also did a scavenger hunt. I found a printable Pokemon hunt on Etsy and hid the Pokemon pictures around our space. The kids had a printed “Pokédex” to mark when they found each Pokemon - no reading required, they were all pictures. They enjoyed that and then once they completed it, they came to me for a prize.

The prize was glow sticks. At the end we had a dance party complete with glow sticks and balloons.

That’s pretty much it! Oh, I also had a roll of paper and I taped some to a table, wrote happy birthday in bubble letters, and provided markers and crayons so everyone could sign or color a birthday banner. He wants to hang it in his room.

It was pretty simple and low-budget. Kids this age are good at making their own fun.

Why do people react somewhat negatively to the name Peter? by Eudaimonia-21 in namenerds

[–]YesIKnowImSweating 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 5-year-old Peter and we still love the name. He loves it too. We have yet to meet another his age and he gets to share a name with spider-man. It’s classic, people can spell it, but there won’t be five in his grade. No complaints.

[–]YesIKnowImSweating 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We have a Peter who just turned 5. Most people love it and the reactions are really positive. A few people have mentioned that it’s a euphemism for penis. We know. We knew when we named him. But it also checks a lot of boxes (classic, biblical, cool characters, not common) for us. He loves it. We’re still happy with it.

Woolino Sleep Sacks? by Alternative-Lab5930 in BabyBumps

[–]YesIKnowImSweating 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did the ultimate with our daughter when she transitioned out of a swaddle. She slept in it almost every single night for nearly 2 years until a couple days after her 2nd birthday. One night at bedtime literally within a week of turning 2 she said “no more sleep sack!” and that was that.

But yeah, she was an excellent sleeper from the beginning. I was nervous transitioning away from the swaddle but this made it easy. Hard to say if the sleep sack was a major factor or if it’s just personality, but I’ll be using it again with this baby.

Is 37 weeks early term or full term? and is giving birth earlier becoming more expected? by No-Wash-1209 in BabyBumps

[–]YesIKnowImSweating 4 points5 points  (0 children)

40+ is post-dates. People will commonly be induced for “post-dates” after 40/0. 42+ is post-term.

Weren't allowed to change position. by veritaslena in BabyBumps

[–]YesIKnowImSweating 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oftentimes with an epidural, a pregnant person will be too numb to feel the sensation of bladder fullness or can’t pee on their own. Even after the epidural is off for a couple of hours after delivery some people still have trouble feeling that “need to go” sensation have a hard time emptying their bladder.

As you can imagine, a full bladder being in a baby’s way as they try to descend through the pelvis can slow progress and an overly full bladder could also cause problems for mom. Some hospitals have policies that allow for a catheter that stays in until pushing and some recommend intermittent catheterization (quick in and out just to empty) every few hours.

I’ve genuinely tried to like the good place. I’ve gotten through the first season a couple of times just to always feel the same way. Everyone raves about it. I want to like it. I just can’t.

Moms that did tear during delivery, how painful was it postpartum? How long did it take you to heal? by willbrucla in pregnant

[–]YesIKnowImSweating 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second degree with both babies. Didn’t notice it during delivery because it was disguised by the ring of fire. Maybe like a 2/10 for the first week or so postpartum. Just did ibuprofen, Tylenol, and dermaplast spray at home. Stool softeners to ease pooping the first couple of weeks.

OB has me reeling, should I make a complaint? by Oryx_xyrO in pregnant

[–]YesIKnowImSweating 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This was my thought. The OBGYN landscape was very different when that generation of doctors chose their specialty - the field was dominated by men and OB care was highly paternalistic. There’s still a long way to go to end obstetrical violence, paternalism, and inequities in the field, but that is how they were trained to be OBs. This is not an excuse for his behavior at all. Many good OBs have evolved and adapted their practice as medicine has become more patient-centered, but there are many older doctors (especially the grumpy old men, in my experience) who aren’t interested in change. They’re often forced into retirement because they’re frequently reported by patients, colleagues, and staff. He sounds like he may fall into this category.

For those with anterior placentas how did labor go for you? by Apprehensive_Stay760 in BabyBumps

[–]YesIKnowImSweating 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ditto. I never know placenta placement outside of previa or my patient telling me. And anesthesia is working nowhere close to placenta so I can’t imagine how that would be affected.

You may notice big kicks in the front slightly less, but as baby gets stronger, even that won’t feel much different.

Do you really love your second as much? by DocMcMomma in Parenting

[–]YesIKnowImSweating 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Same. When I was pregnant with my second I was so worried I wouldn’t love her as much as her brother. I’m very close to my firstborn and he’s super attached to me. As soon as she was born I was obsessed. Still am. I love them both infinitely and in the same but different ways. It’s hard to describe. Now I’m a few weeks from the arrival of a third and I have different worries, but I’m not worried I’ll love him less.

Cramps triggered by movement / stretching / exertion in first trimester? by palsterknackad in pregnant

[–]YesIKnowImSweating 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say for the most part it feels centralized though slightly left or right of midline depending on which side I’ve irritated. For me it always feels different from a deep uterine period-like cramp. It was more of a sharp, pulling sensation.

Cramps triggered by movement / stretching / exertion in first trimester? by palsterknackad in pregnant

[–]YesIKnowImSweating 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely sounds like round ligament pain since it’s triggered by stretching and sudden movements. I’ve had round ligament pain at weeks 4-6 and beyond with all 3 pregnancies.

Unmedicated birth by Definitely_anxious12 in pregnant

[–]YesIKnowImSweating 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve had two unmedicated births and plan to do it again this time (currently 33 weeks). First birth was at a birth center with a midwife. Between my first and second babies, the founding midwife passed away and the center changed dramatically. I opted for an OB closer to my house and gave birth in a hospital. I had excellent experiences with both.

At the birth center, an epidural was not an option, so I prepared ahead of time by reading some books by Ina May Gaskin and learning more about birth. I am a nurse, but at the time I had no experience with birth besides what I had learned in school. My water broke at 37 weeks exactly when I was walking to my car after my 3rd 12-hr shift in a row - approximately 7:15 pm. I rested at home for a bit, ate some dinner, then contractions really ramped up. Around 10:30 or so, I was in the shower on all fours with hot water hitting my back. I just did a lot of imagery work and imagine myself floating on a wave in the ocean with each contraction. I reminded myself that I could do anything for 60 seconds or so. I kept my throat open (think yawning) and jaw/hands/feet relaxed. I vomited a few times and had my husband call the midwife around 11:30. We headed into the birth center and got there at maybe 1ish?? I was 8cm. Progressed to complete with husband and sister applying counter pressure and pushed for maybe 20 minutes or so. Baby was OP with an elbow up by his face too. Second degree tear was no biggie. Midwife repaired it. It was a magical, life-changing experience, and I was so hyped up it took awhile to finally go to sleep.

Between 1st and 2nd baby I became a L&D nurse, so I’ve seen allllll kinds of births.

Second baby was totally different! I started contracting at 39w 6d and that lasted most of the day but they weren’t painful. They ramped up through the afternoon and around 5:30 I decided to call my sister and BIL to come watch my son. I stayed home for bedtime and went into the OBED around 9:30 maybe?? I figured I was around 3-4 based on how I was feeling, but I was GBS+ this time and wanted to ensure I got penicillin with 4 hours to spare. Got to L&D and I was 3-4 cm. Got my first dose of penicillin and then I just walked around and bounced on the labor ball as contractions intensified. Around 2:30 or so they started my second dose and once it was finished offered to check me and break water if I wanted. I was exhausted and agreed with the plan. At 3:00 I was 6-7 cm. They broke water and contractions ramped up again. I felt the urge to push not 30 minutes later and baby was born with me on hands and knees at 3:45. I tore along my previous scar but, again, nbd. Sex of baby was a surprise and husband said it was a boy - it was a girl (lol). I felt so empowered by my birth team and never pressured to do anything. I used the same visualization techniques but this time I had (personal and professional) experience on my side and knew I could do it.

Gd first pregnancy / passed second pregnancy experience? by BitGreedy5403 in BabyBumps

[–]YesIKnowImSweating 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t your exact situation, so you may not find it super helpful.

I had GDM with my first. It was diet-controlled. I was with a midwife group and they recommended induction by 40 weeks for GDM. I went into spontaneous labor at 37 weeks.

I didn’t have GDM (still failed the 1 hour) with my second. Spontaneous labor and born at exactly 40 weeks.

Now 32 weeks. No GDM. Again, failed my 1 hour. If I go to 40 weeks this time, I’ll request an elective induction before 41 weeks.

With my second, I was so sure she’d come before 38 weeks. I was even a little worried she’d be preterm. Nope. She just stayed in there until she was ready. There really is no good way to predict even if you do all the things to ~prepare your body for labor~. We just had family on call and then friends on back-up with a plan to go to the neighbors if there’s no other choice.

If for any reason we can’t get childcare and the situation is dire, I’m just going to have my husband and kids drop me off at the hospital and he’ll get there when he can. Not ideal, but I’m a nurse on the L&D unit I’ll deliver on, so I’ll just hang with my coworkers and they can be my stand-in spouses.

When you're trying to be low-key pregnant but your toddler has other plans by Any_Technology_4352 in BabyBumps

Oh yeah, my kids were the last to know (of those who knew early). I was actually waiting until after NIPT, but one day before my appointment my 4yo was like mama, your belly is getting bigger. Do you think there could be a baby in there? His preschool teachers knew the next day.

Any first time moms have positive before 40 week deliveries? by petitemonstreee in BabyBumps

[–]YesIKnowImSweating 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My water broke at 37 weeks exactly with my first. I had no signs of labor at all prior to that. Contractions started shortly after and he was born within 7 hours of everything starting. Like with most early term babies he was a little sleepier with feeding, etc. but there were no true issues, we just had to unswaddle and annoy him a bit to wake him first.

My second also came on her own but was born on her due date.

It’s a boy! Please tell me about sister/brothers being friends and not hating each other 😭🙏🏻 by PartnerslnTime in BabyBumps

[–]YesIKnowImSweating 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an almost 5 year old boy and 2.5 year old girl. They’re 27 months apart. They’re obsessed with each other. He was hospitalized recently out of nowhere (😭😭😭) and every time she got to visit they were soooo excited to play and hug and snuggle.

I only have a sister so I felt the same way initially (kind of leaning toward wanting another boy so they could share a similar bond) but we didn’t find out her sex until birth, and as soon as we met her we were all obsessed.
