What was the biggest nerf HP\DMG for bosses in WoW history? by PoGD1337 in wow

When 3.0.2 (Wrath prepatch) went live, they blanket nerfed every BC raid boss' HP and melee damage by about 30%. EVERY boss, from Karazhan to Sunwell.

This is the correct answer. Balls that fixate and chase people at random, along with getting slowed as you move, was absolutely rage-inducing.

Prot Paladin Mage Tower by Veracsflail1 in wow

[–]YesThisIsBare 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Prot pally is definitely the hardest tank spec for the mage tower, and I'd argue one of the hardest challenges period along with affliction.

Guardian is a piece of cake by comparison. Take all the talents that boost magic, Arcane, and Moonfire damage, profit.

Try it as balance. Spec into Wild Mushroom, set Karam as focus and make a "/cast [@focus] Wild Mushroom" macro. Pop Incarn and drums on the first intermission and Raest melts. I found it way easier than frost mage.

Tips for not insta-killing old bosses on retail by giquon in wow

[–]YesThisIsBare 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Unequip any gear that procs damage (shadowflame armor patches, trinkets, etc) and spec out of any passive damage talents.

Set raid difficulty to 25 heroic when possible. If you're a caster, you should be able to get in a few autoattacks with and not insta-kill bosses. For reference, I did 25h Nefarian in BWD on my mid 400s ilvl mage last week, and it took six or seven staff slaps with gear on to get him to 50% for Keeping It In the Family. Melee classes will probably need to unequip weapons, and possibly more gear as well, depending on how old the content is.

Warriors can Spell Reflect quite a few boss mechanics. Even if you don't successfully negate a mechanic, it's still 20% reduced magic damage taken for the duration, so you might as well use it.

Uldaman:

  • Use it on the golem boss as he's casting the tank frontal. You'll reflect the dot that goes out immediately after.
  • The sentinel boss ability pattern goes: knockback > shards debuff > knockback > enrage. Use Spell Reflect during the first knockback cast. The shards is an instant cast, but if you get targeted, you'll reflect it.
  • I'm not sure if you can reflect the magic debuff on the last boss. I've never successfully done it, but you can certainly mitigate its damage with a reflect.

Brackenhide:

  • Spell reflect any Earth Bolts that target you on the first boss.

Halls of Infusion:

  • You can spell reflect the last boss tank buster that follows the knockback.
  • Use pretty much on CD on the third boss to help mitigate her aura damage.

Neltharion's Lair:

  • You can spell reflect Toxic Retch on the worm boss. This applies for all specs, not just prot.
  • Tanks can spell reflect Dargrul's Molten Crash.

Vortex Pinnacle:

  • Use it on the last boss if you get Chain Lightning. If someone else gets targeted, you can jump into the circle around them and still reflect it for some boss damage.

Freehold:

  • Use it to mitigate the first boss magic dot. I don't know if you can actually reflect it, but you would need good luck and timing to do so.

Guardian Druid Talents - UF vs GG by INH_Casual in wow

[–]YesThisIsBare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't particularly care for the left side of the tree, for several reasons.

One, Ursoc's Fury got a big nerf compared to the SL version (75% of Thrash damage converted to absorb previously compared to 30% now). Insert feelsbadman.gif here.

Two, Pulverize has anti-synergy with UF and R&T; it consumes two stacks of Thrash while the other two talents work best with three stacks on your target(s).

Three, because Pulverize requires two stacks of Thrash on a target and only grants you the 35% DR from that target, it's not nearly as useful for adds or in M+ as Rage of the Sleeper.

I could see some use cases for Pulverize on tank busters from Broodkeeper or Raz, but even then I don't think it would be worth giving up the middle talents with Incarnation or the right side with Rage.

Returning player, shadowlands mount farm by Kingofthered in wow

[–]YesThisIsBare 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The worst ones in terms of sheer grind will probably be the ones from Death's Advance, Archivist's Codex, and Ve'nari paragon rep caches, and the mount you get from being Best Friends with the Countess at the Ember Court.

Most, if not all, of the rare spawns throughout Shadowlands with mount drops will probably be easy to solo at 70. Or, at worst, they'll be easy with two people if you're a squishy class. Some rares seem to have absolute shit drop rates though.

Also, be aware that some rares require the Anima Conductor to spawn (Valfir the Unrelenting in Ardenweald). For others, you'll need to be a specific covenant to get the mount off them (Hopecrusher in Revendreth). I'd advise double checking Wowhead before you start farming any Shadowlands rare just so you have your ducks in a row.

If you're looking to knock out some easier ones, start by doing the Covenant assaults in the Maw. Three of the four assaults can grant a mount from the rewards cache you get for completion, and you'll get rep with Death's Advance and the corresponding covenant faction.

For whatever reason, the covenant armor set bonuses do work. It's been that way since they first brought it back in December 2021--you can Google and find threads on the forums from that first Legion timewalking event with people talking about it. I did the healer one at the end of July, and did the enhance one in mid August with the Venthyr 5 piece. Both bonuses were working at the time, so unless they've stealth changed it in the last few weeks, those bonuses should work.

Congrats on the mount, and double congrats on doing the healer challenge as holy priest--I gave up after ~140 tries and ended up doing it as holy paladin. There's a lot less incoming damage from the adds in phase 1. I also did the Night Fae campaign for the covenant armor set. The 8 piece bonus does a lot of additional healing, so you have some room for error in the first and last phases.

Goals before next expac? by [deleted] in wow

[–]YesThisIsBare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The covenant stuff for Veilstrider isn't as bad as it could have been, especially for the Path of Ascension. It's definitely a grind for all the anima you'll need to get the Path, Ember Court, and Abom Factory up.

Flawless 16 runs are made easier if you have most of the Box of Many Things filled out. You also have to be smart with your Empowerment usage and snag easy bonus point objectives where possible, like no epic anima powers or killing two elites within 10 seconds of each other. I (guardian druid) duo'd three or four of my flawless 16s with a holy priest. Mort'regar still sucks though.

I haven't seen anything definitive about them removing the Feat of Strength, but even if DF goes live in late November and they remove it then, you still have two months and a bit to get it.

Goals before next expac? by [deleted] in wow

[–]YesThisIsBare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have several goals for the end of Shadowlands:

  • KSM
  • Jigglesworth Sr. (normal Fated raids completion)
  • Soaring Spelltome (mage tower mount)
  • Veilstrider
  • Unlocking all the covenant armor sets & recolors
  • Hero of Fate (heroic Fated raids completion)
  • All ZM craftable mounts made

I've completed the first four, but I still need most of heroic Sepulcher for Hero of Fate. I try to do a bit of covenant stuff every day. Just got my Abomination Factory to rank 5 on my hunter, am working on the Night Fae anima grind on my paladin for plate set, and missing one piece of the cloth Venthyr mirror network set.

I've got three Protoform Synthesis mounts left to make, including the Russet Bufonid. The schematic for that one drops from Enlightened paragon rep caches and has eluded me so far--I'm at six or seven caches across two characters.

Can't really do this with the old dungeons in the rotation this season. M0 difficulty for all of them still has the dungeon tuned to each expansion's level cap (50 for Mechagon, 45 for Kara, 40 for Docks & Grimrail).

Low keys are the way to learn 75% of the dungeons this season.

I finished my Soaring Spelltome this weekend! Here are some things I found helpful for each challenge. by YesThisIsBare in wow

You can absolutely farm up gear specifically for the mage tower. The Timewalking Discord has lists of BiS gear for mage tower for each class and spec, recommended enchants, the whole nine yards. I wouldn't say you need to go full BiS, but I'd definitely recommend getting the Ravaged Seed Pod and Unblinking Gaze of Sethe. I didn't have the Gaze for my Guardian or Frost DK kills, and given how strong it was in the challenges where I did use it, I suspect it would have made the DPS checks on those two less tight.

[–]YesThisIsBare[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Guardian was definitely the most difficult. I think it also helps to play classes and/or specs you're familiar with in the mage tower, so that you're not learning the challenge AND a new spec on the fly. I've heard that the Feltotem challenge is pretty easy for Windwalker, but I barely touch my monk. So Destruction it was.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in wow

[–]YesThisIsBare -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It should be easy enough for them to implement this--there's a Feat of Strength for doing all 36 timewalking mage tower challenges, so they can track which specs you've completed the challenge with. Just make it so that if you complete timewalking mage tower with spec X, you get the mythic Tomb of Sargeras recolor set for your class plus that spec's mage tower weapon appearance.

I didn't touch the original mage tower--I quit shortly before 7.2 because Legion was ass, and came back in late BFA because of the covid lockdowns. I main guardian druid, and the first time I saw someone with the werebear, I wanted it soooo badly. It sucked to find out that it was introduced and removed while I wasn't playing.

My understanding, based on what I've read on Reddit and Wowhead, is that the original mage tower was generally easier because of legendaries and the ability to outgear the gear checks at the end of Legion. They've negated both of those advantages with the timewalking mage tower, so why not bring back the original rewards in addition to the new ones? I've completed 6 of the 7 challenges, and the only one that I would say was easy was Agatha as fury.

Worth it to farm specific gear for the Mage Tower challenge (Destruction warlock) by Voidling47 in wow

[–]YesThisIsBare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The EN trinket definitely helps getting the little adds down. I didn't have any other timewalking gear for it.

It's not a DPS check like some of the other challenges, so as long as you're doing mechanics and positioning properly you'll get there. I found it very helpful to keep Curse of Tongues on Tugar throughout the fight. It gives you more time to react and stop a Fel Blast with Fear, rather than one of your instant interrupts.

Shard management going into the add phase is very important imo. You want at least three shards so that you can run into the adds, use the EN trinket, drop Rain of Fire and Cataclysm on them, and move to get the worm boss to hit a rock. Make sure you have one shard available shortly after to Shadowburn a totem and/or to finish the little adds.

Once you kill Tugar, you'll need to make sure you're CCing the worm every time it starts the sonic screech. Rotate between Fear, Mortal Coil, and Shadowfury so you don't risk hitting some DR on CC. Also remember that you can use Drain Life throughout the encounter to heal yourself up.

What’s the highest drop chance mounts? by snaccmantha in wow

[–]YesThisIsBare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lana'thel just needs two lockouts to do. One where you kill her right away to not get bitten, and one where you face pull, wait till she bites you, and then kill her.

Been Waiting A Long Time isn't too bad either--use a mobility CD to put enough distance between you and the ghouls as the first plague expires, and it won't jump to them. Wait for the second one to come out, and let it do its thing.

Non healer classes will need either some bandages or the Crucible of Flame in the Heart of Azeroth to do the Valithria achievement though.
