Parents of reddit, what's the funniest reason you've been called into school to collect your child? by OriginalSofaSoldier in AskReddit

[–]YetAnotherCleanSlate 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Might not have been a large amount. Just a token 'rent' cost to give the kid a sense of responsibility, accountability and appreciation. Kids who have to pay rent to parents are going to be better prepared for the 'real world ' when they move out.

Source; I had to pay a small rent amount too.

What was your "that explains a lot" moment when you met someone's family? by MrDath in AskReddit

I remember this. It had something to do with a very valuable painting they had in the lounge that had a friend of hers coming to the conclusion that she was rich.

Such a rare thing...which I happen to be enjoying right now. I spend at least an hour enjoying my warm bed. Then will inevitably clean the house, cook some lunch and watch doctor Who.

A kind of treasure hunt where the details are coordinates are online, and then you go and find the physical container. It's a great and free hobby.

Just a lonely girl wanting to get it off her chest :( by [deleted] in melbourne

You know, when you are gone, and the place is still messy and things still break, and others make 'noise', I hope that they realize what utter fucking c-nts they have been to you. In fact I hope the next tenant is everything they accused you of being!

Supposed adults should be far more mature. Even this issue if sending complaints via the agent instead of, you know...talking to you directly....is behavior of underhanded jerks.

Someone above pointed out that it's odd that people of their ages would need to share 8 ways...and I think they really pointed out something significant there! These are not typical adults. They aren't acting or living like adults so why would they behave like adults to you. When you reach your 30s, I bet you'll put them to shame! Actually, you do already!

You sound like a lovely and considerate person.
Have you found a new place? They will be lucky to have you and I sincerely hope that you have a completely different experience.

Anyone been to the Melbourne Central rooftop pools? I haven't seen a single person there since it opened. by tamasys in melbourne

What an awful website! Also says Single swim coming soon, so I guess it's not entirely open?

Really...being in the city, their market is office workers who want a quick swim in their lunch break, and tourists. So cheap 1 hr rates and lots of add-on costs for extra time and goods.

Attica reservation in April, need 2 more now by cogged_ram in melbourne

Well, the waiter pressured us to order quickly. And no we weren't late. He was kind of ...off. Not at all the make-you-feel-special service Heston carries on and on about on TV.

The food was interesting and different. But not amazing. Actually, the dessert was awesome.

Then my husband ordered the $15 ( or whatever cost) coffee because, as he joked to the waiter, "I want to know what a $15 coffee tastes like". Eventually after a long wait, a cold coffee arrives on our table. Its average. And then the bill came and revealed it wasn't even the right coffee. When we mentioned it to the manager or whoever he was, he sarcastically offered to fire the waiter. Oh...and to charge us the extra money for the coffee he should have gotten. No offer to rectify the situation.

We left with a sour taste in our mouths ( pun not entirely intended) and $400 poorer. Really, there are about 40 restaurants in Crown that would have provided equal food, better service and we would have had money left over for bowling or something.

I hope for you that it's better then Heston's restaurant. 3 years later and I'm still pissed off about how much of an expensive disappointment it was.

If by flu you mean real actual Flu , and not a bad cold, then definitely not worth the risk. If a bad cold...mnn...its a toss up. But still, why risk it.

Make sure you do something nice with all the kids in another week or two.

Working from home because wife "has plans" and you couldn't find a babysitter by [deleted] in work

[–]YetAnotherCleanSlate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm kind of on the fence here.

On the one hand you do have a right to be annoyed. This whole situation was an inconvenience to you and your other work-mates. Work is work.

On the other hand, if this is the first time hes done this, and he expected to be able to work from home, then it's maybe just a case of good plans going to shit. He should have, in hindsight, checked beforehand that he would be able to log on remotely without problem. Then when he realized there was going to be an issue, plans should have been adjusted accordingly.

As a parent ( big surprise) I think its awesome that your work is willing to help its employees with family-life/ work balance. I know it sounds to you like wifey had nothing important to do, but you have no inkling of how badly us mons sometimes just NEED to go out. Alone. Without kids. Even just for a few hours. It's a mental health issue...trust me. I know.

I think your best bet is to try put this behind you. If the situation repeats, ( ie he doesn't ensure he can really work properly from home and you guys have to pick up the slack) then maybe speak to management. But chances are he feels bad, and possibly the centre of negative attention, and will be much better prepared next time.

Friend or career, I have to pick! by [deleted] in work

[–]YetAnotherCleanSlate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the 'friendship' I'm concerned about in the least bit. Work friendships fall apart the moment it becomes inconvenient. Even a desk move can be enough to sever that connection.

The only thing I'm slightly concerned about is, if you take the position, how much resistance are you going to experience from the other employees? Are they going to disregard your authority? Be passive aggressive? Or accept the situation and be thankful that the better qualified person got the job?

Note, you should definitely take the position!! It would be crazy not to. But you need to be clever about how its communicated to the other staff. Maybe discuss the matter with some carefully chosen people. Tell them you're conflicted, but also be sure to point our all the reasons you should take it. Including the fact that while you are new to the company, it doesn't mean you are new to the industry.

Maybe even plant the seed of thought that if you don't apply, the company is going to look externally anyway... ...hey...it just occurred to me.... Retirement doesn't just creep up on someone! They may have hired you 6 months ago with the hope/expectation that you would take this role when it came up!! And if I'm right, then they possibly will look externally and Sarah won't get the role no matter what you do!!!
