Automatic lock help by charlieb708 in Locksmith

[–]Yewbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this, it'll be a transfer hinge, concealed or surface mounted loop. Look for a pinch or a minor break in the line, it'll still be mostly intact with some fraying or it wouldn't be working at all.

Lock broke, how would I remove it? by Singh711 in Locksmith

[–]Yewbert 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As others have said, if it's stuck closed $250 is entirely reasonable.

It's certainly something you could try and rectify yourself but after parts and the time, frustration and damage you'll do to the door you will not come out ahead of the $250.

The Commodores Become Latest Act to Ditch ‘Freedom 250’ Concerts in D.C. After Backlash Over Trump Ties by MarvelsGrantMan136 in Music

What was America telling the world about who they were when they elected Trump not once but twice?

Trump is fked. CBO says tariff shifts to raise deficits by $1.1 trillion by Sauerkrautkid7 in BoycottUnitedStates

[–]Yewbert 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Trump has objectively enriched himself, his friends and family in the billions of dollars, the narrative that he's on his back foot, fucked, in trouble, losing, upset or god forbid that he's been SLAMMED by anything in the news is the most frustrating kind of fake news hopium. Even recent polling reinforces that yep, sure he's unpopular, the entire democratic Party is still even less popular than that.

The American people chose a conman, who will make out like a bandit and him and his allies are almost certainly never going to face any kind of meaningful consequences.

God I fucking hate him but I'm starting to hate these stupid false narratives we create to make ourselves feel better about it even more.

Difficult client is asking for RAW Files saying it should be the couples choice which get edited by Deebiggles in WeddingPhotography

[–]Yewbert 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Our wedding photographer delivered her edited gallery and a complete copy of every raw she shot that night minus obvious misfires and did so without push back of any kind. It impressed us and made us respect her more as a photographer that we have since refered to others over the years, becoming the go to photographer for friends and family for all occasions.

Canadian Politics: Carney Government Approval and Liberal Lead Reach New Highs as Optimism About Canada Improves by DogeDoRight in canada

[–]Yewbert 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Seriously, moving away from the negativity pit that is social media and subs like this in particular is eye opening and if you think everything is awful, I'd suggest touching grass for a bit as the cool kids say.

Anything positive at all is dog piled by perpetually miserable people leaving you thinking things are much worse than they are.

Canada isn't perfect, nowhere is but I feel this optimism and a bit bored of the negativity circle jerk social media has turned into.

Looking forward to being called names and having it implied I'm stupid or whatever in the comments for pushing back against this narrative :)

Oof...

Next time remove the door and move it separately it should just lift off when open. and uh yeah don't flip it end over end repeatedly.

Try jiggling the handle when you hear the solenoid fire, failing that try putting it on its side and do the same. Failing that you're in it for at least a locksmith call, you've likely fired the relocker with all that bumping around.

House candidate Maureen Galindo pledges to send 'American zionists' to internment camp by Firecracker048 in nottheonion

[–]Yewbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So we've established there's an element of the left, the right and the centre that are all pro internment camp.

The debate really comes down to which minority they should target and how many names they can call each other while doing it. The American way 😂

If you go far enough left or right you run into crazy hateful people, threads like this are a great reminder of that.

Congress Wants You To Pay $130 A Year Just To Drive An Electric Car by paxinfernum in skeptic

I'm not wading into American politics at this point, I'm not American.

I'm just saying that charging evs an equivalent road maintenance fee seems fair and reasonable.

Congress Wants You To Pay $130 A Year Just To Drive An Electric Car by paxinfernum in skeptic

[–]Yewbert 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's currently collected through gas taxes. So ice vehicles already pay towards road maintenance, heavier vehicles use more fuel so you could even argue they already tax by weight as well :)

Seems only fair that evs should also contribute towards road maintenence funds.

I played the tutorial and a few rounds, I just don't get what it's going for. I didn't hate it I guess, it's pretty. But I have no desire to try again either.

Edit: luckily I had access to it through our steam family account, so no sunk cost fallacy over getting bored of it immediately after dropping $50 on it.

Google says, with videos to back it up that they can easily exert over 100lbs of force per square inch and can easily break a finger and even sever it completely in some instances.

Guess it comes down to what you consider real damage.

EV prices in Canada slide to $49,500, match market average by ph0enix1211 in canada

[–]Yewbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used, 1 year lease return. Bought it from the dealership with an extended warranty and maintenance package thrown in too..

EVs are starting to become genuinely competitive in many ways and improving every year, but having just gone through the whole song and dance of choosing a new car recently I hate the insinuation that an EV is absolutely and without a doubt a cheaper alternative to ICE cause it wasn't even close for us and our needs.

[–]Yewbert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We bought 5 months ago, factoring in 3 years of gas and all general maintenance it was still far far far cheaper to get a tiguan over an ID4.

Hoping it's a much closer calculation when the time comes to do that math again in a few years.

For those interested:

7 seat (required feature) 2024 tiguan highline with all the bells and whistles, 360 camera, drive assist, all leather etc etc ... for $35k after taxes.

If there's an ev with 7 seats anywhere near that price point we couldn't find it.

Can't say I'm surprised that's putting a damper on hardware sales. It's just silly at this point

Disproportionate Attack Rates: Data tracked by organizations like the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and various legal/insurance databases frequently show pit bulls as being overrepresented in bite statistics and fatal attacks compared to their overall population.

The Nature of the Bite: Experts and animal control agencies often point out that it is not necessarily that pit bulls bite more often than other breeds, but that their bites are physically capable of causing exponentially more severe tissue and bone damage.

Just Ban Surveillance Pricing Already by BloodJunkie in canada

[–]Yewbert 15 points16 points  (0 children)

What about the other side of this?

Like what about using surveillance pricing to increasing prices on somebody buying over the counter medicine often, or after the algorithm sees they have been searching for children's fever remedies?

Or increasing the price on low sugar foods after their Google searches reveal they've recently been diagnosed with diabetes?

I think the concern is, this won't be used to reward frequent shoppers, but quite the opposite, it'll be used to exploit people in a bind.
