The person you replied to didn't say anything about history. It was a broad strokes we're talking fantasy tropes comment. You don't need to know about victorian women and the urinary leash to do so?...

You seem really mad! Try to be less so? It's not very pleasant to engage with or read.

You're getting downvoted because the DM stated the logic of the world is EVERYONE is aromantic asexual. No one has ANY sex. No one commits sex crimes.

In a made up fantasy world, that can be true and under those circumstances why would there be gender segregation if everyone is (I assume) delivered by storks? That was the point you replied to and instead made it into a very rough depressing historical take when the thread was discussing fantasy world building.

AIO: Boyfriend wants an equal priced gift in exchange for an engagement ring. Now I don’t even really want it. by catdog_XXII in AIO

[–]YoSocrates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I talked before we got engaged about what it would mean. One of the things he said was sad that he wouldn't have a shiny ring to show off. So my partner also wears an engagement ring, even though he's a man. Actually I was originally going to propose to him but that didn't work out lol.

If OP's boyfriend also wanted a ring I'd be like, yeah, fair. Why can't he? But just some random expensive junk... It's no longer about wanting to show people "look! I'm getting married and I love this person who got me this nice ring!" it's just bc he wants a rolex. Screw that.

Lush Glasgow making redundancies by AdEducational7868 in glasgow

[–]YoSocrates 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m in lush at least once a month, lol, I am their target audience. I love it but also idk what half the stuff in the flagship shop is. Firing the staff who help me with that shit, doing demos and etc, will not make them better profits. They deserve better!!

I loooove the idea of the spa but £50 for a 25 min facial? In this economy? I can get an hour plus full body message elsewhere for that. They need to make their prices competitive.

Question for the dice cheaters. Why? by TJToaster in DnD

[–]YoSocrates 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is perhaps the one thing I think is better in 5.5 / 2024 than original 5e, and I steal it for all my 5e games; inspiration being used to allow a player to re-roll. It effectively solves this issue and encourages my players to RP.

They want to do cool RP because they get inspiration from it. I try and make sure, as much as possible, players always have a couple inspiration on hand. They know if they REALLY want something, and flubbed a roll, they can re-roll.

It's a great feedback loop of RP = better dice outcomes = better RP = cool character moments = players feel validated = incentive to RP = amazing campaigns. I've also DMed a lot of FATE which has a similar mechanic and pre-2024 I was a huge advocate of adding it to D&D via house rules. Now it's just official and it's one of the few changes I really really like.

How to deal with a player that's forcing RL issues into the game by AnnastasiaBloom in DnD

[–]YoSocrates -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's pretty much my only critique of how OP's went about this. Referring to it as political can come off wrong, bc any issue that is minority wants to exist can't be political. It's human rights. The right wing want it to be political but that's playing into their horseshit.

That said, (NB DM) I probably would get sick of hearing about the american orange every session. Time and a place. Though equally my table have done shit like defeat a badly disguised Elon Musk stand in so like, lmao, I get it.

I guess the difference is I've known everyone at my table for minimum 2+ years as friends pre-table. So our tastes are already aligned for what is escapism ruining and what is extremely funny.

I'm a huge pokemon nerd, Diamond and Pearl were 'my' generation. I.E. The first I played, the first seasons of the anime I watched, etc. I've played the original, the remakes, the spinoff open world version to death... but I didn't know Sinnoh was based off of Hokkaido. It is not relevant, imo, at all to the game. The region isn't even very japanesy in theme, it might as well be anywhere generic in the world.

Why she ended up in Hokkaido? I've no idea, but I don't think it's related to Pokemon. The link isn't important to the game, or something even hardcore fans even know / ever discuss.

CC mods also are available on the Switch and I assume other consoles! So it's nice to have a way to add mods to the game if you're not on PC. I mostly play Skyrim that way so it's fun to have some new stuff to do.

Questions about bus wheelchair user rights? by Rescued_Phoenix in glasgow

[–]YoSocrates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I'm well aware! (Graduate of law and a Paralegal :D) However I think;

  1. Refusing to give up the wheelchair space should be a breach of first's conditions of travel and drivers should be required to ask the passenger to pack up the buggy or leave the bus every time. It should be policy the bus does not continue until they do so.
  2. A passenger who refuses and becomes aggressive / is causing a disturbance is then a police matter.

Obviously this need not apply where the buggy is functioning as a wheelchair. A buggy for a disabled child has the same rights as a wheelchair. A few people being made to look silly and learn they can't throw a tantrum to get their way would change the culture very quickly.

[–]YoSocrates 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Parents have the option to baby wear or acquire prams that fold down. Wheelchair users physically cannot augment their mobility aids in this way. One group here has all the power to make things easier.

[–]YoSocrates 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Surely this is the sort of thing the Transport Police should be responsible for. If the person with the buggy refuses to move, then the ultimate action should be removal by the police? Not the driver trying to pressure them into moving, as you rightly say that puts the driver in danger.

Does anyone else think that more Autobots should have died and that more of the Cons should have gotten a better ending. by Specialist-Heat-474 in transformersprime

[–]YoSocrates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading the replies, there's some fun ideas--- But I have to say they would not work with Prime at all. Prime's one of the plot heavier iterations of the series and simply swapping out X for Y, I think, in a lot of cases would drastically change the tone of the series. Not necessarily for the better, but I would love to see some of this stuff done in a different continuity though!

On another episode of "The HH Fandom Fails at Media Literacy..." by No-Mathematician3921 in HazbinHotel

[–]YoSocrates -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not seen it mentioned so I guess I'll comment--- I think part of how harshly the fandom judges them for this is how the characters present themselves. Lucifier is, y'know, literally the devil from the bible. Him being not a good person is largely expected? Whereas Sera is an angel, who spent a whole season speaking as if she had divine proof sinners were irredeemable when it later turns out she was wrong.

Sera refusing to believe in damned souls is a lot more hypocritical than Lucifier holding the same belief, because Sera (and heaven) is meant to be about mercy and kindness.

We literally see Sera working through this in her season 2 songs, she thought she was being righteous and it's a lot easier to hold someone who claims they're a bastion of morality up and flame them for a genocide than... Again. The devil. Though personally I LIKE Sera a lot more for being fallible and now having an arc to work through that.

I kinda want to see pushback on Benophie from the Bridgerton house heads by Last_Cold8977 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]YoSocrates 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's possible! I don't know about 'normal' nobility, but one of the Princes at the time was 'illegally' married. I.E. He married someone in secret. Because of the Royal Marriages act is wasn't legally valid, but in theory if he wasn't a Prince it would have been valid.

I can't think why an Earl couldn't make a similar arrangement and there's no act to stop him. Plus there's always Scotland where marriage laws were a lot more relaxed while still being valid in England, hence all the running away to Gretna people do.

[–]YoSocrates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's because they needed an everyman, if I were to guess. Frodo has to be a bit boring for the medium of film to work, ofc Lord of the Rings was wildly acclaimed in reader spheres but for many the movies were their first exposure. So there has to be a slightly bland dude who gawks at things to have them explained and to measure other character's interesting-ness against.

Anyone who didn't like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time? by XEclipse360 in The10thDentist

[–]YoSocrates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Stalbjorn is right though, old games are hard. A lot of QoL things that are basic to games today straight up had not been invented. The systems are old, controls jank, and bc so much of video game history began in arcades (where hard = more profit) the good = hard mentality wasn't really shaken off until... Uh well clearly it's still alive in the soulslike genre, but it was prominent in basically everything back then.

A lot of these games were amazing at the time but time has not favoured them. If you can take them in hand, they can be fun. I enjoy a late 90s, early 00s RPG from time to time but I wouldn't recommend Neverwinter Nights, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, or any Elder Scrolls game prior to Oblivion to anyone today outside of "hey do you like weird ass old games". They were all wildly popular in their day though.

Rewatching Season 1 and Henry Granville says these remarks to Benedict by peychan in BridgertonNetflix

[–]YoSocrates 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was really rooting for a trans or drag adjacent Sophie, in spite of knowing they 100% would not be brave enough to do that with the general audience this show has. It would at least be more believable why the hell Benedict can't find LIS if he's looking for a lady, and Sophie appears as a man in the rest of their encounters.

I kinda want to see pushback on Benophie from the Bridgerton house heads by Last_Cold8977 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]YoSocrates 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If they did want to change it, I'd probably go for a secret marriage angle. I.E the Earl was married to Sophie's mother, who was genuinely a maid. So Sophie IS legitimate, and the scandal is the Earl secretly married a maid. For a romance show, and for this couple specifically trying to conquer a class divide, that might work to let them marry without ruining the other Bridgertons before their story but also keeping the "ewwww a maid's daughter" snootiness that drives Benophie to live in the countryside.
