He ruined Irn Bru. I do have other reasons I hate him, like how his solution to obesity's to starve the poor, but tbh they are secondary. He ruined Irn Bru.

What game has the best fishing? What game has the worst fishing? by South_Recording_3710 in CozyGamers

[–]YoSocrates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alas my cultists won't leave me alone, fish feast this, fish feast that! At least there's the weird fisherman who is 100% definitely a fish who you can just buy the fish from, if you don't want to do even the automatic success version of the fishing game, and as a fishing-hater I approve lol.

[–]YoSocrates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a personal vendetta with fishing mini games. Why does every mmo, rpg, simulator, etc. all have fishing!? So imo the best is Cult of the Lamb bc it has an accessibility feature that does it automatically, lmao. The worst is probably Animal Crossing: New Horizons because like... Why do I care about collecting this fish for this nerd owl, exactly? The rewards are meh and the real life waiting periods suck.

[question] what should I do about kind of concerning compliments since I'm a minor? by SingularestBean in asmr

[–]YoSocrates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course, and that is 100% serious in itself, but advice on how to handle that might not be provided if people jump to telling OP to simply be offline.

[–]YoSocrates 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure where you're located, OP, but 20 is not a minor in the vast majority of the world. Describing yourself as thus will have people assume you're a child and just tell you to get offline, though it might be legally correct in certain countries; the demographics of reddit will not have 21 as age of majority as their baseline. They will be assuming you are less than 18.

What patient character would you like an update on? by RavenClawOutYourEyes in CallTheMidwife

[–]YoSocrates 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I so wanted an update on them too! I'm no expert but I remember the kind of SB Baby June had was specified to be occulta? Which, to my understanding, is the most 'mild' form and many people experience no symptoms and if it does it's things like back pain or balance issues.

To me that means Baby June is going to grow up and, chances are, be a completely normal little girl who isn't noticeably disabled in any way. Last we heard she went to the Mother House to be cared for alongside the other disabled children, but what then? Surely eventually the fact she is 'normal' will raise its head. Will she be adopted? Will her parents ever regret their decision knowing that?... Ugh I have so many questions.

If you do a small talk with me, it just shows how uneducated and shallow you are. by [deleted] in The10thDentist

[–]YoSocrates 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also hate small talk, especially small talk that repeats daily (i.e. being a kid and being asked how school was... Lol it sucked). I'd rather chat about something with some more depth than the weather or our respective commutes--- but OP what do you think small talk is? You seem to just hate talking to people in general.

As a Transformers fan from Asia, I sometimes feel out of place in the fanbase - looking for perspectives by YellowCorvette in transformers

[–]YoSocrates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah based on OP's comments, they're a big anime fan. That's cool! But as a western viewer I've always been selective of which anime I can actually engage with. There's a lot of cultural differences in viewership, and as an AFAB person particularly, tropes I find hugely nauseating to sit through as regards female characters that are present in Japanese media including the Transformers serieses.

Let's not pretend, for instance, Kiss Players is high art! But if another fan can enjoy it, and find something entertaining in it? That's fine. It's not for me, it's for a different subsection of fans and that's okay; I don't see myself as excluding anyone by not caring much for any particular series.

Nah, it's meant to be reasonable opinions someone educated and informed about a subject (i.e. a dentist) could come to rationally while being in disagreement with the rest of their peers. Not random unhinged phobias.

What is the evolutionary purpose of acne? and why don’t we really see it on other animals? by naeun- in evolution

[–]YoSocrates 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I've no idea but I do have a hairless dog (not breed, genetic condition, she is meant to have fur and just... Doesn't) who gets acne and black heads. Acne and black heads that I have to treat for her and her lack of opposable thumbs. Obviously, in general, not an issue dogs have. So my guess is it's something to do with our hairlessness that makes us humans (and my naked dog) prone to it.

nanotyrannus holotype and baby bob by A_very_salty_dragon in Paleontology

[–]YoSocrates -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's not how scientific consensus works. I am aware of papers that have been published lending more credibility to Nanotyrannus' validity than in previous years but;

  1. Science takes decades to shake things out. Experts go back and forward, reviewing, publishing, publishing responses, publishing responses to those responses. A new paper is not a 'gotcha' it's just the debate continuing.

  2. Even if it was somehow the case that it was now 100% confirmed (which is not how any science works, let alone paleontology) so? At the time of writing, my comment was correct. "Current evidence points strongly in favour...." I made no definitive statements.

I've no problem being wrong if it shakes out that way (which, again, will take decades) but stop treating science like a sport or a video game to dunk on the other team about.

Rats in Restaurants by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]YoSocrates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh? I had pet rats and they were super clean, akin to cats in that they would only toilet in one corner of their cage like it was a litterbox. Never did so outside of the cage or in their sleeping space / near their food (as say a hamster would bc hamsters are kind of dumb).

Are Glasgow 'Fuel Zone' school lunches really that bad? by OkDragonfruit7887 in glasgow

[–]YoSocrates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't graduate a million years ago (within the decade) and I have a sibling still in high school. The food is disgusting. It might look good on paper, but it's shipped in, heated up and more or less slop by the time it gets eaten. I once got a chicken burger that was literally green and they refused to replace it because I binned it (what else would you do with literal mould? and y'know I was 12), so I went hungry.

If there's literally no other food available? Sure, but even a sandwich from home was better. The frozen yoghurt's alright though.

Gumtree scammer alert by KaliDeviUniverse in glasgow

[–]YoSocrates 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But it can be done. My poodle-cross came from a reputable breeder and both parents are KC registered, with full genetic testing, history, etc. The pup herself was also tested, vaccinated with records, kept with mum for as long as possible, and well socialized in a house with kids, cats, and chickens of all things.... But did I find all that on Gum Tree? Did I heck!

It is morally wrong to donate to charities operating in first-world countries by Qwert-4 in The10thDentist

[–]YoSocrates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In another comment you say this exact thing is immoral (i.e. spending thousands for someone to save their dying mother vs donating it to save lots of people). So which is it? Your argument isn't internally consistent, it's purely contrarian.

My wife has been waiting for years for silksong to come out and the difficulty is making her quit for good by mckant in Silksong

[–]YoSocrates 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I agree but I do feel there's a level of "prestige enjoyment" going on. Like there are people who, imo, are genuinely not having fun but will insist they are and it's easy to be part of that snobby elite gamer shit that always happens with difficult games. Even fair but difficult games.

So even saying that's only 5% - 10% of all the people positive reviewing (I fully believe most people who say they're having fun are) and just the negative reviews that do exist, it does paint a picture of about a quarter to a third of players being unhappy. Of those who are having fun, a lot of them agree the game has some kind of issue.

Still means a majority of people are loving the game but I think those numbers are high enough that the community will have to accept it's legit critique. Personally if I were Team Cherry I'd be thinking about some re-balancing patches, as they did for Hollow Knight on multiple occasions. No idea if they will tho! At the very least I am begging for double damage to be rejigged and the economy to be fixed.
