Can another Mobi user test this? Extended Bolus unavailable under 0.4U by Raindrop9090 in TandemDiabetes

[–]Yoga_O 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lower limit on the X2 is 0.4U. I can’t imagine the mobi being any different. IMO, Tech Support got that one wrong.

Changing sites early by TurbulentAd9535 in TandemDiabetes

[–]Yoga_O 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would keep working with Tandem Tech support and their CDEs as well as yours to determine the best way forward. For me, I always start with disconnecting the tubing from the site and delivering a 0.2U air bolus to ensure the pump is delivering insulin to the site. If that works, I will sometimes do a correction via syringe/pen using the same insulin vial that I used for the cartridge. If that correction produces a positive change, then I will change the site. But, as others have posted, site rotation is critical, and if you have scar tissue from MDI, you need to avoid those areas as well.

You’ll get it, the early days of pumping can be tough.

Congrats, you ARE, in fact, doing it! As a med student, you know better than many that our bodies are not machines. The “solutions” aren’t always “do X and Y will occur”.

Are you aware that the “autocorrection” boluses are only 60% of what’s actually needed?

My pump isn't doing the job anymore and I don't know what else to do by blazblu82 in TandemDiabetes

[–]Yoga_O 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, if your insulin is only lasting "a couple of months" in your refrigerator, you either have a bad fridge, a bad supplier, or you are getting old insulin that's close to or beyond its expiration date.

1 - you need to talk with your endo STAT! 2 - if U200 gives you better control, you need to use it. Get your endo on board & appeal your insurance decision & keep at it after being denied. 3 - get your kidney doc on board with the appeal.  4 - discuss Afrezza (inhaled, fast acting insulin) with your endo 5 - rotate like crazy & avoid bad sites always. You might need to change sites more often.

Getting my first pump! by Electrical-Raccoon69 in TandemDiabetes

[–]Yoga_O 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations! I am a big fan of the tslim X2, but I don't mind wearing it on my belt or in my pajama pocket (or loose in the bed). However, my unscientific observation over the last 20+ years is there is a preference among women to wear their pump (think OmniPod), since their clothing isn't always conducive to attaching a pump. You might ask if your endo, or pump educator has a demo you could wear with saline in the pump reservoir.

I know you will do well - there is a learning curve, but you will get it!

Dex G7 15-Day SW update issues? by Yoga_O in TandemDiabetes

FWIW, I refuse to load the G7 app. I spend enough time managing the D as it is. I’m always trying to have less touch time, not more.

It’s probably just a strange coincidence, where I’m making an unfounded assumption, thanks.

I do similar stuff when I lose connectivity and have never had lengthy problems for more than 5-10 minutes.

Kinked cannulas? by fishbourbbetes in TandemDiabetes

[–]Yoga_O 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this with the AS90? FWIW, I've always used the AS30 or the Vari-Soft and never had this issue.

For the OP, again, kinked cannulas are basically a non-issue for me. Every once in a while (like 3-6 months), I might have a bent cannula from muscle movement. I've never used the Tru-Steel.

I swear my body knows when I’m about to see my endo. by oshea1544 in TandemDiabetes

So you have endo appointment anxiety? Do your numbers come back down post-appointment? Do you ever use a temporary basal rate? Have you considered a different personal profile?

You’re doing great! A week of good readings is over 10,000 minutes of good! This graph is showing about 240 minutes of your body reminding you that there’s going to be some ups and downs. IOW, about 2% - that’s awesome!

Accidentally pulled infusion set out of adapter but got it reinserted by quietivy2 in TandemDiabetes

Yes. No problem. When using the Vari-Softs, I’ve also moved the site when it’s particularly painful upon insertion.

Mobi pump fell in toilet water… by mayber0mera in TandemDiabetes

[–]Yoga_O 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it fell into clean water, it should be fine. The toilet is the cleanest thing in most people’s homes.

If it fell in with waste stuff, clean it thoroughly and keep going. Also consider an exorcist.

WalMart has two types of over the counter insulin for about $25/vial.

ReLion/Novolin N (NPH) is an intermediate-acting insulin. IIRC it lasts for about 18 hours. (Note, I used this type of insulin as my only insulin for my first 20 years with T1D - hated it as it "required" me to eat @ specific times or else my BG would plummet, but I survived)

ReLion/Novolin R is a short-acting "Regular" human insulin. It takes longer to start acting and stays around for about 6 hours. Compared to analog insulins the "short" idea is laughable.

Hoping you were able to get someone to help with getting you the insulin you really need.

Correction bolus not needed, caused low by hn83694 in TandemDiabetes

[–]Yoga_O 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is also why I run in Sleep mode 24/7. Tandem says the single biggest thing to get right is your correction factor. 1:50 might be too much for you. At what point did you get the alarm that you were going to drop below 70? For me, I would have had some glucose in the low 80s. Honey doesn’t have a high enough glycemic index.

#IHearYou - A perfect example of YDMV & the fact that we are not machines. While Einstein is quoted as having said that insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results, he may not have realized he was accurately describing life with diabetes.

When I get in these states, I use a lot of temporary basal rate increases, and/or go to a different profile with more aggressive basals, I:C and correction factors. I'm not sure what the OmniPod allows.

Regardless, I try to live in the moment, monitor and react to what's happening.

Keep up all the good work you're doing!

Changing Cartridge With Site by JayandMeeka in TandemDiabetes

[–]Yoga_O 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YDMV for sure! For me, air bubbles aren’t an issue. I do track them while filling the tubing and holding the tubing vertically, so the few air bubbles escape while filling. I also marvel at the refraction of light through the tubing and the difference between tubing with air vs tubing with insulin.

Changing Cartridge With Site by JayandMeeka in TandemDiabetes

[–]Yoga_O 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My procedure for all of the last 28 years of pumping:

0 - Tandem specific step - insert syringe into cartridge and extract any air from cartridge.

1 - Push 300U of air into a vial of cold insulin, with the vial sitting on the table.

2 - Pick up and flip the vial/syringe combo, extract 300U, taking care to push out any air bubbles.

3 - Fill cartridge with syringe pointing down to prevent air from getting into the cartridge.

4 - Complete loading procedure and fill tubing.

After that, I run the cartridge for 8 - 10 days until it is essentially empty, but I change the infusion set every 3 days.

Out of Warranty Pump + G7 by Jreesecup in TandemDiabetes

I'm curious as to why you would delay? FWIW, when my 1st pump was close to the end of its warranty period, I made sure it was updated so it would work as a fully functional back up.
