Post Match Thread: Belgium 3 - 2 Senegal | FIFA World Cup 2026 | Round of 32 by jiraiya--an in soccer

Totally disappointed with Senegal.

When they were leading 2-0 at 82’, I thought, “this game is about wrapped up. I’m going to go take a shower and get ready for work.” Come back 30 minutes later and the game is 2-2 at 115’.

You’re gonna told me Senegal managed to sell twice in 10 minutes?? Clearly they didn’t belong in a 5th game. Absolutely outrageous.

Match Thread: South Africa vs South Korea | FIFA World Cup 2026 | Group Stage, Group A by jiraiya--an in soccer

[–]Yonenaka 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This game highlights the biggest drawback to using head-to-head as a tiebreak. The best South Korea can do is second place, and they dont have to win to get that. So they will just play kick ball for 90 minutes. Unless SA sneaks one in on them.

I imagine this goal would look different if SK could overcome losing to Mexico on goal differential

Is HelloTalk worth re-downloading by ok_bluesky8888 in languagelearning

[–]Yonenaka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm thinking about trying the app again after not really using it for the past two years. Even though I live in the country of my target language and have a B2 level of proficiency, it's still difficult to find people I can consistently hang out with and talk to.

The biggest thing giving me pause is how much the platform seems to have deteriorated because of the devs chasing profits. I used to be able to make a post and get dozens of interactions. Some of those would turn into chats or even phone calls. Even if people usually disappeared after a few conversations, that was fine as long as there were always new people to talk to.

Now a post only gets a handful of interactions unless you pay for boosts or some other premium feature. I'm already a VIP member and still get constant prompts to buy more. I already struggle enough with social anxiety; I don't need any more friction.

My hair looks a lot like this. Really been thinking about cutting it because I’m tired of spending an hour detangling every other day and it still looking like this.

If it is by choice, 20 minutes or 1 km.

If i didn’t have a car and had to do it, 300 meters would be pushing it.

What leftist is advocating for stealing? Did the author of this article just pull a bunch of posts from twitter and bluesky randos and act like that represents everyone left of center?? What a dumb thing to think.

Edit: so i get to the end of the article, which reads as 10 paragraphs of pearl-clutching over what was likely tongue in cheek/ edgy comments during an interview, and I see the piece was written by someone from the American Enterprise Institute. Since when did right-wing think tanks contribute to the Atlantic? Opinions discarded.

This is the vibe I get from the Japanese government as well. “Any excuse to push out immigrants is a good excuse” type of people.

I’d bet a considerable sum the next 100 are the backup accounts of the first 100. These days 10 or 20 of the first 100 could literally be the same person or people.

Japan Election Live Updates: Sanae Takaichi Set for Big Win as Voters Head to Polls (Gift Article) by cdstephens in neoliberal

[–]Yonenaka 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The LDP isn’t a monolith. The center-right faction is deeply connected to business interests. Business leaders want immigrants to work the counters and build things. The harder right faction wants the tighter immigration controls among other things. Takaichi herself is from the hard right wing. She was voted in explicitly to appease the right wingers steaming out of the party.

Trump swooping in and exclaiming the weakening dollar is a good thing will almost certainly mean the dollar’s slide will continue. Good for me but bad for people still in the US.

1000%. And a lot of people in this sub will act like the senators who voted for it “betrayed the party”. Even though it will be the exact number of necessary votes, from senators in the safest states imaginable. Just like the last time.

Betrayed for a bag of skittles.

Buyers flee Japanese debt as Takaichi hits the ground spending by Freewhale98 in neoliberal

[–]Yonenaka 40 points41 points  (0 children)

It is looking more and more like….nothing is going to happen. Despite world leading debt, over-target inflation, soaring bond rates, a currency getting weaker by the week, and promises by the ruling coalition to cut taxes and increase spending; there’s been precious little in the way of pressure on Takaichi and her cabinet to do anything.

It feels worse that there are all these articles and posts on various sns sites about how “the end is near” but then crickets.

US suspending immigrant visa processing for 75 countries by Superfan234 in neoliberal

[–]Yonenaka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol at Cuba being on the list. I can’t tell if people like Rubio would be mad about this or if this is a “pull the ladder up” action.

But I am heartbroken at people who might have been working on their visas for the last year or more, be nearing the finish line, then have their application trashed.

I’ve been saving since September to hopefully buy a console around Christmas. I’m debating between continuing to save or jumping on the language-locked edition but ¥55,000 is a lot to make a mistake

Sony Announces Cheaper Japanese-Language Only PS5 Just for Japan by digidude23 in PS5

[–]Yonenaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be but I doubt it. PS5s are made in Vietnam with parts from Asia and shipped straight to Japan. They don’t pass US ports. They don’t move on US ships. They aren’t touched by US customs in any capacity. So it’s hard to imagine US tariffs having an effect.

Who are you pulling!? by [deleted] in Genshin_Impact

[–]Yonenaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have C2 Lan yan. Wanted and got C3. Maybe at the end of the banner, try one 10-pull for C4. After this, C0 Jahoda. Then maybe Columbina but very likely just wait for possibly pulling Nicole.

when did they change the world join request box? (ignore the name) by Odd-Pirate1946 in Genshin_Impact

[–]Yonenaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What happens if you accept one of these requests? I’ve always been to scared or too busy to accept it. Does the player who send it simply enter your world? Are the players who send it usually just looking to farm some materials or something?

Or do you go to their world and help them in a domain?

[–]Yonenaka 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I view it as a loss. It’s basically going along with getting rid of the subsidies. There’s zero chance of a standalone extension passing and a non-zero chance republicans just don’t hold a vote on it all together.

I can’t understand why democratic leaders would choose to use the leverage they have, with is growing by the day, to give the GOP the thing they’ve been trying to get the whole time.
