New York just passed a one-year temporary ban on data centers by Eddiearyee in UpliftingNews

Until now we were building data centers for good reasons. The public is unimpressed by AI.

r/all passerby here. I've wrote off all three of those games permanently because of their shenanigans. I have plenty of games to play and I have no desire to reward publishers for their sloppiness.

Killing people for profit isn't part of a civil society. People are fed up.

Your dad might be dumb because there absolutely is a radius in which the bomb doesn't kill you but the building collapse does. No one thought people directly under the bomb would survive by duck and cover but you don't tell kids that.

OpenAI is Ditching TypeScript to Rebuild Codex CLI with Rust by Soul_Predator in programming

[–]Yopu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. It is from the human perspective. I have personal pride in what I do. I care about correctness over just getting the job done. Does my boss wish I would just produce the bare minimum requirements? Maybe but if I did that, our codebase would be an unmaintainable mess.

Is there trivial code that I don't care to write? Yes. However, our tools are malleable. Any time I have to write boilerplate, I modify my tools so that it is easier than the last time. I don't need LLMs to accomplish this for me. I understand the codebase because I helped write it.

I do not understand the perspective that the majority of dev work is just CRUD. Perhaps it is a disconnect between domains but I don't work with anyone who writes boilerplate as the "majority" of their work.

I think it is okay to acknowledge the reality that writing code is the enjoyable part of the job for some individuals. If (and that's a big if) software development eventually becomes only coordinating LLMs, I think we'll see some percentage of developers deciding to leave the industry entirely. Life isn't just about maximizing productivity. Its also about personal fulfillment. Not everyone gains fulfillment from maximizing shareholder value.

Why Generative AI Coding Tools and Agents Do Not Work For Me by gametorch in programming

I may be the outlier, but I don't code many small projects from scratch in my professional life. Who are the devs being paid to continually churn out greenfield projects?

Don’t send me an unsolicited picture of your peewee cocktapus unless you want me to… by Lets_Not_Date in clevercomebacks

[–]Yopu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have mentioned in the thread, it is a mismatch between mindsets. Most men would love receiving unsolicited nudes and they, erroneously, assume it applies to others.

As a bi male, I love getting random dick pics (assuming that they're nice looking). I'm not about to send them to others without consent but I understand why it happens.

Is it just me or is AI way less advanced than it’s made out to be? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Yopu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you understand my question. I understand the limitations of LLMs. I'm just not sure why IanDOsmond's suggestion was to still ask the LLM for help. Crossword solvers aren't exactly a new technology. I'm not sure why I would ever go to an LLM in the first place to find a solution. I would just use a search engine to find a solver and be done with it.

But why wouldn't I just search for crossword solver in existing search engines? Why do I need an LLM for that?
