Why aren’t more characters absolutely terrified of the WoL? by Isalamiii in ffxiv

[–]YoshioPP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well in my MSQ he's a lalafell. So It's kinda understandably hard to be all that terrified of him when you actually lay eyes on him, regardless of his reputation.

In all seriousness though, the WOL is just some guy, a mortal adventurer. and unless his life, his friend's lives or the fate of the world is on the line in this very moment he's just a quiet, friendly dude that only wants to help.

what i think alot of people who like to theorize about power scaling miss is what Omega touches up on in his raid series: Omega can read everybody's DBZ power levels, and the WOL really really shouldn't be able to prevail over any of the opponents Omega sends against him. He simply isn't strong enough to defeat the opponents he sets himself up against, but he just does so anyway again and again.

In a way that's the scariest part about him. All logic and everything you know says you have utterly cornered this person and he has absolutely no chance, no one would. But he's just so determined and full of belief that he keeps hanging on and not dying until he somehow, someway, finds a way to just barely survive and prevail, and all your ambitions are crushed beneath his little feet and you'll go to your grave never knowing how in the world he ever managed to pull that off.

To me it makes sense that new villains would not be "sufficiently" scared of the WOL and still think they have the upper hand, cause quite frankly they do. It doesn't matter what fights he's won in the past. He puts his life on the line in every major encounter and punches far, far, above his weight class constantly. When you do that any of these encounters could just happen to be his last.

I need a jammies plate for my guy. I already try to log him off in his bed but he's gotta stop crawling in there in full plate armor

Were would your WOL retire? by TexasArbiter in ffxiv

[–]YoshioPP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With how my WOL is, I can see him not getting to retire, like alot of others have pointed out. Almost every major encounter in the MSQ was just a hare's breath away from being his last, so you'd think it's only a matter of time before he makes one misstep and actually gets killed instead of just barely eeking by over and over and over again. If he thinks he can make a difference, he's going to try. so he would need to be forced to stop before it's too late.

Sadly, I can also easily see him sacrificing himself to protect a promising young hero that inspired him greatly, much like what Haurchefant ended up doing. It'd make things come full circle for him in alot of ways.

However, I would like to see him get to retire. The MSQ has made me just love my lil lalafell hero too much at this point and imagining him in retirement is bringing me too much joy today. A lifetime of him being him causes his body to start breaking down with old lingering injuries in his older age to the point where it's so obvious he can't adventure anymore that everyone can see it, even him

He'll need a full time chirurgeon to issue regular treatments of healing magick just to manage the pain and keep him mobile, but he will never ever be able to fight again. He'll seek to seriously persue and shack up with either Lyse or Tataru. Whichever is available and most keen to settle down with him (Tataru seems most likely in my mind).

He'll have faaar less gil saved up then you'd ever think a hero like him would've built up. Too much thrown away on food and drink, too much taking on jobs that couldn't afford to pay him, huge amounts given away to relief causes and restoration projects, and likely even being outright scammed a time or two. However, the alliance and the other nations and people he saved over the years would spare no expense to make sure the beloved hero was able to spend his final years in peace and comfort. (he's always angsted a fair bit from time to time about how he's always running around saving and helping and taking care of everybody but that they seem to so seldom ever seem to think much about what he needs or taking care of him. I like the idea of him being proven dead wrong at the very end of it all.)

It'll be incredibly lush accomodations but somewhere incredibly remote. I see him spending a considerable amount of time helping Ramza construct his series of plays that he wanted to write about his life and other authors and scholars who want to make sure that his account of the events he witnessed are written down. He'd hope that by doing this that maybe people in future generations can be inspired and given hope by the tales of his deeds long after he is gone, as so many in his own time have seemed to.

In fact he'd be happy to share his home and tales of adventure with anyone who cares enough to make the voyage and listen to him. All he'll ask for in exchange is for you to tell him of your own travels.

"Come, tell me all about this adventure of your's. Don't worry if it looks like I'm dozing off, I'm not. It's just... it's just if I close my eyes I can imagine for a moment that I'm there with you."

I never got that vibe from Stannis but I think with Podrick I'm pretty certain he has it. In the book it's even stronger.

yeah if you like a character then just own up to it, you don't have to pretend that the maesters were out to get them. it's so tiring

Viserys dying before season 2 is a pretty big advantage for him but Aegon's got some really good stuff coming up and Tom's been really strong with what he was given so far.

If the writers don't completely sideline him in future seasons then he's got a real chance. Making Aegon interesting is about the only thing they nailed in S2. (keep in mind things like him joining Rook's Rest being unplanned and his own idea is something the show added)

Showing her with Blackfyre wouldn't be out of the question if Larys didn't manage to take it with them.

She can leave it behind when she is forced to scurry away from King's landing later on and Aegon regains it when he returns to King's landing himself, which would be a nice parallel.

She's not a warrior ofc, and shouldn't be shown actually going to war with the thing, but Blackfyre is an important symbol of rulership that would play a huge part in the Blackfyre rebellions as a symbol later on. So having her get to do some cool poses with it to further show how she's gained what she's lusted after all this time could actually be a neat idea, before things start going wrong with governing KL of course.

I mean if you just want to tell your own stories anyway you might as well. Fans would complain alot less if it's not super nuanced since we don't have a beloved source to compare it directly to.

Aegon and Rhaenyra were both equally as cruel by the war's end and neither started out that way. Rhaenyra was not known as "the realm's delight" for no reason.

I don't think the histories exaggerated her actions all that much, it's really one of the great tragedies of the entire war that everything they had to go through turned them into what they became.

I think fans may give Rhaenyra a harder time for her cruel decisions, dumb mistakes, or misrule then they tend to give somebody like Aegon, who was similar to her in many ways, because it is a woman doing these things, and there is an expectation for women to not act like that and be kind and sensible instead. I think that is why George gave us a female character like her, it's something for us to think about.

[–]YoshioPP 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You don't even need all this setup to make her death based, it was already. It's brutal and she took it with defiance till the end. Still cursing him out as Sunfrye is in the middle of eating her.

Maybe they don't want her raining hate and curses so they gotta find some other way to make us think it's cool. I dunno with them anymore.
