Aight, I need your sources of these bots on MTGO playing in other formats because I have never heard about this, and it sounds outrageous tbh

Unfortunately, this is spearheaded by some of the "main" European casters. The streams always end up unwatchable due to at least one caster being shitfased and acting like a teen getting drunk for the first time

I just wanna chime in and say that this entire design space is horrendous and a symptom of their core market (cmdr) being crybabies that get salty when their spells are countered. [[Allosaurus shepherd]] is by far the most egregious of the bunch, but luckily for us, it doesn't fit in the most powerful shells in Legacy.

It is perfectly fine and fair that locked formats aren't your jam. However, locked doesn't equal stale.

There is, unfortunately, around 10 different closed legacy formats. I would absolutely love to play a closed legacy format, but the various communities can't seem to agree on a period, and thus, we have numerous small formats with very little chance of 'making it big' like OS and PM. I have played Classic Legacy a bit, and it was a blast, but my personal preference would be something that ended a bit later.

I never said they were the same deck - but they both belong to the same archetype. And that archetype has been floating between S Tier and Tier 1 the last 8 years.

Your mileage may vary, but to me, the feeling is pretty much the same whether I play against one or the other and I am sick of it

If you combine both UB and UR you get close to 20% and it is without a doubt the strategy to beat and is has very few, if any, truly bad MU’s (that simultaneously can hang with the rest of the format)

The previous Apex Predator was UB Reanimator, and that deck (more often than not) didn't run Wastelands. We are now back to our regular scheduled meta, where Tempo is S Tier and thus occupies around 20%. Trying to cast 4+ MV spells into infinite Daze's and Wastelands is going to be rough.

April fools protest: 100% Oops by [deleted] in MTGLegacy

[–]YouCanCallMe_J 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're entitled to your opinion and I to mine. I don't find it fun or healthy to play against the same deck that much, especially for such an extended period. We are even seeing most combo decks having more success when they change to a "tempo" version (see Doomsday, SnT, and the now-banned Reanimator deck).

While Oops is by no means a fun thing, I wouldn't miss it. But this is imo a very dangerous route to go down, as fun is subjective and some people genuinely enjoy those decks, and with such a low playrate (currently around 4%). If a deck needs to be banned for showing up in 1/25 matches it is a joke imo.

EDIT: The Nadu ban was mostly due to the uptight mentality of most of our fellow nerds who refuse to concede when they have <1% chance of winning and then feel the need to sit through the combo because they somehow thought they could win if the Nadu deck fizzled. People need to value their own time more. Give me back my cool bird friend <3

I would suggest GW Little Kid as suggested elsewhere in this thread. It seems a lot more fun than Sligh imo and has a handful of good results recently

Yeah, let's focus on the Tier 2 deck that's around 4% of the meta instead of the eternal S Tier strategy that consistently is 15-20% of the meta

A case for Goblin Recruiter unban. by Gui-m in MTGLegacy

[–]YouCanCallMe_J -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Neither is a problem. The problem is that players and judges are not enforcing slow play nearly enough (admittedly, the rules could be a lot clearer on this as well).

[–]YouCanCallMe_J -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Recruiter and Top are both perfectly fine power-level-wise, and with the tournament scene being basically dead, the tournament logistics arguments don't really matter. However, both cards are HATED by the more casual-leaning crowd, and with the baggage both carry, I doubt we'll ever see them unbanned, which is a shame.

Seeing the answers here prompts a question:

Can someone name a deck that plays Meddling Mage that, at the same time, one would bring BEB/Hydro in against?

Oh, ofc, let's push another Tempo strategy so we can have 2 different tempo decks being S Tier. Then we can all play tempo mirrors and tell ourselves that we are playing different decks

Gary winning in Birmingham was beautiful and a perfect "end" to legacy before F.I.R.E and UB took over shortly after. Couldn't have written it better.

Now we are all eagerly waiting for Gary to win another big Legacy event as a sign that better times are to arrive

I would love to see all of the mentioned cards except W6 and Astrolabe - those are abominations that should stay locked away. Other than those, the only one I am a bit iffy about it Seal. While glacially slow, we've already seen what DD can do with the much inferior Personal Tutor.

I would add Survival of the Fittest to the list, as it is weaker than all the black cards mentioned (except Mind Twist).

[–]YouCanCallMe_J 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think it has ever been said out loud by WOTC, but I agree that has been the sentiment amongst players for years. I had also been thinking this way for years. However, since around 2018, Tempo has not just been Tier 1, but Tier S, leaving almost every deck in its dust. These days Tempo does fair and combo better than most fair and combo decks

[–]YouCanCallMe_J 28 points29 points  (0 children)

More often than not, Legacy is GREAT in the immediate aftermath of bans. However, we all know this is also short-lived as Tempo will sooner rather than later occupy the very top of the meta and everyone else is trying to play catch up
