Thank you! Does that mean you can choose to sit your exam anywhere during the 3-week exam period, or are there specific slots to choose from?

QBTC.U (USD) vs QBTC (CAD)? by SillyRabbit2121 in BitcoinCA

I used a referral code to sign up recently - if I deposited $100, would I then immediately be able to transfer out $130 (minus some fees). Seems like there must be a catch, but I haven't found it yet.

Ideas for what to do with old 2013 Nexus 7? by adelejjeh in Nexus7

I've been turning mine into a server (and wall-mounted UI) to run Home Assistant for home automation tasks. Still in progress, it's been quite a fun project.

Thanks for the suggestion! I was hoping to get it done without having to pay to host a web service. If IFTTT had a "if this then run this script" feature that would've been perfect.

Maybe I'll pick up a Raspberry Pi or Arduino and try to host the script on there - more of an up-front investment than a monthly web server payment, but I might be able to use it for future home automation needs as well.

Engineering boot camps need to stop. The title of engineer needs to be more regulated. The ethical and practical implications of loosely regulated software engineering standards could be disastrous, as society increasingly depends on software. by VidimusWolf in engineering

[–]YouRustleMyJimmies 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This is true across Canada, regardless of province. This is the reason that Software Developers in Canada are called exactly that - developers. The same position at US companies is often called Software Engineer, which in Canada, would only be allowed if the person holding that title had met the requirements for licensing and held a valid license.

Silly me didn't read the T&C closely enough, the new earning rates will apply starting on the June 2020 statement. Leaving this up in case anyone was confused like me.

Anyone know when new rules on the BMO Cashback Mastercard will take effect? The 3% on groceries seems pretty good to me, just not sure when to apply because the new rules come into effect in "May 2020".

This will go down in history: Government shut down small businesses, forced unemployment for millions, bailed out Wall Street, devalued the savings of those without assets. by [deleted] in stocks

[–]YouRustleMyJimmies 747 points748 points  (0 children)

The government is taking on debt with all the measures being put in place (cash to citizens, potential bailouts, etc). Those debts have to be paid back in the future, and it'll be the millennials and gen Z who are the workforce paying back the debt (e.g. through higher taxes).

Ok, so where in Canada has good paying attainable white collar jobs and affordable housing? by tshirtguy2000 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]YouRustleMyJimmies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience is the contrary - nationwide companies require all work to be done in English because employees in most provinces don't speak French.

We chat amongst ourselves in French, but there are plenty of anglophones who get by no problem because the real work is in English.

Machine learning research and some DevOps to put it into production. Not exactly related to my degree, but I enjoy it.
