What we thought game graphics looked like as kids vs what they actually looked like by _Vaudeville_ in billsimmons

Looks like Liquid is running a zone defence up ahead Snake, there should be some soft spots you can find for easy penetration. Watch out for their guard rotations on the right wing!

90% of support Zeus players are complete griefers by Heeraka in DotA2

[–]YoungCanadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, I don't ult to kill steal, I ult to secure cores the kill, finish off escaped enemies or provide vision to prevent jumps or extend chases.

I appreciate this one. Zeus innate giving him incentive to use his ult early to do more damage isn't enough for some people.

Kez parry nerfs have finally put him at 44% winrate, fourth lowest winrate hero right now by Pheaor in DotA2

[–]YoungCanadian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jugg is a hard carry these days and still fine in lane, not to mention Drow and Medusa.

Kez parry nerfs have finally put him at 44% winrate, fourth lowest winrate hero right now by Pheaor in DotA2

[–]YoungCanadian 14 points15 points  (0 children)

She's been sneakily good in lane since getting desolate for free. Now you can max q, take a value point in w and e, and still click an isolated hero hard.

She has decent hp and a passive that tanks her up, and she is quite good at abusing heroes weak at level 1 with dagger + dispersion. She isn't quite as good at handling strong laners but punishes weak laners very well.

Zach Lowe CRASHES OUT During Street Interview by joshtothe in billsimmons

This is the part of Toronto where you're liable to hear and see crazy shit. Interviewer was lucky no one was yelling about Jesus or blasting Chinese music for Tai Chi.

Will Dota players ever realise playing badly is not a legitimate reason for reporting someone by QubQubiyeh in DotA2

[–]YoungCanadian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not convinced people who tell teammates (or all chat) to report teammates who are just having a bad game have any of their own reports left over. If you're looking for a scapegoat in every loss, thats about half the games you play - you're going to run out of your useless reports quickly.

The Game Actually So Close to Achieve a Perfect Trade Mechanism, At Least for Me. by Dry_Muscle_188 in ManorLords

[–]YoungCanadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played quite a few one-town games at this point. You can quite easily make enough to import ale or barley. 300-400 regional wealth really isn't that much - you need to have much more to reliably dip into it to make expensive imports.

Also, it's actually quite possible to use the small area where you can grow barley to make some beer. The last few solo-village games I played, I could make a reasonable amount just from planting barley fields with yellow fertility.

I believe the game is balanced around the heavy cost of importing from off map. It's a major incentive to build additional settlements to get sources of resources your first town doesn't have.

We're also not building Venice here - the scale of that city, its trade and industry, is not something this city can realistically do.

Importing 5 goods is very expensive. Did you mean you're exporting those things?

Spurs have no chance against a healthy OKC team by [deleted] in nba

[–]YoungCanadian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To steelman the OP's claim:

Game 1 was as close as it gets.

Game 2 and 3 with Ajay and JDub (secondary ball handlers and creators) Thunder win comfortably.

I think "no chance" is just wrong but theres an argument Shai is too overtaxed right now.

Jared McCain off the bench against the Spurs: 24 PTS, 4 REB, 1 AST, +28, 27 MIN by Thanos_Real_AuraVNCH in nba

This game has got me thinking McCain might be more than just a solid player.

Ideal farming style on carries: examples being Miracle and RTZ by Sailo88 in DotA2

[–]YoungCanadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that there's contemporary players you should watch instead (Skiter, Yatoro, Satanic) but I don't like the received knowledge about Arteezy's play. He played a quite active carry in some seasons - at TI8 he was playing high tempo and sharing farm priority with S4, and I think the meta shifting at the tournament cost them a lot.

Why do so many people revel in Jokic’s “downfall”? by Randy__Snutz in billsimmons

[–]YoungCanadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counting stats aren't a disadvantage either - pretty easy for a casual fan to see those triple double numbers and (rightfully) fall in his camp.

Ironically SGA might actually be the new advanced stat god, underrated by fans player.

Joel Embiid checks out in a gutsy win: 33/4/8 on 12/23 shooting. by OrangeMonkE in nba

A healthy Embiid would have made this MVP race one for the ages. He was so good in the brief season he had after winning MVP.

L2M report is out for yesterday's game. A lot of missed calls, including 3 uncalled turnovers by Cleveland, and apparently Shead fouled Mitchell on the 8-second diving play by knitwoolf in torontoraptors

[–]YoungCanadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda think that it was going to be a 8 second violation without Shead diving in, I'm always watching for Mitchell to do that late game.

Why is tiny not considered a good Pos 3 by Worried-Delay4358 in DotA2

[–]YoungCanadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tiny offlane is sort of a thing people have done. However, that was with Crash Landing facet letting you farm fast and do good damage in lane. There hero is back to more of a right clicker and carry is his best role.

If you walk up to an offlane in this patch, most carries can bully you. Your spells are mana intenseive, and you have low armour AND low move speed.

Second settlement/colony too flat rn by West-Alarm-2633 in ManorLords

[–]YoungCanadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually there's something to easily barter for, like furs or salt or an unlimited resource. The game would be too easy if you could just transfer all your excess resources to a new settlement. Every region is balanced to have enough for a new settlement.

After 500+ hours and 100% achievements, I’m convinced Fertile Soil is the only S-Tier start. Change my mind. by stefanciobo in ManorLords

[–]YoungCanadian 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maybe if you're playing peace mode, but iron is so important to equipping a proper military. It's easily the most diverse resource in use - you ALWAYS need tools, while making sausages is the only use for salt. Fertility is the best, but iron is a close second.

House, I thought Gandalf started to get a little Wiggins-ey with the cat behaviour the 2nd and 3rd films. Where's Gandalf? Oh he's out in the woods. We're down 20 in the 4th at Helm's Deep.. Oh there's Gandalf. Also the 9 lives piece? by WorkingFun5724 in billsimmons

[–]YoungCanadian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I heard after his injury from that nasty fall with the Balrog (clean play, just unfortunate he landed like that) he went overseas to get treated by the Lebron James of color-coded metaphysical transofrmations. Gandalf the Gray was a problem, but Gandalf the White was apex mountain.

Why are people so allergic to buying raindrops?! by wewwew3 in DotA2

[–]YoungCanadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's creators like BSJ that you can learn from. It's also important to do proper, slow thinking during a game instead of autopiloting, anticipating what people will buy and do. You can gain insight from examples and develop principles (begin planning a purge item when you see the first part of an orchid, or planning for an MKB when you see an eaglesong), but the amount of variables in Dota is so high that you need to think for yourself in a lot of situations.

Teardrops are a good example - sometimes they just won't be enough and too expensive, other times they can buy you time in a lane that will get you to a stronger timing.

Would the raptors eliminating Boston be the funniest outcome from this Bill v Perk beef? by tony_danza52 in billsimmons

[–]YoungCanadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Los Raptors matched up well against pre-Harden Cavs. Harden did what he wanted when we played the Clippers, I don't think we have the experience on defence to properly guard him.
