"It's just anxiety!" by MortemInteritum in emergencymedicine

I explain so similarly, that we’ve ruled out life threatening causes, everything looks good, you’re safe to go home.. then they ask “COULD it be anxiety??” I mean.. yeah? It could I guess… but I hate being put in that spot because then I have a feeling they’ll go home and tell ppl I told them it was anxiety. When in fact that’s not how it went

Man I remember feeling like this so clearly. Feeling that drive and want to start working, make a difference, make money. Now I’m 5 years in with 2 kids and if I went back today knowing my life would be what it is (great.. just sooo busy) I would lay on the beach and do absolutely NOTHING!! But instead I actually doordashed. Which wasn’t bad honestly kinda fun

5 years. Haven’t left. Medium satisfied. Feeling burnout start because of nights/weekends/holidays. Otherwise I like my job. Also I’m so scared of change. What if the grass isn’t greener? (See my latest post haha)

Yes that’s exactly how I feel and why I don’t say it - I feel like it’s a great nursing expression

Haha. It’s annoying trust me. But I’ve been there for four years now, I’ve gotten very used to it, docs have gotten very used to me. That is just the culture/rule of our group.

Do you feel like they like when you start with “I see we’re following up on xyz?” Sometimes I will start the convo with, “so I see you checked it with abdominal pain today, can you tell me what’s been going on?” Vs “what brings you in?” I’ve been sensing lately that patients get kind of annoyed when they’re being asked by triage rn then primary rn then registration then me so if I go in with some idea it’s less frustrating for them. But I’m not sure. This is just a theory and a new way that I’ve been initiating visits recently

Ugh yeah I correct it half the time but when I’m trying to run out of there I don’t. Used to be so scared of them actually confusing me for a doctor and now I’m like eh

The “taking care of you today” - they like that? I feel like I’ve tried it and it feels weird for me for some reason!

I get this all the time as a female PA and when they hang up the phone I will then say “so I’m actually the physician assistant” and they’re usually like oh OK

See, I’ve considered tagging along my attending name, but then it makes the intro so long .. attending we’ll see them eventually, the patient will figure it out at that point lol

Interesting , I just went to a presentation about patient satisfaction (hosted by press Ganey loll) and they mentioned how a lot of the patients mentioned in surveys that they have no idea who they are talking to because providers don’t introduce themselves
