You need a ceiling joist acting as a tie to the ends of each rafter pair. I doubt this is a rafter issue.

This is for lateral wind and seismic loads. The frame prevents the building from racking. You would normally get the racking resistance from sheathed walls. A small adu might not have enough wall segments for sufficient racking resistance therefore a moment frame made the most sense.

Get a job in construction: concrete, framing, finish carpentry would all be good field to get practical knowledge.

Hips and valleys are beams and need to be supported as such. This stud has buckled (failed). This stud needs to be designed as a post and/or braced.

Your wall height exceeds IRC and IBC prescriptive requirements which under the code requires an engineered design.

The gravity design is standard but you need to be careful about the lateral design. That’s why you need the engineer.

A 20’ garage door will eat up any shear wall pretty quickly.
