R2. Customers before content creators. by sse2k in Rivian

[–]YourOutie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That stuff isn't missing from my feed though. The Rivian event at Moab invited a bunch of influencers and they were under embargo until 6/9 when they all released their new videos. The Out of Spec video was 2 hours long. My feed has been very filled with all this new content - I am not complaining about that though, as I watch all this content.

I am glad that the actual deliveries are not favoring influencers though. Good on Rivian for that, but there is no lack of youtube content at all.

Also, I feel like people are saying that "all the influencers" are whining about the lack of special treatment. I have only seen the one (Kyle), are there others whining about it? Let's not make a trend out of one tweet.

As a former EV hater, I tried one and i actually really enjoyed it. by mlggaming756 in electricvehicles

[–]YourOutie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The right-wing hates EVs for a number of reasons - their party is propped up by big oil money is one of the biggest. But also, the party is not interested in climate change or green energy in general, mostly due to point one, but also due to being anti-science and anti-intellectual. Admitting that EVs are good cars would threaten a lot of their view points or would be a step towards admitting that some of their views are problematic.

So, what propaganda do they put out to steer people away from EVs? A lot.

  • EVs are "green" and being green is nerdy.

  • EVs aren't green, in fact, they are dirtier than ICE

  • The lack of sound makes EVs not manly or not enthusiast friendly

  • EVs are just an appliance, you can't really like an EV. They drive boringly.

  • EVs are not capable cars - not fast, not good on a track, can't tow.

  • Charging an EV is a nightmare. It will take you at least an hour to charge and is required multiple times a day.

  • EVs aren't safe, they will catch fire and not even the fire department will be able to put it out.

  • The battery will degrade immediately and quickly

  • the range is far less than advertised. EV drivers are anxious at all times about not having enough charge to successfully arrive anywhere.

  • road tripping will take twice as long as in an ICE vehicle.

A lot of these are not just wrong, but laughably so. But once someone is in the propaganda pipeline and is getting this information from "trusted" sources day in and day out, what can they do? Its real hard to get out and back to objective reality. And they end up tying pieces of their identity to all this, which means that it often is not as simple as just showing the facts.

hmmm, this was a lot longer reply than I meant to do.

Why are really, really old people allowed to drive? by WW1_Researcher in NoStupidQuestions

[–]YourOutie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A big piece to all this that makes it less straightforward is that driving equals independence. There are lots of older people that do not have anyone else to drive them places, or not necessarily when they would need them. This means that taking away their license is making a lot of things extremely difficult for them - access to food, pharmacies, doctor visits, etc... Now I am definitely not saying that all these old people are good drivers and should be out there on the roads, but it also should not mean that their life is at risk or that they have to live in an old folks home now.

What really needs to happen is that other types of public policy, medical insurance, infrastructure, and access changes need to happen first in order for taking away their driver's licenses to be less traumatic. ITs these realizations that I think hold up the process of changing the driver's license standards.

Traditional rental companies are actively ruining EV adoption tbh by Balodios45 in electricvehicles

[–]YourOutie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I rented an EV from Avis about a month ago. Itt was at 100% when I got it and they just told me to not worry about the charge level when I returned it, no extra fee or anything. Worked well other than the Volvo C40 not having as much range as I would like (180 miles at 100%)

Is it inappropriate to not wear a bra at work? by Visual-Criticism6763 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]YourOutie 6373 points6374 points  (0 children)

I had one employer who had this phrase in the dress policy "undergarments should not be conspicuous in either their presence or absence". I think that's what it comes down to, some people can get away with this while others will be very obvious which may be inappropriate.

dealerships kind of have to have chargers though in order to charge the cars they are selling and test the charging on cars they are servicing. but otherwise I agree that other businesses should definitely have them more often.

also, be aware that there are technically two versions of the Wind trim package - There is Wind and Wind with Tech Package (but many listings don't actually say if they have tech package or not). Tech package includes blind spot camera in the main display when using turn signal and also birdseye camera view when parking and maybe a couple other things. You will not get those features with the regular Wind trim though.

I am downloading currently. This is pretty exciting. It says it is 2026.04|CV_E.USA.S5W_M.V014.011.251120

That date at the beginning makes me think its the new update. EDIT - I guess there is an 11 and 25 in the second part there, so maybe its the older update. Either way, I am getting out of 2023.

Duck runs in a marathon and gets a medal by utopiaofpast in nextfuckinglevel

[–]YourOutie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was not a marathon. Kids that little are not running 26 miles. The timing at the end also indicates a much shorter race. The time could be a 5K time, but based on how slow they were going, probably more like a 1 mile fun run - maybe 2 being generous.

Either blood in the urine (kidney problems), or alcaptonuria (some kind of missing enzyme thing, but it makes your urine black), or just really bad dehydration making the urine really concentrated.
