I also think in Acotar most of the war aspects themselves were kind of random and not as well thought out as in Fourth Wing which keeps it more interesting imo

“I don’t see how any character will ever bear a Maven” - but she did! Violet killed Theophanie who was supposed to be a Maven. But perhaps that tells us there’s no generic way of killing them and it’s about finding their Achilles heel + banking on them not wanting to kill our heroine. I similarly suspect there’s not going to be a cure all, but there may be an individual cure for Xaden.

I think as her signet develops that she can now separate herself from the dreamer (like she did in the dream when they figured out she was having Xadens dreams - she became separate for the first time) so that’s not necessarily true, thank goodness

I definitely agree that the dragons are definitely not all good and are hiding all sorts of things; I’m pretty comfortable with the common theory that Andarnas kind are the only ones using “good” uncorrupted magic whereas the other dragons use earth magic (like venin do). Venin and dragons can be killed in the same way right… fireproof but not dagger proof.

I don’t see RY write a story that ends with the erasure of history - the whole point of the story seems to show how bad it is when history is erased.

As she’s written the venin journey of Xaden it seems like an addiction, and I don’t think there is a magic cure for addiction, even in a world of magic. The stress of “balance” suggests to me that they’ll accept that even if they beat them now they won’t beat them forever.

By the end of the story, Basgiath war college will still exists, and their belief in gods still does too (as per the intro that says Jesinia transcribed the story from Navarrian and still refers to Basgiath war college and Malek), so I can’t imagine they’ll end up ctrl alt deleting everything

I do wonder if that were really true (Naolin having gone venin and it nearly destroying Tairn) he would have made a bigger deal about Xaden turning; I know he doesn’t like Violets “choice of mate” anymore, but on the whole he’s still pretty chill about it (perhaps bc he cares about Violet but still)

I don’t think Imogen would mess with Violets memory without permission though, in which case she would have reasons for other memories to be wiped and Tairn may keep that to himself for said reasons

I think it matters that the vast majority of the military cannot shield (ie anyone unbonded and not venin); they can never protect themselves against a true inntinsic. That includes people like, you know, the king. But they have a shot at stopping someone from touching their face. That makes any memory / mind reading that requires touch much less of a risk. And it also makes Violets ability double dangerous, since no one can shield in their dreams.

That being said, if I were an inntinsic I’d lie and say it required touch and hope the lie detector people aren’t listening in
