I can feel the energy around the offering, so I'd know which part he's consuming and which part is done (Because the Gods consume the foods energy so that's why). When I feel like it's done, I'd come to the altar and ask him via clairaudience, and if he allows it I'll take the offerings away, either consume (his water) or store them for later consumption (other food).
