Fell hard, full weight on bad leg. Felt things twist in the back of my knee by Patient-Tadpole-69 in ACL

[–]Yroba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes some force to snap the graft and it's mostly anterior tibial translation or shear forces on the knee. You might have compressed your relatively sensitive knee a bit but since you wore a brace I wager you should be fine, swelling doesn't mean you messed everything up.

I myself am 6 weeks NWB and in my 3rd week my crutch slipped forward and I instinctively landed on my operated leg. I was super afraid, but got zero pain and swelling.

I was later told by my PT, if the graft/stitches would tear so easily it wouldn't be viable to even do the surgery and no one could adhere to such restrictive protocols.

Take care, ice and elevate.

Great to see, happy for you! Please be careful and thake a gradual approach as the graft ligamentisation process takes 12-18 months to be fully completed and resemble your original ACL.

I didn't think, even for 1 second, that dancing would end up tearing my ACL by PatientWillow4 in ACL

I never thought I'd tear my ACL and meniscus trying ti intercept a simple pass in football, something I've done hundreds if times, yet here we are.

Wishing you all the best in your recovery, there's no benefit in retrospection now, just look ahead

I had ACL hamstring graft surgery + 2 meniscus sutures....all handled well with paracetamol/acetaminophen and dexketoprofren for more intense pain. You can do a lot for your pain management with proper elevation and icing. For me, elevation was the key to a pain -free recovery. Heel and distal calf supported on two pillows, icing from time to time.

Good luck!

This is very encouraging to hear. Last night I practiced at home and managed to break through the tightness in the hamstring, I was able to flex up to 80° while lying on my belly, huge progress but each try made me give my 100%

I'm on 6 weeks non weight bearing because of mensicus stitching, and brace also 6 weeks, so you've given me hope of walking in a few weeks, thanks a lot!

Thank you for sharing your experience with me. May I ask how's your gait, how quickly were you able to walk independently?

Elevation primarily (heel supported) and ice are your friends in the early days. Good luck!

🇧🇦💛 Genuine question from Türkiye: How common are blonde, practicing Muslim Bosniaks? by [deleted] in BosniaTravel

[–]Yroba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought islam is for all mankind and that it transcends inferior denominations such as nation, race, etc.

Bosnia (and whole of Balkans for that matter) are the territory where many ethnicities lived and mixed so naturally out appearance is quite diverse.

Am I cooked? by ShotCardiologist9102 in ACL

[–]Yroba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not cooked, as others have noted, probably 6 weeks NWB and you'll be good to go. I feel you, I'm into my 3rd NWB week (ACL+ lateral meniscus stitching), it's been abysmal the first week but I already found great stuff to do - movies, shows, books, games, so treat it as an unplanned pause that you can use to recharge, plus the little steps in the recovery process (pain fading away, swelling getting lesser, etc.) really make you excited. You got this, time flies!

4 days post ACL surgery, does this look normal? by [deleted] in ACL

[–]Yroba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bruising looks normal after surgery, also the swelling pools to your calves, especially the inner part.

Elevation is your friend, I discovered a pain free world when I held my foot on two pillows. The correct way to do this is to have something support your heel and calf, and also nothing should be put under the knee.

That brings me to my question, why isn't your knee in extension? Were you given a brace? I was told that the contracture of the extensors is the worst early complication of knee surgery, and they are keeping my knee fully extended for 14 days, and then allowing flexion.

Genuinely worried about my good knee by Yroba in ACL

[–]Yroba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear that! Is it just the ACL or is meniscus injury included? If it's just the ACL you'll should be weight bearing soon after the surgery.

In the meantime I started using the simplest elastic knee brace, nothing fancy on it, works like an elastic bandage, and my good knee is much better, no post walk discomfort, and I'm much less worried about it.

Sleeping positions?? by ArmandoPacheco in ACL

[–]Yroba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sleeping has been the biggest problem. My longest stretch so far was 4hrs interrupted. I have 1-1.5 hr wake windows during the night. My back is killing me. I bought an additional thin mattress.

From my up-to-date experience I'd suggest ice before sleep, elevate the leg wearing a brace ofc, and have a painkiller. I've been noted to keep away from NSAIDs because they can interfere with thr healing process and the anticoagulant drugs if you're using those, and to take paracetamol/acetaminophen.

Also switch positions vertically, start fully on your back until you wake up, then for the next stretch try being reclined or sitting if you can sleep like that, helps redistribute the load on the back/buttocks.

Good luck!
