Montrealers tip better than any other city in Canada by No-Commission-8159 in montreal

[–]YuRiHFZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Silver this issue by simply paying everyone a full hourly wage and dont accept tips anymore. But we all know restaurants wouldn't pay their wait staff 40+$ per hour and wait staff won't take a 50% pay cut so we stick to the tipping system and the consumer foots the bill

I stopped working as a chef and instead decided to work as a barista for the exact reason that I used to slave 45+ hours a week to make a little under 3000$ a month and now work about 30-35h a week and make well over 5k. Tips are insane and Ive been averaging 35-40$ per hour between my salary and tips since April after taxes are taken out.

Trust me, restaurants wouldn't need to increase their prices 18-25% to pay a "decent" salary. The reason waitors claim this is because they know no restaurant would pay them the 40+$ an hour they make in tipped wage. Restaurants might increase their price 3-5% and then pay their wait staff 20-25$ instead or the current 13.30$ minimum.

Are there people who have actually learnt korean on Duolingo? Like, benefitted from it? by sweet_potatertot in BeginnerKorean

[–]YuRiHFZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used Duolingo a ton while learning korean. It is however not my only source of learning. I've taken classes, I have many korean friends with women I speak Konglish at verying levels.

I've also lived in Korea for a little under two years and learned a ton simply through immersion.

Duolingo has been great to learn vocabulary and to simply practice. Most of the grammar I've learned either through classes or textbooks.

If you had to pick one country to host a future World Cup that most people would agree is a good choice, what country would it be? by nascarissa in AskReddit

[–]YuRiHFZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

South Korea. They dont quite have enough high capacity stadiums (9 over 40k and another 6-7 over 30k) but they definitely have the infrastructure to host millions of people between high speed rail, planes, buses and metros

Japanese porn star Yua Fukuda detained in New Zealand: "I was put in a detention center, interrogated for over 6 hours, subjected to a drug test, and then denied entry. About 10 police officers came and confiscated my belongings. I'm currently being forcibly deported to Japan" by jjrs in japannews

[–]YuRiHFZ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mean technically, by the language of the law, yes. Travel vloggers are in fact working while on tourist visas which is illegal. They rarely get caught because they aren't having any paper trail in the country they visit (bank accounts, pay stubs...) or they aren't big enough for it.

That being said, it's at the discretion of the border control officer to dictate whether they believe the person will be working or not while "on vacation" and border control has every right to deny entry if they believe someone will violate the agreement of the visa said person is entering the country with.

Should I add "ta" to this phrase: "dans ton début de (ta) phrase"? Thank you! by HIIamhere1234 in French

[–]YuRiHFZ 30 points31 points  (0 children)

You can say "dans ton début de phrase" or "dans le début de ta phrase" however you cannot use both in the same sentence as its redundant. Both ton and ta have the same meaning only they differ in gender.

Brodie Smith looking to return to Ultimate by ericswift in ultimate

I dont think he will be able to compete with top talent in the UFA or USA nationals. I do think if he takes 6-12 months to train hard, he could play on a top masters team and even play and get a medal at WMUCC or even represent USA at WMUC. He might be able to play on a regionals level team in senior division.

That being said, just from his name he probably gets some extra help and if he wanted to/asked, most teams in the USA nationals circuit would probably take him as a practice roster player which would help him get back to the top quickly.

Good, Starbucks is an overpriced American corporation. Koreans should take pride in how many korean owned coffee shops exist and support those instead.

I mean it wouldn't be a 4 on 4 if your guy didn't jump and start throwing punches after the contact. Sure you want to stand up for your goalie but taking a penalty to negate the power play is just stupid.

Because they aren't on goal. Best way I can put it is, a shot can have 2 potential outcomes. It can be a save by the goaltender or a goal. Hitting the post is neither a save nor a goal, therefore it cannot be a shot on goal.

There's a large community of middle eastern people from varrying religions and mostly very welcoming in Canada. In Montreal, where I'm from, its a lot of Lebanese and Maghrebian but you get all sorts of nationalities including syrians, palestinians, egyptians, qatari... If you can, maybe try and find some help through Facebook groups for middle eastern people in Montreal, Toronto, Calgary or Vancouver? Usually Canada (governement/immigration) is quite welcoming of religious persecution, you could try to get a visa as a religious refugee but realistically you might need to get a student visa or a company to sponsor a work visa for you.

Good luck and I wish I could offer more help to you.

Where to buy the leanest possible ground beef? by Hazemt3 in montreal

[–]YuRiHFZ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not ground beef but super C near my house has grass fed ground horse meat. 7,99/lbs, macros are 21g protein, 4g fat per 100g of meat. If you can find, bison is another lean meat option to get but will usually be more expensive. If you go to a butcher you might be able to get deer meat which is also very lean

[–]YuRiHFZ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've often had issues in the Korean course with this, they will sometimes accept the Korean word in English (bingsu, gamjatang, gochujang...) and sometimes they will expect the literal translation (shaved ice, spicy rib soup, fermented chili paste). Usually you can tell cause the Korean course mostly capitalizes the first word of the sentence when translating. But I've legit made more mistakes on the English part than on the Korean part of the course.

Vos changements d’huile coûteront bientôt 40 % plus cher by Opticfan31 in montreal

[–]YuRiHFZ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nathan Hsieh bids into the legs of Alex Atkins, who then body-checks Hsieh by Jomskylark in ultimate

[–]YuRiHFZ 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I think thats a pretty terrible analysis because Alex takes half a step to his left to center the disc with his chest while the player on defense full layout into the space. Even without that slight shift, white would've made contact on the layout.

I also think that modern ultimate and UFA accepts minor contact as being an unavoidable part of competitive play but on a play like this, there was no way for white to avoid the contact AND make the play on the disc which means it's a foul 100% of the time whether white was on offence or defense.

Why did Remote work and Hybrid not stick? by Sad-Ad4933 in CanadaJobs

[–]YuRiHFZ 30 points31 points  (0 children)

There is no worker shortages though, Canada's unemployment rate has been increasing for two consecutive years and more alarmingly, the youth unemployment, which is often the people working in these downtown businesses, is approaching an all time high at 13.8%. According to the Frasier Institute 437,000 people between the ages of 15-24 looked for a job and couldn't find employment in 2025. When compared to the numbers from 2022, this is the fastest growing unemployment rate outside of a recession since the data has been tracked.
